Option Base 1 Implementation For Arrays In VB2010?
Apr 29, 2012
I believe that prior to VB.NET, VB allowed arrays to start the first element as "1" instead of zero via the Option Base 1 option. Is there a simple way to implement this functionality in VB2010?

In VB6 I load a recordset containg all of the records (6 fields per record)in a table into an XArray and then manipulate the records in the array and then write them back to the original table. The array issorted by the first field (1 to maybe 8000 or more) I need to find records in the array by an ID field and then move them (because of some external criteria that happens many times) from say number 400 to number 375. Then all of the other records between 375 and 399 were renumbered up 1 to fill the gaps left by the move.
The XArray worked well as it could find and also move to a next record easily to facilitate the revisions to each record quickly. Everything is done in VB6 in code and nothing visual needs to be shown to the user until say 2000 of these external changes are complete. What is the best, most efficient way to do this in the .Net framework in VB2010. Datasets, Dataviews. tableadapters, arrays. enums ?

Dim payloadBytes = Convert.FromBase64String(payloadBase64)
Basically when my facebook registration form [URL]mphone field has a dash in it and encoded string is posted to other page and I am trying to decode it there which creates this error. Basically I am trying to extract data from Facebook Signed Request.

I really like the coding speed that vb.net provides, but I don't like the possibility to forget to declare variable types, return types of functions, etc. and that is why in each class I use[code]..
Is there a way to define those two options on the project/solution level?

the combo box style 1 has both the drop down option but also a manual entry option. I need to know how to code it so that when you manually enter data, it takes that data and places it in a text message "The shipping charges for "data" is $15" displaying in a text box. Shouldn't be hard but have developed a mind block.

I have a VB.net console app and I am opening a function in a dll written in fortran. I am passing 3 arrays through the function by reference. When they come back out the otherside they ahve all tunred to arrays of only one element And that element is 0.I read on the internet somewhere that when doing this kind of thing it is a good idea to only pass the first element of the array into the function.I tried changing my function declaration to accepting single elements rather than single dimensional arrays, and now the arrays are the same length before and after the function call, but they don't seem to be changing at all, so i'm not sure that this is working

the statement Dim state(49) As String and maintain a list of certain states. The list of states should always be in alphabetical order and occupy consecutive elements of the array. The buttons in the program should give the user the following options: (a) Take the state specified by the user in a text box and insert it into its proper position in the array. If the state is already in the array, so report. (b) Take the state specified by the user in a text box and delete it from the array. If the state is not in the array, so report. 1. I have read that keeping Option strict on and Option infer off is good practice and will insure your code is tight and properly written. I would like input regarding this, pro's and con's from those who are in the know.
2. Having said that, I have set Option strict on and Option infer off in an existing program I wrote (that was working perfectly mind you) with them off and on respectively. I went through and cleaned up all the errors on the 'need AS' and casting of variables, but one is leaving me a bit put out.[code]
I have also read where using My.Computer.System.Directory.GetFiles() instead of System.IO.Directory.GetFiles() is probably not a good thing, but when I change to this I get no error, but also no dataI am thinking I should stay with the strict on and infer off but am really slogging through getting this code correct.Running Win7 on Dual Quad Core XEON Intel Extreme with 8Gb RAM.

I am writing a text editor program and I have written the new, open, save as, exit menu items but I am struggling with writing the save option. Now I have created the menu itself (well vb did, I just used insert standard items) but how do I code up the save menu option so that it updates the current document or if the documnt has not yet been saved bring up the save file dialog. Here is the code I have so far
Public Class Main
Private Sub NewToolStripButton_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles NewToolStripButton.Click, NewToolStripMenuItem.Click[code]....
I know I have some finishing touches such as messages and error handling and stuff but at the moment I want to get all the basics working,I think the save menu option is all I am struggling with at the moment.

