Is there anyway that i can auto refresh a listview using a timer for every 5 seconds or so?.
View 6 RepliesMy timer pauses (sort of the display portion (label) of the timer indeed pauses, however when the timer is resumed it starts again, but not at the point where it was disabled. As an example. If I pause the timer at 10:00 and wait ten seconds when I hit resume it starts at 09:50, where it should resume at 10:00 or 09:59

I am using a timer with 1 second interval, that calls a function (for example) to download a file. So every one second the following happens in the timer.
label1.text = "File " & fname & " downloaded"
label1.refresh
call processfile(fname)
' only if i use application.doevents label refreshes properly.
Now inspite of using refresh, the label does not refresh properly. For example: for the new text you may see the entire text but if the older one has few extra char then you see that also. in other words you see new text and part of the old text. I am so surprised as to why is this happening. In vb6 when we used to use refresh the label used to refresh properly.
I am using Visual Studio 2010 and have been slowly getting into threading. My current project has a form with a button that in turn starts two threads. The form itself has two labels on it that are used to display the progress of the computations. Each thread has a delegate defined to change the value of the respective label (as the labels are not defined in the thread, but on the form itself). The threads call subs from a separate class. All of the calculations work flawlessly. My problem is that the labels do not visually update. Through use of message boxes at the end of each loop, I know that the label text property is, indeed, being changed, but it is not actually refreshing and updating on screen.
My delegate code is as follows (I grabbed this code off of another forum where people had the same issue - it seemed to work for them, but not for me):
Private Delegate Sub UpdatePMLabelTextDelegate(ByVal s As String)
Private Sub UpdatePMLabelText(ByVal s As String)
' Are we in the same thread as the label itself?

I am working on an application that ties into a SQL database on the back end. Currently the main form contains a series of combo boxes (Graph type, data format, location, and customer), two date pickers, and a button to launch the selections in a new form. Everything works just fine except there are a couple of things I can't seem to accomplish.
Example Data:
[CODE]...........
Case Select (with commented out lines for variations attempted):
[CODE]..........
1) I would like to be able to use some sort of case statement to color the bars in my chart based on value. I have tried approaching this in a couple of different ways but neither of the options seem to work. First, I tried this (the If Not is used because depending on what values are passed to the stored procedure in SQL, different columns will be returned):
[CODE]..........
Only one series is created with this method, so I can see how/why a Select Case would set all bars the same color. I have also tried creating a series for each row in the returned dataset but it results in 22 bars of different colors, for each of the rows (484 bars):
[CODE]..........
So is there any way to modify the second set of code there to only select the value from the "Percent TMHB" cell that corresponds with Row(i), rather than ALL values from the "Percent TMHB" column for EACH Row(i)?
2) Since I am drawing/creating these graphs in a new window, is there any way to also create a new timer on the "newFrm" and have the tick refresh the data? I've struggled with this but I feel like it should be easy. Say someone chooses a "TMHB", "Percentage", "Chicago", "All" (Graph type, data format, location, customer) and launches the graph, which opens in a new window, then they want to do "TMHB", "Percentage", "LA", "All" and have both windows up, refreshing automatically throughout the day. Can I somehow store the SelectCommand.Parameters values in the new form/timer so that it will query the database again every 5 minutes?
Example code for the StoredProcedure and creating the new form:
If combo_GraphType.SelectedItem = "TMHB" Then
Dim newFrm As New Form
Dim newChart As New Chart

I have a for loop condition as below coding for looping to change word on label.text, but as a result, it just only display the last value.
how can I do to display each value for a looping.
i want the result is the label1.text to show 1 then 2, then 3, then 4.......finally is 10.

I have a label called lblMessage. The data of the message is saved in a SQL Server 2005 DB. In my table i have a message ID and then 4 rows with my message ID. Message 1, Message 2, Message 3 and Message 4.I want my lblMessage to go through a loop every time the user refresh his browser, so that when he refresh it once the next message will be Message 2 and so on and so on.How would i do this in VB.NET or C#?
View 2 RepliesI would like to make a timer using a label or something equivalent. What I want to do is to have the label to count the time from a specific function.Lets say i have a button on my form named "btnRun".I would like to have it so when I click button run it will make "Label1" count up until the a certain function stops.I would like it to display Hours, Minutes and seconds.

