If I want to change a single element of one of the elements of the array, for example the DayHi field of the 0th element, then the code ATRList(0).DayHi = 4 causes the error: Error3Expression is a value and therefore cannot be the target of an assignment. Now I could get round this by reading all the items out of the 0th element into newATR, changing the field I'm interested in and then doing a "ATRList(n) = newATR" but there must be an easier way?

This still leaves me with an empty array value, how can I just delete it or can't I? Do I have to use an arraylist and if so how do I convert an array into an arraylist?
I've come up with the following and it's partly working.

The above code works fine! But im having trouble trying to now retreive whats stored in the array.In the above example, an entry will be stored in serialports(4), all other array elements will be blank.If I do this it works.
MsgBox(serialports(4).PortName) ' this retuns the value COM4
But I'd like to loop though all array elements and print out ALL the PortNames, The below code doesnt work, I get an error Object variable or With block variable not set.

i have 2 string arrays and I want to merge them together then put the elements into a third string array ..
for an example :
string1="a","b","c"
string2="d","e","f"
after merging:
string3="a","b","c","d","e","f"
I feel quite silly asking this, but I couldn't find a definite answer anywhere. in vb.net, how are the array elements defined (if they are defined) for, for example:

does, at this point in time, myarray(3) for example have a defined value? If so, what is it?
I'm using the following code to read in a highscores file with the score written first and the player's name written to the next line, and then display the top 3 scores or fewer if there aren't 3 scores written to the file. A highscores display should have the scores sorted with the highest first so that's what this program tries to implement.
Array.sort() isn't doing a damn thing. In fact, the program's not even reversing the arrays like it should either. I've tested array.sort() this way with the names and scores arrays given explicitly and it works fine. I thought maybe it was still reading the data as string even though it's declared otherwise but it rounds off decimals when I change the array type to Integer so I'm pretty sure it's not that.
I have no idea why reading the data in from a file changes how it's sorted. My teacher didn't understand what was going on either. Does anyone know what's going on here?

I already know how to loop through the array to populate the DataTable with new DataRow but I'm looking for something much faster if it exists. I am just starting VB at 60 years old and with no programming experience and nobody to ask for help...except here, of course. So needless to say I am hitting brickwalls. I am using "Murach's Visual Basic 2008" and it seems to be a good book. This is what I am up to I have to declare an array with 5 elements with an index. I think that part is OK. Then add code that adds each element to the next one every time a user clicks a button. I have had many tries but the best I can get is just the grand total of the elements. Now I'm VERY new at the reading in a text file and storing into arrays thing and tried for hours last night to figure this out, googling and every possible way of writing the code. I have a class I am working on for a program I am writing while I am stuck at hospital 3x a week and was wondering. If my class has a Reset function that sets the count variable to 0, can I then say that the Data array is equal to "nothing" and wipe all the data that was in it?

For example, I have an integer array called sec1() that has 71 elements.
I tried:
vb sec1(1 - 71) += 1 But when I run the program, it gives me an error. Not a red-underline error, some other error that doesn't stop the program from compiling but stops it from running. Is there a way for me to modify all of the element of my array at once? just out of curiosity will the same method work for string arrays?

Using 3.5 VB1 framework.net..I'm trying to add an element to an array..i would like to clear the listbox and display the array contents in listbox. then add another button, then add an element to the array, from the textbox.[code]It plops it right into listbox and deletes any previous entries into listbox..What Ive studied so far after all these hours to make the next button is to use UBound function to find the highest element then add one to it and ReDim it with that value.

I've resized the array and that adds the objects but unfortunatly (not suprising) the added items have not been initialised, do I've reverted to using a do while loop and adding the elements indiviually, but looking at the code around it where addrange is used extensivily, I was just wondering if that was a neat vb.net way of doing the same thing
