IsNot For String Comparison
Oct 12, 2010If Object.Value IsNot "Something" Then Can you do this, or are there certain cases in which it wouldn't work? Wasn't sure if this should only be used for integers and booleans.

.net - Basic String Comparison - Comparing The Vars Gives A False
Aug 5, 2009after slicing and dicing, i got 2 vars with the following values in vb.net:
strTag = "<#<span class=SpellE>vermittler_person_Name</span>>"
tmp = "<#<span class=SpellE>vermittler_person_Name</span>>"
Comparing the vars gives a false:
strTag = tmp ' ==> false
Comparing the values directly right there gives a true:
"<#<span class=SpellE>vermittler_person_Name</span>>" = "<#<span class=SpellE>vermittler_person_Name</span>>" ' ==> true
Both are strings, i tried all kinds of stuff: string.compare, string.equals, also regex etc. etc. everything works perfect with all the other strings with simlilar structure, just not and only not with "vermittler_person_Name" in the middle...

the asterisk-ed line returns an error (obviously) as strId is not of data type String.I also tried using LIKE but again since strId and strPass are not Strings, all I get is an error.
Comparison - 4 String Lists - Compare The Contents Of The Input List - Containing Words
May 31, 2009I have 4 string lists as follows
Dim input_list As New List(Of String) Dim input_POS As New List(Of String) Dim trigger_list As New List(Of String) Dim trigger_POS As New List(Of String)
I want to compare the contents of the input list (containing words (e.g., want, the) etc. to the ones of the trigger list (containign again words) and if a same entry (i.e. word) get the POS for both input word and trigger word from the relevant lists and put them into a property list. For example
input list (want, the, right)trigger list(want, there, wait)input list POS (verb, article, adjective)trigger list POS (verb, pronoun, verb)
Output property list (want:verb, want:verb) (only want is common between input and trigger list). Then I need to conduct a test between the two property items for similarites. If they are exactly the same, the code should output a confirmation "i.e., Yes" into a textbox. If not the code should output a "No" plus the contents of the property list into a textbox.

Aug 22, 2009I am using this code bellow to read each line of a file doing stuff then repeat to the end in a while loop. My problem starts after that since I have to exit this loop then go back to it and start the process all over again 100+ times and I cant go back in since it knows I hit "Nothing" or EOF. Is there a way to do this without opening and closing the record 100+ times??

Code For "IsNot Nothing" In Linq-to-XML?
Apr 24, 2011I deal with a lot of XML for transformations. I typically find that I spend most of my time doing something like this[code]...
I suppose that is okay, but I'm just wondering if there is some better way of handling this where I Dim the element or attribute and then start processing for my transformation, if the element is not there it will just silently and gracefully fail and move on to the next thing in my code.

Feb 3, 2012I have searched a lot on the web about changing file attributes in .net , it takes me a long time to get the final code but it was really good. But after all of my search I didn't know why we use "And" when we compare file attribute like this:

Comparison To A File On A Different Computer On The Same Network
Jan 4, 2012I have a computer that takes in a barcode through a Visual Basic program on one computer and I want to be able to compare that barcode as a String to data on a different computer on the same network by ethernet connection where the data is stored in an Excel 2010 file (.xlsm) in Column A in a workbook called 'Data.xlsm'. Before the data is allowed to be saved or used further in the program on the first computer, I would like for the comparison to happen.
Some more details that you all may or may not need.
Computer 1 (where barcode is scanned): Windows 7, Office 2010
Computer 2 (where data file is stored): Windows XP, Office 2007

Mar 26, 2009When using the Dictionary class when the key and value types are your own custom types, is it possible to specify the property of the key type object to use with the ContainsKey method? Best described with an example:

I could just omit the lines with ContainsKey but I'd prefer to know how it's making the comparison and how to change it if required. I don't want to use an integer containing the ID for the key type because I want to reference the whole object later on again.

Jan 25, 2009i'm building an image library and one of the things i want to do is compare the most common color in a given image to a set of established colors in rgb format the way i'll probably do this is create 3 arrays for the average r,g and b of each given image, and then compare them to my established values for r,g and b that i want to match to so if my first image has the average values of 255, 125 and 5 for r,g and b..what would be the best way to do a nearest match against my pre-established colors? Sep 21, 2010I am working on a program for a customer and am working in VB2010 in VB language. I have two rather large files that contain data. File #1 is over 300,000 lines of data. File #2 is over 100,000 lines. The files are CSV text files. On a User Form, there are two values, "StartTime" and "StopTime". This is the process I am doing:
1. Read both files into ArrayLists
2. Get item #1 of ArrayList #1 (we'll call this "A")
3. Get item #1 of ArrayList #2 (we'll call this "B")

Jul 27, 2009I have a form containing a checkedlistbox, I want to be able to do a simple comparison between the checked status before and after to see if there has been any change. I have a copy of the "before" version of the checkedlist box and I thought I could just compare the two CheckedItems but it always thinks they are different, I could iterate through the entire checkedlistbox but I thought there would be an easier way.
