MySQL Connector - How To Keep Connection Open With Status
Apr 25, 2010I am developing an application with VB using the MySQL Connector Net [URL]. Now each time I go to load data in to a datagridview or in to text boxes on a form, I have to provide something along the lines of:

I think it would be better to leave the connection open to the MySQL database while the application is in use. That way I can just continue to execute queries of inserting and updating, without having the delay of the application having to reconnect. Is there a way where I can create some sort of background task in the application that monitors every few seconds that the connection is still active, and if not it tries to reconnect until its reconnected? I am trying to have it so that then I can code it to just do queries, and when the connection breaks - it disables the form until it is reconnected.

Mar 15, 2012I am building a program for a small office and I have a little problem with the code so I thought it's better to post a topic before continiue.. I have search into google and a lot of forums about database connectivity and my problem is simillar to other but a lot of things differs.The error that I get is on executeNoQuery() and it's called {"Connection must be valid and open."} Well a lot of things may related to about that.At least now from my re-search I covered all the filds of the problem and still not fixed. So please check my code for (Add new customer) button and let me know where I have mess up.

The MySQL connection will be created on the login form and I was wondering how to get it to the other form. What I thought I should do is create a public mysqlconnection property on the login form and just use it from there. I don't think I have ever known the correct way of transferring a mysqlconnection over 2 forms.

Mar 11, 2010I'm trying to insert a new records into database, one of those records is a "datetime"...when I type a wrong date, and try to insert those values into database, i get an error (about wrong typed date etc.)...ok, that's fine, things need to work that way. But here comes the problem, I correct the date, and then try to insert values again...here I get an error from the post title. And this doesn't work until I close that form and run it again...here's part of my code:

For this I made 3 forms, 1 form - login form, 2 - as ADMIN, 3 - from USER, the database each user has a role defined by regimes (admin / user). The problem is the following - after entering the username and password will not open one of the forms 2 or 3 but the application closes without any error.The code is:

I am using vs 2008 and the VS SP1. I have added a VB Forms Project. Now, when I try to add a New ITEM and choose ADO.NET ENTITY DATA MODEL, it asks for the Datasource. Now, here it lists only SQL Server and I do not see the MySQL option at all. I have added the Mysql.data.dll to the project as a reference.
