How can I use Linq to SQL in Vb.net to combine the records of two tables into a datagrid such as shown in this example:Assume i have two tables tbl1 and tbl2
I am used to creating a data set with data from one table, for instance:
[Code].....
Now I am needing to add a second table. For instance, my second table "EQUIPMENT" has a field called "DESCRIPTION" that I would like to add to my dataset. The "WORKORDER" table has a field called "EQNUM" which is what the "EQUIPMENT" table uses as the primary key. how to combine these into one dataset?
I have this piece of code wich works perfectly when inserting records into one table using records from another table. My question is that now i need to create another table by using records from 3 other tables (tables are related). Can i use aliases on the column names, like on Oracle SqlPlus? How will be the syntax of the 'INSERT INTO SQL statement?
Dim MyConn As ADODB.Connection Dim MyRecSet As ADODB.Recordset Dim tmpSQL As String MyConn = New ADODB.Connection
i have 3 tables in ms access that is patient , NOK,and admission they have related fields, i am using vb 2005. when i delete a record from the patient table i want the related records from the other tables to be deleted.
i've implemented a system on vb.net 2010 having its database on Ms Access 2010 (.accdb). i have to read records from the tables to a combo box by binding its datasource to the tables directly. the problem is that the data in the combo box is not sorted since in the database itself the records are not sorted. how can i achieve the sorting?
I've got a form where a user enters data. When the user submits that data, it inserts a record to two separate tables via a dataset. One of the records has no problem being saved into the database (in the table it was put into), but the other record seems to temporarily be in there (according to a third form), because it exists for the duration of the application, but when I exit, and then check the database, it's not there, and it's not shown on the third form when I restart the application again either.
I have about 4 different tables with the exact same column names. What I would like to do is select the top 4 records out of all of these tables combined ordered by date (as date is one of the columns that they all share).
I'm writing an assignment in VB for a class which displays records from an Access database. It goes as follows: From a "Rooms" table, I get the rooms to be displayed in a combo box along with 3 checkboxes which will tell me if they have a jacuzzi, private access of a fire place. From a different table in the same database I need to display in text boxes the bed size, weekday and weekend prices for booking each room. The text boxes should display the correct information according to what was selected in the combo box, but I can't get that to work! The checkboxes work fine, but the text boxes stay the same.
Here's what I have so far: Private Sub Rooms_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load Try Dim RoomsData As New RoomsDataTier Dim RoomsDataSet As New CottagesDataSet RoomsDataSet = RoomsData.GetRooms [Code] .....
Using a datagrid, binding to one table, and related to one combobos, I cant update records, cause gives me a violation error. I'm not changing the primary key, so, I dont undersatnd cause this happen. I prepair a example of this error, and it was attached to this message.
I am writing a message system on my server, the xml is something like this
<xml> <entry> <sender>[code]....
my problem now i guess is 2 fold, i wish to combine the first 3 queries into a single query and place in a list or a collection or is there a way to do this with a single query that will give me my desired result?
I want to create a sub that gets changes from my typed dataset and datatable. But it says mydatatable is not a public member of dataset. Passing in as objects.
Public Sub GetRateChanges(ByVal myDataSet, ByVal myDataTable) If myDataSet.HasChanges(DataRowState.Modified Or DataRowState.Added) Then ' Create DataSet variable. Dim xDataSet As DataSet
[CODE]...
Another question. . I pull this infor from a view via tableadapter and it comes from several different tables.. How could I save my changes and insert the new records to the appropriate tables>?
Customer | Product ------------------ A | Car A | Bike A | Boat
[Code].....
If I use a normal JOIN then I get a list of friends for every separate product. I just want the two lists once.
The output lists with '-' need not be table cells, they can be <ul>s.
How can I achieve this? I would like to bind to ASP.net GridView. Should I try to do it all in one query, or use multiple queries and somehow add them both to the same Grid?
