Saving Dynamic Text Boxes
Jul 29, 2009I am working on a project where I need to create dynamicly created text boxes (which works fine) and then save the values from those text boxes to a txt file.Essentially how the form works is their are a few static text boxes the user fills out and then presses a button to create a row of 7 other text boxes and they click the button for however many rows they need.Again this part work just fine, but its when I get to trying to save the values in those boxes that I run into trouble.I'm fairly new to vb.net and currently I only know how to save the static boxes using the WriteLine function, which unfortunetely doesn't work for the dynamic ones. Dynamic - Changing The Value In A Different Text Boxes With 1 Function Based On Name?
Jan 1, 2012I have done this in Php with a function before. I just don't know how to do it in VB.I have a character sheet creator for a game I am making. What I am wanting to do is write a single function, where in you click on a button and it will pass the text box name (so that it knows which text box to edit), as well as the value inside of the text box (to make sure that the new character stat ceiling is taken into account).

Checking If Dynamic Text Boxes Are Empty/ No Input When Saving?
Aug 8, 2011For example, I clicked the Add Text box button, so it added 3 text boxes in the form (I used Dynamic text box so it can add multiple text box). When I input data to one of those 3 text boxes and then Save button has been clicked. It should checked whether the dynamic text boxes are empty or not. If there are empty text boxes, then saving data to db should not be continued and display a message telling the user that empty field(s) are invalid.
In the code below, it saves the data even if there are empty text boxes and I think because it is in the for loop, it checks the text boxes one by one and repeatedly displays the message box that I coded.

VS 2008 Create The Form With A Button And Two Text Boxes - Move Text Between The Two Boxes

For exercise 1 I have created the form with a button and two text boxes, but cannot work out the code I need to move text between the two boxes. The Object Browser does not seem to help - am I reading it wrong?

I also would like to do this with combo boxes and their selected indexes. So if the combo box has 10 items in it; the new selected index would be the random number generated above.

Jan 23, 2011I'm in the middle of creating an application that will be used to input customer information whilst the customer is speaking to someone over the phone. This involves the customer giving the employee information such as name, address, postcode etc and the employee inputting that information into text boxes and combo boxes that are in the application.
What I would like to be able to do is after the customers information is given over the phone, I need to be able to send that information to a database which will probably most likely be done by button click. In this case, I'm using Microsoft Access. I'm also hoping that I can do this within Visual Basic coding.
The database is set out with multiple tables which include a customer table and a ticket table and both have multiple fields such as first name, surname in the customers table. Both of these tables are in use with the information that the customer gives over the phone.
I've already asked on other forums and people are where replying giving me third party programs that I could use to implement this, something I don't really want to do.

What I have: a plain text file with a list of numbers. Each number corresponds to a location. When that file is read, I want to create a picture box, a button, and a label related to each number. If I want to add something to the screen, all I Have to do is add a number to the file. So, lets say the file has. 1, 2
When the file loads, it will create a unique item on the display for each location. say pic1, button1, and label1 and pic2, button2, and label2. Right now, if I add something to the file, I have to go back into the editor and manually add everything. Which is a pain.

I also have a stored procedure from the database developer that return the list of categories. Depending on the user selection, the list of categories can vary.
So i have to dynamically create those Boxes. Each categories returned by the SP should replace Category A, Category B, and so on. As i can't know the number of categories returned by the SP i just hard coded those divs. My question is simply how ? How can i achieve this?
I have to be using VB.net in VS 2010. The database is in SQL server 2008.

On my form, I've got a tool tip control which I've conveniently named ToolTip. My edit box displays OK. But, what I want to do is when the user hovers their mouse over the text box, I want the tool tip to display some text.
I think there are two problems that I'm having. I'm not convinced that I'm properly addressing a dynamic text box name. Ideally, I would want to be able to refer to the text box (but using a dynamic variable that will contain the prefix of the name). To hardcode, I would want to be able to achieve (not in this example but in theory): ABCDEFGt_0300.Text = "hello"

Mar 11, 2010I have a big issue which I have been struggling with for days now. I have a richtextbox where users Can input text and print it.
My problem is that i don't want to allow more than one page to be printed so i need to prevent the users in inputting more text than what fits to one page.
I have word wrap set to True which means that i really can't count the lines since they are determined by number of return/enter hits. I can't set the character to a max because blank Lines and spaces Can cause this to differ very much.
What i really need i a way to prevent the users in inserting more text than would fit inside the richtextbox frame and the frame may not be resizeble.
VS 2010 Limit Text Entry In DataGridView?
Jul 21, 2011Okay, I've got a datagridview in my WinForms app that auto-builds the column list from a datatable schema. It's working fine, except that it allows the user to enter values too long for the database field. For example, I have a "name" field that is defined in the Sql-Server database as a varchar(50). Is there any way to limit that cell (column?) so that it only accepts 50 characters? Right now it lets them enter anything and throws an exception later.

I cannot use a monospaced font and MaxLenght because this field will be shown in a report.In KeyPress event handler I tried to create a Label, put the string on it and compare its PreferedSize. Width to the column's Width. It almost worked well but is not easy to control Paste operations if I have to remove the exceeding chars (f.ex.: if I change the text value, the cursor jumps to 0).I also tried using ActiveEditor. CreateGraphics. Measure String but cannot get it to draw(measure) the text the same way DevExpress does.If I could catch a Before_WordWrap event it would be a solution.

Feb 16, 2010I've been writing a weight program for flooded pressure vessels and I'm having trouble retrieving the data from the text files I've been saving. I know how to write the data to the text file, but retrieving it with OpenFileDialog is not so easy for me.The user has individual text boxes that they input strings or numbers into and when they save the file, each text box input is written to one line in the text file. For example, the first text box is for the username, therefore the first line of text that is saved is the person's name, the second text box is the customer, thus the second line in the text file is the customer name, and so on.
(Actually, the first line of text in the saved file designates whether English units were used or Metric units because when the user retrieves the saved file, English units will open one form and Metric units will open a separate form, so some If...Then statement will need to occur).I need to be able to read the first line, have either my "EnglishForm"form open or my "MetricForm" form open, and then have each subsequent line of text be displayed in their corresponding text boxes. I know I need to use ReadLine or LineInput, but I don't have a clue what to do.Assuming the syntax I've displayed below would just magically work (if only life were that easy), it would look something like this