Using VS2008, targetting framework 3.5, trying to update some VB4 code. Yes, VB4.I have a bunch of legacy code I'm trying to update, and I had the idea of trying to work through it by executing the old code, working out what was causing each error as I came to it, solving the problem, and then moving on.In order to do this, I have sinned and set Option Strict Off, Option Explicit Off and Option Infer On.Yes, I'm going to hell for this.Problem is, I'm still getthing errors that various things haven't been declared. All of these the items showing errors are in the form: itemName(obj)Is my problem that the compiler thinks that these are method calls for methods which haven't been declared?PS: For anyone wanting to tell me not to use these settings, I already know

I was wondering if anyone knows a built in method ( LINQ say or a LAMBDA expression or other way ) that you can compare2 arrays - collections that would be valid for an equivalent 3rd array - collection which is a combination of the 1st two.
As an example consider;

I have to take over a project written in vb.net, which contains more than 400k lines of code written in option strict off mode. I want to build it under option strict on first before I do anything else -- which maybe converting it into C#. I found there's thousands of lines of code raises compilation error, mostly are about implicit type casts. Is there any tool would help to make it compile under option strict on mode if I don't want to correct every single line manually? Because it's really painful to add CStr/CInt invocation into every line of Code myself.

I am a budding MCTS so I am not a 100% sure of whether I am correct in this instance.I am looking through a windows forms application created by a developer who has left our company some time ago. Within the code I have found a custom form derived from the standard form baseclass which explicity implements IDisposable. The custom form does not call any COM object or do any file IO operations and has only one database call which is closed and disposed off in the method that calls it. However within the code of the form there is the following,[code].....
Looking at this am I right in thinking that this should be removed including the implements IDisposable line at the top of the form since,
1. The listeners collection will go out of scope when the form does as the collection only references listener objects (which do not implement IDisposable).
2. The controls do not explicitly need disposing, since when the form goes out of scope this will be done anyway.

I need to implement the IBindableComponent to the the following code:
Public Class InfragisticsToolStripBindableButton
Inherits Infragistics.Win.UltraWinToolbars.ButtonTool
Implements IBindableComponent
[CODE]...
1 problem: Warning: event 'Disposed' conflicts with property 'Disposed' in the base class 'DisposableObject' and should be declared 'Shadows'
2 problem: Error: Class 'InfragisticsToolStripBindableButton' must implement 'Property Site As ISite' for interface 'System.ComponentModel.IComponent'. Implementing property must have matching 'ReadOnly' or 'WriteOnly' specifiers.
Why should I implement "IComponent" if I implement "IBindableComponent"?
3 problem: How should I override "Dispose", if it's already implemented in the base class, but is not virtual apparently.

I'm sorting a collection of type "Document" (usually around 100k records). Sorting usually takes around 4-5 seconds, and I'm wondering if there's a way to speed up sorting by modifying my "DocumentComparer" class which implements IComparer(Of Document). Since the Compare() method would be called hundreds of thousands of times, are there any performance improvements that could be made here that I've overlooked?

After some research, I've decided to use the Liang-Barsky line clipping algorithm in my 2D game. Google did not deliver on any VB.NET implementations of this algorithm but plenty C/++ ones. Therefore, as I have knowledge in C++, decided to port one found on Skytopia over to VB.Net. Unfortunately, it does not work with:
Public Class PhysicsObject
Public Function CollideRay(ByVal p0 As Point, ByVal p1 As Point, ByRef clip0 As Point, ByRef clip1 As Point) As Boolean
Dim t0 As Double = 0.0
Dim t1 As Double = 1.0
[code]....
However, the CollideRay method fails on its 3rd edge iteration (edge = 3), r < t0, therefore the function returns false.

The problems:
I can't use string.Format, I have C style format strings;I can't call the native printf (no P/Invoke);I can't use http://www.codeproject.com/KB/printing/PrintfImplementationinCS.aspx because of the license, I need something GPL-compatible.Is there a free implementation of printf/sprintf for the .net framework? Other than the above link, I couldn't find anything.
I cooked up a sprintf function that supports basic format strings, you can find it here: [URL].. I'll try to make it a complete implementation if I can.

I need to use some functions from a DLL written in C++. Problem is when I try to use those functions in VB (Visual Studio). The only way I get to pass the debugger without errors is if I use the VariantType type, but I get all screwed up values. Can anyone tell me how can I "translate" the use of char [6] into VB from C++? My problem when Implementing is with the variable INFO, the content comes back after execution with errors..This is the original code from the DLL Manual:
Code:
Int Get_Info(A Handle, char *IPAddr, InfoType *Info)
where the parameters:
A [IN] Handle.
IPAddr [IN] IP address
