Multiple Classes For Serialize Objects?

May 9, 2009

I have one class with <Serialize> attribute called Tree. And Tree class has an arraylist of TreeNode classes. Is it possible to use Soap to convert the Tree class and arraylist of TreeNode classes to one xml file or binary file? If it is possible, do i need to use <Serialize> attribute on TreeNode classes too? If not, what should i do then?

XML Serialize Friend Classes

Sep 23, 2009

I have a few classes (about 15 or so) in VB.net (2005) that I would like to be able to serialize to xml. Unfortunately they are labeled as friend classes and cannot be exposed outside of the assembly.The assembly is a dll that is a com interop plugin to a CAD system. I have set all of my classes as friends so that they are not exposed outside of the assembly for 3rd party use. I am wondering if I even need to do that. Setting the class to public would allow me to serialize things. However I don't want people linking to the assembly and using the classes.Should I even worry about other programs linking to my assembly? In fact I don't think there is a large chance of this happening. I just don't like the idea of having almost all of my classes with a public scope.Is there a way to make a friend class serializable?

Asp.net - Serialize Linq Objects Not Working?

Apr 14, 2010

Using the following code:

Private Sub MakeMeSomeXmlBeforeRyanGetsAngry()
Dim db As New MyDBDataContext
Dim customer = From c In db.Customers Select c

[code]....

I am attempting to serialize my linq collection of customers. But it keeps throwing

Type 'System.Data.Linq.DataQuery`1[MyDB.Customer]' cannot be serialized. Consider marking it with the DataContractAttribute attribute, and marking all of its members you want serialized with the DataMemberAttribute attribute. See the Microsoft .NET Framework documentation for other supported types. My issue is that I have already marked the dbml Serialization Mode to UniDirectional and when I check the dbml codebehind all of the DataContract()> and DataMember()> elements are there. I have tried adding various dataloadoptions and setting deferredloading to false, but no luck.

C# - Serialize List Of Objects In Android And Deserialize In WCF?

Apr 17, 2012

I have an ArrayList in android that I'm trying to convert to a Base64 String, then passing that to a wcf service though JSON and the wcf service inserts the string into a database. Then I need to be able to read that from the database and deserialize it in a .NET application.

This is how I am serializing the ArrayList in android:

private String convertByteArrayToSave(byte[] b){
if(b != null){
return Base64.encodeToString(b,0,b.length,Base64.DEFAULT);
}else{

[Code]...

The ultimate goal is to be able to be able to create a list of these shapes in the .NET app or android app and be able to read the list in the .NET app and android app no matter where it was created from. I'm able to it when you create the Shape from .NET and read it into android using WCF but creating it in android.

Download Xsd Specifications From A Web Service And Automatic Converting (serialize) These Schemes To Classes (visual Studio - .net)?

Aug 8, 2011

I want to download xsd specifications from a web service and automatic converting (serialize) these schemas to classes (visual studio - vb.net). If the organization that is responsible for the xsd schemas alter them in a way that only my class corresponding to the xsd have to be altered (not the rest of my code) I would like to automatic update my xsd corresponding class.

I use vs2010. What I want to do is: call a web service where I can send in an input parameter to the service which specifies the xsd I want to retrieve (the service is GetShemaDefenition and returns an object with the schema specification in a string property of the object). I den have to read the xsd string from the string property and convert this to a class representation of this xsd specification. Is it possible to do this automatically? I have done this manually by using xsd.exe. If the owner organization of the xsd has altered the xsd specification, I have to test if there is a new specification, and if there is I have to build a new class representation of this xsd? Is it possible to do what I want? And how would I know if it has been a big change in the xsd which also affect other parts of my code, not just the class representation of the xsd?

Update:I use one web service where one of the properties is a string. The string is an XML inside a CDATA block. The organization which provides the web service will not pares the xml inside the CDATA block but instead forward this to another organization that will use the xml data. The organization which uses the xml data specifies the xsd schem that I have to follow to generate my xml correct. This is the xsd schema I can get from another web service. I don't really understand what I can do with this xsd file from the web service. What can I do with it and why do I want to download it from the web service, when I can't use it automatically? Because I have to manually do the changes when the xsd changes I can easily download the xsd schema from the organization's home page and make the new class with xsd.exe.

