I made a small app that uses a hidden form and shows a notify icon to do some things with, strange thing is that the notify icon is not visible. I changed the opacity of the form back to 100% to make sure the form is open and it is. I also step through the code to make sure it was executing and it is. I also published the single form app and installed it on another machine and the same problem exist as the debug machine.
I made another test app with only a form and a notify icon and in the load event of the form, I put the same code minus the if statement and still no notify icon.Is this a bug in VS08 Pro?Heres my code
NotifyIcon1.ShowBalloonTip(10000000, "Reminders", "No settings have been entered", ToolTipIcon.Warning)
I have absolutely no clue why my notify icon will not appear. I use notifyicon1.visible = true on the form's load event, but it seems to not be working. I have tried every single thing possible. Does anyone know what is going on???"When the going gets tough, the tough get Chuck Norris"
I've been successful with this in VB6. The VS2005 notifyicon class is certainly much nicer and much improved.I've implemented a notifyicon and it's working as expected with one exception.
I have been working with the Notify Icon to make it easier for some who prefer minimizing an application into the notification bar rather than the task bar. I have a drop down item that allows the user to Show in Notification area if checked. If it's not checked, then the form reverts back to default with the task bar. However, when this is checked and I minimize the form, I can not open the form from the notification tray. The problem is when the notify icon is visible and clicked, I need it to run code. If the form is minimized, I want it to show the app when I click the icon.
Here is my code: Private Sub ShowInTaskbarToolStripMenuItem_Click(sender As System.Object, e As System.EventArgs) Handles ShowInTaskbarToolStripMenuItem.Click If ShowInTaskbarToolStripMenuItem.Checked = True Then NotifyIcon1.Visible = True [Code] .....
recently been working on an application and added a minimize to tray feature. An update to the program made it so I could run multiple instances of the application without them interfering with each other. Which is great and what I had planned. BUT now when more than 1 instance of the application is running I have two notify(tray)icons on the system tray.My question is how, if its even possible, would I make both minimize into the same tray icon and just add a contextmenuitem to the right click menu (listing the name of the windows that are minimized). I hope thats not too confusing.I know how to add the contextmenuitems that won't be an issue once I can figure out how to get the windowstate of the other instance of the application.
instance1\..................................................._open instance1.windowcaption ...............\_______trayicon>contextmenu__/__open instance2.windowcaption .............../................................................\___close all instances
im having problem with this code, what i want it to do it go on the site nd if it finds the word online it switches the text so say it directed to google and the word online is somewhere in the html code of the site, the app should then change label 5 to online BUT i get this error
"Could not find file 'C:UsersOwnerDesktopAMi BETAAMi BETAinDebugwww.google.com'."everything i want the notifyicon to do is working but i only want it to pop up once but every time the timer ticks it pops up
Private Sub Timer1_Tick(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles ServerStatus.Tick
I noticed that when the app closed the icon remained on the taskbar until the mouse was hovered over it, so added this:- If Not AlarmClockNotify Is Nothing Then AlarmClockNotify.Dispose() End If .. and that did the job.
Then I noticed that if the balloon was showing at the time the app was closed, the icon went - but the balloon stayed, so added this:- If Not AlarmClockNotify Is Nothing Then AlarmClockNotify.Visible = False AlarmClockNotify.Visible = True AlarmClockNotify.Dispose() End If
and everything worked fine until the app was closed WITHOUT the icon showing (only dislays if an alarm is pending in the next x days) - then it throws and 'object reference not set to an instance of an object' - odd because it passed straight through the 'not is nothing' If statement.
I have added a minimize to tray function into my webbrowser and it makes use of the notify icon control. Now I know my code isn't flawed as it works in vista in xp but not in 7 (The icon simply is not in the tray).
I have a application which is written in background worker. Inside the background worker i am creating the multiple threads . The application has one notify icon. When i creating threads the notify icon gets duplicated for each thread. Suppose if i am running three threads means , there are 4 icons in the system tray.
i created a notify icon for my application...whenever i minimize my app,it will go to system tray.. how to restore my app BY double clicking on my notify icon?
Every six minutes, my program talks to an instrument. Then, it activates a notify icon's tool tip for half a second to say what it did and when. According to the databases, everything's been going great, but the balloon tip text is a week behind and still trying to catch up. I'm getting text after text about stuff that happened last week. You should know that no one's touched the machine for at least a week. Because the program talks to the instrument every six minutes, the computer never hibernates, never shuts down, and the screen saver is off.
I'm working on a project with FTPwebrequest methods, the problem is that every time the program executes a FTP command such as download/upload/connect, It completely freezes the form. However I need a progressbar to keep the user updated of the download status. The only way I can see this working is applying the progressbar to a notifyicon(taskbar).
I'm trying to split the text into two lines in a NotifyIcon1. My code NotifyIcon1.Text = "Line1" & My.Application.Info.Version.ToString & _ " Line2 " & "Test"
I have a button that will Minimize the program to the system tray. How would it to look something like the picture on the bottom when the Notify Icon is clicked once or right clicked?
