No Display Update While Running Code?
Aug 8, 2011I have a self made program (visual Studio 2010 VB) that is running OK but.when i write data to a listbox the output in the listbox appears after the code is finischeded running.

I have tried to give some feedback that the process is actually progressing through the data by changing the value of text fields on the form. However the text fields do not update on the form until after the process is complete. Mar 29, 2011Everything in my program is working correctly so far. The only problem I have is trying to update my totals for the program. I need to show total sales, total pay, and total commission for the program by using the file and then summary key. How the program works is that you get a base pay of $250 and you get a commission rate of .15 if you reach 1000 sales. I have done running totals before but not for one with multiple functions.

However, during a query the application simply hangs and does not update the GUI until the query has finished, at which point the spinning icon is set to invisible anyway. Is there any way to force the GUI to update while the query runs?

VS 2010 Backgroundworker Thread Running Faster Than The UI Can Update Progress?
Nov 15, 2011I have a VB.NET 2010 app that uses a backgroundworker to process MS Word docs. All of the code does what it is supposed to do, except when my code calls ReportProgress(). The UI cannot process the ProgressChanged event fast enough before the values in the class that are passed are changed. I know this because I inserted a System.Threading.Thread.Sleep(100) line after each ReportProgress() call which allows time for the UI to make the updates properly. I guess I am looking for a better solution thanThread.Sleep(100) since this adds to the amount of time it takes to process all of the files. Here are some snippets of code that I am using:

both queries have 5 fields. now what i want to do is after this insert or update takes place, i need to look at this inserted/updated record and compare it with another table (table2). Especially for update, i have 5 fields in both tables. if any of the 5 fields dont match with table2, then i insert a new record in table 2 which is the updated record in table 1.
Textbox Text Property Won't Update Programmatically After First Time Running Through A Method (but Will Thereafter)?
Jul 28, 2009This is my first post on this forum, so please excuse me if I'm posting wrong. Anyway, I've been having an issue that I've never seen before and is driving me nut, I have a windows form on which I have placed many textboxes that display information from a MS SQL database. The user can then change these values and hit a "save" button which writes the changes to the database. I also have certain textboxes that with the "on leave" event (after a user enters a possible new value) trigger a method that recalculates some of the other fields based on the new information. Hopefully that all makes sense.
So the problem is, when I run through this "recalc" method the first time around, it doesn't update those textboxes that it's supposed to. However, when I put a breakpoint in and debug through it, the debugger shows it putting in the correct values into the textboxes. It's just as soon as the method is done, it puts them back to blank, or whatever they were before

C# - Display NotifyIcon And SSDP Service Running During AutoLogon?
Feb 15, 2010I've got an application (that is targetting .Net Framework 2.0) that is running on startup of the System, and I'm trying to get a NotifyIcon to display.When my program starts up when a user either Runs it normally or is started as a child process after the system has already logged on everything is fine.
If my application starts up as the system is performing an AutoLogon using POSReady2009 (basically XP with Single User set). Then the NotifyIcon never becomes active.If you subsequently check (in a timer) the .Visible of the Icon at any point later it always reports that it is visible = true.If you disable the SSDPSrv and restart the Computer, the Icon displays correctly.I have a sneaking suspicion this is related to .Net 3.5sp1 installed over the top of a .Net 2 system.Is there some process that I should be following to ensure that my NotifyIcon is always available to the user.I have setup RegisterWindowMessage("TaskbarCreated") but I don't get this message called, except when you forcilbly Kill Explorer.exe and restart it. Even so, a NotifyIcon interally registers for these notifications anyway, so it shouldn't be required.I'm happy to stall the startup of my program, but once the program starts up, I expect that the icon shows correctly.

Project Running Old Code Instead Of New
Aug 23, 2011I have been working on them and adding to them for several months. Out of nowhere, one of the subs in my project is not recognizing updated code. I had a for loop in there that was acting funny so I changed something and noticed no difference. I messed with it for a while and decided to just replace everything in that sub with a simple msgbox and it still tries to run the code that was previously there. I have built the solution, rebuilt it, cleaned it, closed and reopened it, removed the bin and obj folders and restarted my computer several times. This is not a server program or anything dealing with IIS or anything like that.