Each row actually forms part of a long report. Essentially each row of the report contains Customer ID, a bunch of other fields which match one-to-one with Customer ID, then the two lists for each Customer ID I described. Perhaps I can use a separate query for each list, then manually add each list to the grid on RowDataBound or similar?
Let's say I have Plans and Documents Dim myPlans = _context.Plans.Where(predicate1) Dim myDocuments = _context.Documents.Where(predicate2)
I have structured the where clause for each using PredicateBuilder. So, myPlans and myDocuments have a correct SQL statement. What I'd like to do is join these two tables into one linq statement. The problem I'm having is that, by default the AND condition is joining the where clauses.
myPlans Where clause : (p.name like "%test%" AND p.name like "%bed%") OR (p.description like "%test%" AND p.description like "%bed%") myDocuments Where clause : (d.name like "%test%" AND d.name like "%bed%") OR (d.description like "%test%" AND d.description like "%bed%")
When I combine the two the desired result Where clause is: Where (d.ID = p.ID) AND (myplans where clause above) OR (mydocument where clause above). Meaning, I'd like the two where clauses in each of the tables to be "or" instead of "And".
The current result where clause is: Where (d.ID = p.ID) AND (myplans where clause above) AND (mydocument where clause above). Meaning, I'd like the two where clauses in each of the tables to be "or" instead of "And".
I'm forming the statement like this: Dim test = From d in myDocuments _ Join p in MyPlans on d.ID Equals p.ID _ Select d.Name, p.Name
I need to count the number of records that match on the GIDs from the 'Directories' table (GID) and the 'ClientSubscriptions' table (DirectoryGID), and also the 'FranchiseGID' from both; as follows:
Dim iSubscriptionCount
SQLCommand = "SELECT COUNT(*) AS Counter FROM Directories.GID, ClientSubscriptons.DirectoryGID FROM Directories, ClientSubscriptons WHERE Directories.GID = ClientSubscriptons.DirectoryGID;"
[CODE]...
I need to determine whether or not to show a menu option based on the above.
Full Code: Default.asp
<!--#include virtual="/System/Startup_Admin.asp"--> <!--#include virtual="/Admin/FranchiseAdmin/DirectorySetup/i_Directory.asp"--> <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-
I asked on SO a few days ago what was the simplest quickest way to build a wrapper around a recently completed database. I took the advice and used sqlmetal to build linq classes around my database design.
Now I am having two problems. One, I don't know LINQ. And, two, I have been shocked to realize how hard it is to learn. I have a book on LINQ (Linq In Action by Manning) and it has helped some but at the end of the day it is going to take me a couple of weeks to get traction and I need to make some progress on my project today.
Click HERE To see my simple database schema. Click HERE to see the vb class that was generated for the schema.
My needs are simple. I have a console app. The main table is the SupplyModel table. Most of the other tables are child tables of the SupplyModel table.
I want to iterate through each of Supply Model records. I want to grab the data for a supply model and then DoStuff with the data. And I also need to iterate through the child records, for each supply model, for example the NumberedInventories and DoStuff with that as well.
For the record I have already written the following code...
Dim _dataContext As DataContext = New DataContext(ConnectionStrings("SupplyModelDB").ConnectionString) Dim SMs As Table(Of Data.SupplyModels) = _dataContext.GetTable(Of Data.SupplyModels)() Dim query = From sm In SMs Where sm.SupplyModelID = 1 Select sm
This code is working...I have a query object and I can use ObjectDumper to enumerate and dump the data...but I still can't figure it out...because ObjectDumper uses reflection and other language constructs I don't get. It DOES enumerate both the parent and child data just like I want (when level=2).
I'm having a nightmare with LINQ. I've got a table of Projects, and each project has many InvoiceHeaders. The Invoice header had a field AmountNet - the value of the invoice.
I want to retrive, for arguments sake, all of the fields from Projects, with the count of invoice headers and the sum of AmountNet. I.e. list of my projects, how many invoices I've raised and the value.