Simply saying I've added an Notify Icon to my project and then added context menu showing up when the left mouse button is pressed. The problem is that with the context menu some blank form is showing in the taskbar. There is no such form within the project.Does anyone know why it may be happening or how to get rid of the effect? I might add that I have other context menu attached for mouse right click button and it works fine, no blank forms and such showing on the taskbar it's just the left mouse button that works that way. Here is the code that I am using to show the menu:(the visible state to false is necessary for the other menus not to pop up with the one i want... unless anyone knows better method)
Private Sub NotifyIcon_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.MouseEventArgs) Handles NotifyIcon.Click If e.Button = MouseButtons.Right Then
ok, i want to add a contextmenustrip to my program's button on the taskbar.thats the program, over its button.like, firefox, (and every program) it has its button down there and if you right click, the right click menu comes up with stuff like "close" and "maximize" and "restore" etc. how do i add a contextmenustrip to my program's button?also, my notify icon does not go away after i close out of my program till after i roll the mouse over it.strange... o_0with my web browser, i have it in form2, and i need the updates folder in that picture, to open form2, navigate it to the updates page, and then take off the scroll bars. and i have it all set up, and it works if you use the updates button on form2, but it wont take the scroll bars off if i use the updates button on form1.
I have set up a notify icon for my form. I want to make it so that when the user clicks the close button that it doesn't close the form it just takes it to shows the notify icon. They can exit the program from the notify icon. Can someone tell me how to keep it running?
My FormLoad event contains a simple line which is Me.Hide. Then I make the tray icon visible so the application can be shown if the user needs it. However, the Me.Hide statement doesn't work during the form load procedure. It seems to work fine after the form has been loaded. So, my question is, how can I simply stop the form from becoming visible in the first place or hide it after it has loaded?
I've create a VB2008 app that upon clicking the applications Start button it creates an icon in the taskbar that is visible to the user upon creation, it also shows a balloon tip at the time of creation. This all works great when the program starts but once the balloon tip timeout value has elaped, the icon, in Windows 7, disappears from the visible portion of the taskbar and becomes hidden, which is only visible if the user shows the hidden icons.
My question is this...... In the VB2008 program is there any way to set the behavior of the icon so that it remains visible on the taskbar instead of allowing the icon to become hidden?
The original design of the program was to get an environmental variable, display the value of that variable in the balloontip, hide the form and then check every 10 minutes for a change in that environmental variable. Once the form was hidden the user could see that the program was running by the presence of the icon in the taskbar and if they hovered over the icon it would display the current value of the external variable. Also if the user wanted to return the form to it's full size all they had to do was click on the taskbar icon. With Windows 7 if I hide the form and the icon is not visible in the taskbar because it too is also hiddem this may create a problem for the user as they may not even be aware that Windows 7 hides the icon. So....Is there anyway to insure that the icon remains in the Windows 7 taskbar or is this a case where I need to re-evaluate my program design?
I've got a panel - that's in a group box. All of this - with lots of other textboxes on labels - is in another panel (the big panel).I make the big panel visible and not visible based on selections made by the user. This small panel - that's in the group box. I cannot seem to make it appear.Even if I leave it VISIBLE at design time - the objects in it will not appear. Is there some kind of nesting problem that I'm not aware of!
I have five menu items that i have created as a user control and placed on the master page. Now i want one of the menu items to be visible only for particular user role and not visible for others. Here is what I did. Its not working though.
I'm having an odd problem when making a form visible and not visible and it not continuing to function. Here is what I have happening. I have a main form (frmMain) that is an MDIParent. On this form I have a menu to open a second form (frmCalculate) and populate a listview from Items in the database.
As I click or select items in the listview on frmCalculate the tag is read and data is pulled based on the id stored in that tag and fills in various fields on the form. This works great. However, I also have a context menu attached to the listview that allows me to perform a "what if" scenerio on the items I am calculating. When I select this menu, I hide the frmCalculate and open the frmWhatIf form where I can mess around with values on the item I had hilighted in the listview on frmCalculate. Nothing is pulled from or written back to the database here, all the information is filled in from fields on frmCalculate. It just allows me to look at rising costs and how they will affect my margins.... anyway.
If I then close frmWhatIf, it brings my frmCalculate back by setting its visible propery to true (never closed frmCalculate, just hid it). At this point if I click an item in the listview I get an exception for a null reference. IF however I never hide frmCalculate, I can open and close frmWhatIF without ever having an issue. Why do I lose the functionality to select items just by hiding and unhiding the form? As a test I added two menus to the toolbar on frmMain one called hide and one called show. I then opened frmCalculate with original menu item to populate the listview and selected a few items to test that it was working and then using the hide menu I made the form invisible and the show button to bring it back. This yielded the same exception so without even opening frmWhatIf the problem still occurs.
I have placed several PictureBox Images of different colored dots(which represent lights) on an image of a Christmas Tree. I can make the lights randomly flash using a randomGenerator and a Select case statement. However, the code is very long. There are 67 lights on this tree and the code is 71 pages long. There has to be an easier way to do this. So far I have tried the following with two images of lights just to see if it would work and it does not work:
I currently have the following code but I would like to get away from going to a physical location. If I have the icon as a resource, how can I programatically add the icon? I don't want to use the form's designer to do this.
Sub Form1_Load() Dim ico As New System.Drawing.Icon("C:Resourcesicon.ico") Me.Icon = ico End Sub
