Feb 17, 2009I am currently developing the 'solution' through the UI Dialog properties of VB 2008, so my application can be installed onto a computer .It works ok, installs successfully, creates the desktop icon, start menu icon and programs folder....... BUT, when I go into the Control Panel, the uninstall option is there, but not with my own icon it uses the Windows default icon.

Nov 3, 2010I have been searching everywhere for help and cant find anyone or place nice enough to work with me.I work for a bank, and support 40,000 users as an admin on a team of about 20 people.We are always having to force log off users out of SQL and always having to restart machines due to stuck files or folders open, or for troubleshooting purposes. So i am working on an application that will log off and shutdown users from the network.I have the log off from SQL completed.However i am having trouble with the line for restart.I started off trying the shell command Shell("cmd.exe") and now i have switched over to Process.Start("shutdown")
If you have any admin experience on a full blown network or wan, you know that when using cmd or run the syntax is:shutdown -m \computername -r -f -t 00 where m is for listing computer r is for reboot f is forcing apps closed and t is for timer.I have to pull the workstation from a textbox inside our tool. Or at the very least input the workstation to the command prompt So when i try and place this into vb i am using this:
Process.Start("shutdown", "-m \""" & TxtBoxWorkstation.Text & """-r -f -t 00")However the whacks(backward slashes) are not correct in the code.Im trying to figure out where the whacks go in the line of code.Im not getting any errors in vb, but when the cmd prompt loads it does not initiate the command correctly because the whacks are in the wrong location

The problem is that if I save a file I get "myfile.GDL" if I overwrite that I get a new file "myfile.GDL.GDL" ect.the other problem being that the filtering in the windows save/open dialog wont show .GDL files unless I select "all files".

May 7, 2012Have built a project and associated it with a Setup&Deployment Project. The S&D project needs to contain 2 main folders (under User's Desktop) with various formats of files (xmls, txts, dlls) inside them and several subfolders. How can i copy/import these 2 folders and there sub-files/folders into my s&d project?
When adding them in the usual way, they are copied and defined a source path onto the current pc. You can understand what errors this might create when an another targeted pc does not contain those files to the exact location. Is there any way to copy them locally or somehow import them?

Jul 9, 2009I'm currently working on an application that allows users to select picture files and then categorize them into folders. Now I'm having two issues that are probably simple to fix but I only have a year of experience with vb so I just don't know how to fix them. The first and biggest issue is that once the user has selected and categorized a file, I want the program to select the next file in the folder that the first file was moved from. This way the number of clicks required is minimized. However I have no clue what I would need to do in order to accomplish this. Also, my other problem is that I want to be able to find the indexof a quotation mark but whenever I put it in the parameter it just reads it as a quote.

Jul 15, 2009Lets say i'm making a new dialog. I don't want to expose the properties of the form to code elsewhere, only specific ones I define. I tried making the form Protected (including the Designer generated code) and putting it in another class, but then I can't figure out how to access the form from my code. Sep 19, 2010How do I get at and invoke the properties dialog supplied by the manufactured? I have search this many times and found that most of the posts contain solutions that the original poster claims don't work The standard PrintProperties class does not handle a lot of printers who have specifictsks, eg a printer designed to pint on the face odf CD/DVD. I have found examples of how do this in VB6, but every examply I find for the versions of VB Basic after thet have comments that the solution provided did not persist the user chnges. Bow, come on, there has to be a way of displaying and persisting the user choises the dialog bog provided by the printer manufacturer!Terry

It still puts all images together, so i cant add multiple images with the same name? (needs to be the same name - its a filename)

Aug 27, 2010I'm new to VB.Net, i have a situation like,you have folder name "Arrange", inside this, it contains so many "txt" and "zip" files, you can rearrange it by right clicking and select "Arrange By , Last modified", i have to access this option through code and have to do this every time while i'm looping or entry of the function.
I can do this in program through forEach loop and get details like filename and creationDate, but i want to arrange it in "Arrange" Folder.