Doesn't sound hard does it.... well, I've just spent the best part of two hours charging through Google and SO to find a solution.
CREATE PROCEDURE [dbo].[TestProcedure] AS BEGIN SELECT TOP 1 CampaignID FROM Campaigns SELECT TOP 1 ServiceID FROM Services ORDER BY ServiceID desc END
In my .NET Project, I have a LINQ to SQL file (.dbml) and I have drag-and-dropped this procedure to create a new class TestProcedureResult:
Partial Public Class TestProcedureResult Private _CampaignID As Integer Public Sub New()
[Code]....
So it is not returning ServiceID. How can I retreive ServiceID using LINQ to SQL? I know we can customize stored procedure calls, but how can I customize in this particular scenario?
Dim queryX = From m In db.Master Where m.Field = value Group Join d In db.Detail On m.Id Equals d.MasterId Into Group Where d.Field = value
In English, I want to join the master and detail tables, specifying conditions on each. But this causes the following compiler error:
"Name 'd' is either not declared or not in the current scope."
It works if I put this same condition in functional form:
Group Join d In db.Detail.Where(Function(x) x.Field = value)
but I think this is more typing, harder to understand, and introduces that irritating dummy variable. I really would prefer to use the query comprehension syntax. Is there a way to accomplish this?
How can I use dynamic fields in LINQ in the PART OF THE where query? I mean that I want to write where x = *dynamic fields* I want to do the select query in all of the tables that are in the dataset, not on one datatable.
Processing an XML file with LINQ to add records into a table in a SQL Server database via a data context. As we are adding records we need to assign the parents in various other tables. Most of the time we can find the existing parent and use it but sometimes we will need to create a new parent.Thought we could do this like this:
Dim defaultPub As publication defaultPub = New publication With {.name = e..Value} Dim pub = _Data.publications.Where(Function(s) s.name =
I am trying to learn OOD/OOP and read on the net that I am not supposed convert SQL tables into classes. But I cannot find an explanation why not to do it or which tables to skip. So I made an web application based on the below diagram. It works perfectly well. But I do not use OO. which table should not be mapped into a class and why not. do not use LINQ or NHibernate, etc as I do not understand them. I just need to understand the OOD.
I have a VB .Net linq query that I want to return values from two tables. I currently have this: Dim query = (From c In db.Client _ Join u In db.Users _ On u.UserID Equals c.UserID _ Where (c.ClientID = 1) Select c, u).ToList query (System.Collections.Generic.List(Of )) returns several rows as expected each item containing a c and a u. How do I iterate through the queries collection?
How to JOIN tables on nullable columns? I have following LINQ-query, RMA.fiCharge can be NULL: Dim query = From charge In Services.dsERP.ERP_Charge _ Join rma In Services.dsRMA.RMA _ On charge.idCharge Equals rma.fiCharge _ Where rma.IMEI = imei Select charge.idCharge
I get a "Conversion from type 'DBNull' to type 'Integer' is not valid" in query.ToArray(): Dim filter = _ String.Format(Services.dsERP.ERP_Charge.idChargeColumn.ColumnName & " IN({0})", String.Join(",", query.ToArray)) So I could append a WHERE RMA.fiCharge IS NOT NULL in the query. But how to do that in LINQ or is there another option?
The problem was that the DataSet does not support Nullable-Types but generates an InvalidCastException if you query any NULL-Values on an integer-column. The modified LINQ-query from dahlbyk works with little modification. The DataSet generates a boolean-property for every column with AllowDbNull=True, in this case IsfiChargeNull.
Dim query = From charge In Services.dsERP.ERP_Charge _ Join rma In (From rma In Services.dsRMA.RMA _ Where Not rma.IsfiChargeNull Select rma) On charge.idCharge Equals rma.fiCharge _ Where rma.IMEI = imei Select charge.idCharge
