I call upon the VB ninjas out there. Here's my situation. I need to eventually be able to pass multiple models to a view. Currently I have a linq to sql class that, of course, has a bunch of generated model definitions. I need to make a model that implements multiple models. I somewhat understand how to do this in C#, but this project is testing my VB skillz. Here's some snippets from my linq to sql models. I need to combine these two into one model to pass to the view.

On a textbox you can have auto complete but you can only have one word. Is there a way to have every word in the text box ask for auto complete?
View 7 RepliesI'm trying to send some words to an application I'm running (no webpage). To do this I run my vb program and minimize it, so that the application I want to send the words to have focus.Now I've tried sendkeys, but it seems sendkeys only sends my first word and does nothing with the other words. The code below is called 4 times by the main form [code]but this throws in a overflowexception was unhandled error at the apiSendMessage(hWnd, WM_SETTEXT, 0, "Hello") line.I've tried several things but I can't figure it out how to send multiple words to the application without problems.

This solves the word and has an option to save. Or it solves and saves all words in a list. I tried to do it with jokers using the jokers as every letter but it slows the program down drastically.
i want to replace certain words each time they are detected in order to create a correct response. i have managed to replace the word"i" with "you" and "you" with "me" separatley but when both words are detected in the string it dont work....

I'm using the code below to take a string and split it up into an array. It will take: Disney Land and make it two separate elements. If the string contains "Disney Land" then it is one element in the array. Works great, however it adds some empty elements to the array each time. So I just iterate over the elements and remove them if they are empty. Is there a tweak to the code below that will prevent those empty elements from occurring?

It works fine, i click button and the gridview shows all the right records. The problem is when i use more then 1 word in textbox. it shows nothing. The record in the database field may have several words, so i need to search using all words in textbox.
I'm trying to make the autocomplete work on a list of items entered into a textbox separated by semicolons. I have a list of authors the user can choose from and it autocompletes as they type the name no problem, but what I'd like to do is after the user types a name followed by a semicolon, the autocomplete works on the next name and so on.e.g., Smith, John; Eastwood, Clint?
View 1 RepliesI recently had some problems with the performance of the Word object model. In an add-in that I wrote for Word I need to parse through all the words of a document and replace some of them or ask the user for the ones that have multiple replacements. I know that it is faster to ask Word for all of the document text content at once and then process it and put it back all at once again, but this is not suitable for my add-in because I need to have access to the range objects that represent the words that have multiple replacements so that I can somehow mark them in the document and present the user with a tool tip from which he can select the replacement he wants.
So for the moment the single great speed improvement that came in my head was multithreading since most people already have dual core or better. The problem is that all the things you find on Google say that multithreading in Office is a very bad thing to do.
So is there any one who managed to do this in a manner that worked in most of its usage? By this I mean if it also worked on other PCs then the development one?
Is there any open-source component for VB.NET that offers real-time spelling (i.e., as you type) much like word? I found some free and open source components but without that ability.

View 2 RepliesI'm using the VB.NET 2005 RichTextBox control as a base for a user control that I've written, and one of the functions I'm writing into this control is a spelling check. There's a problem I've found though: I can't preserve RTF markup when corrections to the spelling are made.I've tried my own method of breaking the content up into an array and checking against a dictionary, as well as using MS Word (less ideal because now my control is dependent on having Word installed), but with both the only way I could get it to work at all was to use the Text property. This fails to handle any formatting the user had done to the text, so at the end of the spell check, everything is back to the default font. Bold text, colors, highlight, lists, etc. are lost.
A crappy way I found is to use MS Word, but use a temporary RTF file for the spelling check. Basically I save the content of the RTB into a temporary RTF file, load it with the Word object, run the spell check, save the changes, and then load it back into the RTB. That's a poor solution though, and it still has me bound to MS Word which I would like to avoid.
I'm certain that someone must have found/written/implemented a spelling check like this, so I'm hoping I can get some guidance on how to correctly approach this so I check the spelling of the box and retain all formatting that the user may have made.

Ok so basically heres what i need to do: Extract text from the webpage that meets a certain criteria. There will be a ton of these on 1 page and i would like to add them to a rich textbox on sperate lines.
I know that it needs to be in a loop and its needs to Parse the wepage(Dim web1 As String = Me.WebBrowser1.Document.Body.InnerText)
The criteria is: Starts with 1 to 4(random) integers, Followed by "my" then 13(random) numbers and letters. Or if it starts with "167my" + 6(random) number and letters.
Edit: Also im going to try to make it loop through a list of webpages to do this.

View 3 RepliesI have attempted to make my first 3 tier application. In the process I have run into one problem I am yet to find an optimal solution for. Basically all my objects use an IFillable interface which forces the implementation of a sub as follows

Mostly this pattern seems to make sense. However my problem is, lets say I want to implement a property for Stock called StockBarcodeList.Under the above mentioned pattern any way I implement this property I will need to pass a connectionstring to it which obviously breaks my attempt at layer separation.how I might be able to solve this problem or am I going about this the completely wrong way? I am deliberately trying to avoid using the dataset in any form.
I want to create an custom control just like an Autosuggest control for my windows application. When I type, it should show a grid for the suggestion have the typed value.for an example if I want to search a student "ashish". As soon as I type A in textbox, it should show its First Name, Last name, Address, its image and some other info into a grid or grid like format beneath that control. Are there .txt dictionaries out there with this information? I've checked a few places like WordNet but I didn't see a dictionary that also includes sentence info. My other concern is using custom classes. I don't have a lot of experience creating classes, and I really want to become more familiar with them, so it is important that I integrate them into this project. What would be a logical way using classes in this project? Maybe a 'word' class?

I am very confused about the database type to be used in my vb.net application. I have been using SSCE database, but for that user has to download and install SSCE, which many of my users do not want. If I use Access, the security issue is very very serious.I have downloaded a few database apps from the internet, which donot require any such thing to be installed and also I see no known database format in the application folder. changing the way the site search is done from just search a phrase as one string to searching a phrase "as multiple words" search. For example, if I search "cute puppy" right now, it will search it for "cute puppy" as phrase and won't match just "cute" and "puppy". The way the search is implemented is by passing a search phrase to a Stored Procedure in SQL Server.So now, I need to change to site search so when "cute puppy" is searched, it will search two words.... "cute" and "puppy" instead of just "cute puppy". Below is how the store procedure is implemented
