Only Having One Tab On The Taskbar For All The Forms In Application
Dec 16, 2009
Is it possible to make my app only have one tab on the taskbar? I have already created all the forms and now i am 'tidying it up' and i want there to only be one tab for the whole app. Will i have to set one form as a parent and all the others as child forms? Or is there a setting that just needs to be turned off?

I've created a form that plays some internet radio. The thing is the user wants an extra form for volume control that is docked to the side of the main form. This is no problem, i've made that, but im having some trouble making this form shown at the same time as the main form.In short what i want is that when you set focus on form1, form2 should also get in the foreground. Not focused, it should just follow form1

I have a main form called frmMain from which all other forms and actions are launched. In the menu bar on frmMain there is a text box where the user can enter an inventory item number. This shows a new instance of frmBundleSearch. This frmBundleSearch may get multiple new instances opened at a time. What I would like to see is the frmMain in the taskbar separate from the frmBundleSearch when it has enough open instances to begin stacking in the taskbar. Right now, when I debug, when the taskbar starts stacking the application's forms, all of them are in the same stack, so right-click and "Close All" nukes the whole app. Is it possible to keep them separated?

I have a program with which I can open a second form on a beamer, this works perfect, but what I do notice it that on the taskbar (I have windows 7) I see the main icon of the app but also the form that is created.What I would like is that the second icon is not displayed on the taskbar thumbnails, this way I can't close the second form by the X but only by a button on the main app.

So heres a image of what I'm trying to do [URL].. My application is a toolbar sort of thing.. I want it to be stuck to the user's taskbar and the '::'s in the example will be draggable areas so they can move the toolbar left and right above the taskbar.
What I need help doing is: 1. How can I get my app to stick to the users taskbar? I know I cant set the position to mine because different screen resolutions etc, is it possible to do?
2. How can I make the draggable areas only drag left and right and not up and down?

I have a form in an application I'm working on that normally displays full screen without a taskbar but provide the option to switch to a minimizable window with a taskbar. When I switch from full screen without taskbar to minimizable window with taskbar everything is ok. When I try to switch back to full screen the border disappears but the taskbar is still there and the form is not aligned properly.The text at the top is cut off somewhat and there's a small margin at the right edge that shouldn't be there.I put this code in a keydown event for the form.
If Me.FormBorderStyle = System.Windows.Forms.FormBorderStyle.None Then
Me.ControlBox = True
Me.FormBorderStyle = System.Windows.Forms.FormBorderStyle.Sizable[code]....
How do I get the taskbar to disappear and the form to display properly when I return to the full screen mode?

I have a VB.NET form that takes up the whole screen. On Windows XP, the taskbar is not displayed when moving the mouse to the bottom of the screen. I have auto-hide set, and the taskbar is not locked. I tried the same thing on a Vista computer and it works fine. What am I missing on Windows XP? I need the auto-hide feature to work for my app like it does for other Windows apps.

I am writing a vb application and i want it to run in the background and also appear int the taskbar ie no window will be opened. The main function of the application is to get data from an external database and send it to excel so it does not need to open a window just to run in the background and also appear in the task bar with options for connecting or disconnecting from the database.
I also want to know if its possible to send the data from vb application to a particular file in excel?

I need to do it with a few lines in Visual Basic .NET 2008. I know there is a Windows API Code Pack by Microsoft but it's a large collection and written in C#. How to do this in VB.NET without using a .dll reference?

I want to form to start up hidden. Little background on my program, it is a small taskbar application, Has a small notify icon. When the app is loaded. I only want the notify icon to be visible. I have various Forms in my application (MDI and normal) what are hidding the Windows taskbar when I dont want it, and I dont know why it is happening.
This Form have set the next relevant properties: WindowState = Maximized, MaximizeBox = False, FormBorderStyle = FixedSingle.
I have to say that when I call the form to show, the taskbar is still visible, but when I minimize the form, and then restore it, the form is in "Full Screen" and i cant see the taskbar, why it happens?

I have a basic three form application. It doesn't seem to close after navigating through forms. If I were to open the application, and the main form is displayed. If I press the X button, the application closes fine(Goes from processes) If I were to open the application, and then navigate from the main form to another form using me.hide & form1.show, and press the red X on Form1, the application again, closes fine.

I have the requirement to create an application that has multiple front ends developed using Windows Forms, WPF, ASP and Compact Framework Mobile Forms.I would like to be able to create a series of obejct representing the business logic and have this logic accessible from the various front ends available. My first thought was to use remoting as I'd like to be able to pass the business objects back and forth between client and server but the compact framework doesn't support remoting and also transferring a full framework business object to a compact framework business object doesn't seem possible.My next thought was to use web services but again the passing of business objects seems to be very hard to accomplish. Without doing this I would have to create individual web methods for each business operation.
Finally my next option is to use sockets and write the whole client/server logic within some classes and expose them to the UI/Business layer. My only problem with this is it is not scaleable should the number of clients increase dramatically whereas using remoting or web services I can host the solution via ASP.Net.Does anybody have an ideas on the best way forward for this or even have any input on how they would write an application that required a windows form, wpf, asp website and mobile device GUI all of which want to use the same business logic?

I have a vb.net 2008 application which has its corresponding icon.
The icon shows correctly except in the taskbar when the "small icon" setting is on.
My vb.net project includes a .ico file which when I see in the IDE includes 16x16, 32x32, 48x48, 64x64 and 256x256 bitmaps, in 4, 24 and 32 bits, also 3 .png images in 256x256 32 bits each.
I made the icon myself simply using a 64x64 bitmap and then converting it to .ico, and assigning it to the application in the project properties. I thought windows would use and escalate the corresponding image, it shows even in the file explorer properly in the small icon form, but not in the taskbar.

I have a windows forms application written in VB.NET which scrapes information from serveral web pages (who doesn't right)? Anyway, I am having problem with one particular site where partway through the page navigation my application hangs. When I press pause (or break) in the debugger, it stops on a call to System.Windows.Forms.Application.DoEvents.
Resuming execution shows that it really is stuck on this line (it does not reach the next line of code). It also hangs about the same point each time I run it (at least its consistent). Since System.Windows.Forms.Application.DoEvents yields to other threads on the same processor and then resumes execution of the current thread, I think the problem is that some other thread is not behaving well (not returning from some event handling code). I thought Windows 7 was pre-emptive, which makes me
doubt that theory but I really don't know.
[Code]...
The program scrapes somewhere between 12 and 14 pages before it gets stuck on the call to DoEvents. Does anyone have a clue why this would happen? Why would any call to DoEvents hang?