I want to move a label across the form every X milliseconds. How do I do that? I understand how to use a timer, but don't know how to move the control. Here is my
Private Sub Timer1_Tick(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Timer1.Tick
Label1.Location.X = Label1.Location.X + 10
End Sub
"Expression is a value and therefore cannot be the target of an assignment."
How do Put a timer on a label To Popup like every 20 seconds?
View 7 RepliesI want to say the timer count the time the Process is working so that it Counts always higher on a Label with the Text 00:00:00. So it always go higher by 5ms:
00:00:10
00:00:15
00:00:20
00:00:25
and so on.
i just want to blink the label without using timer. i think its possible if i use looping structure
View 27 RepliesI am having a mental block on how to work out a 15 minute timer that is shown on a label and counts down so that the user can watch it. I can do it just fine in seconds but I need to put it into the format of 15:00 and then have it count down the seconds and the the minutes when ever it drops 60 seconds. I found a few articles on using the dateNow syntax but that seems like it would only be good for adding time not subtracting it. Also I know I can set up a button to start and stop the timer but is it possible to use the space bar as the start/stop button?
View 5 RepliesI'm trying to program a countdown timer that shows the time in a label, with a button to start it, and if the button is pressed again add certain amount of time, for example 1 minute.

View 20 Repliesi have a MDI application with parent and childforms.
i have a global timer in a module that makes a com search and writes the result to a parentform status strip label.
the problem is that the label do not change.
i have tried the following:
1) on timer.elapsed
parentForm.statusstriplabel.text =...
2) to create a delegate and invoke a parent form function
3) to create and raise an event
although all 3 seened to run the label didn't changed.
the timer was created in a different module than the parentform class for many reasons.
one of them is because i want to access the timer.start , timer.stop from all the childforms
when i tried a local timer to paretform worked perfect but i couidnt start and stop it from the childs
how to set a Label's text to say how many times the timer is cycling after it is triggered. For example,
Private Sub Timer1_Tick(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Timer1.Tick
message.To.Add(TextBox1.Text & TextBox2.Text)
[Code]....
I want a Label to tell me how many times this timer sends ONE email, each time, the labels value increases by +1.
I have a timer that basically counts a number up in sequence in a label. On the On Text Change sub for the label I have functions run when the label is at a specific number. Everything works fine, the only problem I have is I have information pulled from an ODBC link to a pervasive database every second, which slows down the program. I have several flash components that run so slowly because of the data update. Now I have tried both using a dataset and coding the query but it is still ver slow and processor intensive, I think its because the Pervasive ODBC link is somewhat slow. Is there a way to have my data pull timer run in the background so that it doesnt effect the performance of the rest of the program?

I have developed a program which continuously draws a circle using a timer. Now every time the circle gets displays it flickers and which is because i have used me.refresh. Is there any other way to avoid this flickering.
Here is my code

Me.sweepAngle += 1
If Me.sweepAngle = 360 Then

In a piece of code I am writing I am trying to change the text of a label in my form based on a timer. I have MANY other labels that are all updating in their own subs and when I try to add any new labels(in any sub) to update it wont. I am using Label.Text = counter where counter is a string that is changing. I have tried refreshing the form, Label.refresh() Label1.Update()....The only thing I think it could be is that the redraw is being held up by other calculations on the cpu. How can I make the label text change and update properly?

View 5 RepliesI'm trying to use the timer (not a Timer object) in a Do... Until loop. I want the loop to put a single variable into a label. When I do this it works and puts the value into the label (lblOxygenReading):
If btnGetOxygen.Text = "Get Oxygen Reading" Then
Select Case True
Case rdoColorWhite.Checked
strCurrentColor = "White"
Case rdoColorRed.Checked
[Code] .....
It goes through the Do loop and the For.. next loop but doesn't change the label. Visual Studio doesn't show any errors when I'm writing the code, but when I run it, it hangs somewhere.
is there a way to show the current time left of the timer interval( in a label or something?)something like a count down for the next interval?