Array Of Child Objects In Nested Classes And Accessing Child Objects In .Net

2) How can I return actual number of Node() array? [code]Outside my class in main project I define cls1 object:[code]Now an array of class2 is created inside cls1.

Classes And Objects?

Aug 29, 2010

The 1st part of the code required me to write a class definition for a class(Worker). The class should include Private variables and Property procedures for a worker object's name and salary.

The salary may contain a decimal place. The class should also contain two constructors:a default and a parameterized.

The second part for the code indicates that I need add a method named GetNewSalary to the Worker class.The method should calculate a Worker objects new salary, which is based on a raise percentage provided by the application using the object.

Before calculating the new salary, the method should verify that the raise percentage is greater than or equal to zero. If the raise percentage is less than zero the method should assign the number zero as the new salary

There are three text boxes which allows the user to enter the employees name current salary and raise percentage....the calculate button will display the new salary in the new salary label box...so far here is what I have for the worker class.

The Class for the code had to be written from scratch. Can you please look over the class code and see if I need to chang anything....that will allow the program to run.[code...]

Creating Classes And Objects?

1) Add a Private variable named _area2) Associate the _area variable with a Property procedure called Area3) Change the CalculateArea method to a Sub procedure. The method should calculate the area and then assign the result to the _area variable.4) Include a parameterized constructor in the class. The constructor should accept one argument: the side measurement. After using the Public property to initialize the Private variable, the constructor should automatically call the CalculateArea method.At this point I believe I've completed the first 2 steps for the Square method, but I'm not sure where to go from therHere is my code for the Square class and the Main Form, in tha order:

Trying To Understand Classes And Objects ?

Jun 5, 2010

I've been trying to understand classes and objects. Yes, I'm thick headed and slow, but I made the decision to go to .Net and I am determined to improve my coding skills to be more efficient. I have spoken to Atma several times on the topic and read most of his posts concerning classes and objects, but still came away a little baffled (He's really advanced for me yet). I needed a simplistic analogy for a reference point to begin understanding. I was reading about OOP written by MikeJ in the following thread/post ...[URL] and it all started to become clear in this statement , but I would like some reassurance that I'm getting it ..."A car IS-A vehicle, while a dog HAS-A tail. The car would be an object declared as type Vehicle, while the dog would have a member that IS-A tail. However, Fido IS-A dog. The dog class is the base template for all dog objects, so when we declare Fido as a dog, Fido is an object. Since Fido IS-A dog, Fido HAS-A tail."

From this I have taken the following understanding...

Vehicle ... ' Class
Car ....... ' Object
Truck ... ' Object
Van ....... ' Object

And from that can I infer that this is true?

Dog ....... ' Class
Fido ... ' Object
Tail .. ' Member of Fido

So to apply this to a program I wrote recently that tracks Generator service...

Generator ' Would be the class
Brand X ' Would be an object
Spark Plug ' Would be a member
Gas Tank ' Would be a member
Brand Y ' Would be an object
Brand Z ' Would be an object

This statement also helped ...

""Class" and "object" are sometimes used interchangeably. However, classes describe the structure of objects, while objects are instances of classes. Each instance is an exact copy of its base class. Because an object is an "instance" of a class, the act of creating an object is called instantiation. To describe it better, a class is a blueprint, and an object is a building based on that blueprint". I can understand this (I think) and it refers to a basic template such as ..."Generator" (my class or blueprint or template) Generators have an engine, powerplant, fuel tank, etc. These are basic requirements to be a generator. (Template or Blueprint) They can differ by Brand of engine, Size of powerplant, and type of fuel used. (Based on template or blueprint) Do I have it down now? MikeJ also made this statement ..."you can't access certain types of class members from outside of the class itself." From this I assume you would need to assign a Global variable the value of the class member if you needed to use it outside of the class?
