I'm getting a very odd problem with a conversion from C# to VB (VB10 - .NET 4 target):
C#: IEnumerable<string> test = new string[] { "abc", "def", "ghi" };
int i = test.Count<string>();
VB:Dim test As IEnumerable(Of String) = New String() { "abc", "def", "ghi" }
Dim i As Integer = test.Count(Of String)()
the last line results in a compile error "overload resolution failed because no accessible 'Count' accepts this number of type arguments"

I need to write a program that requests a high number and a low number from the user, then the program searches the array and finds all elements within the two numbers. The program is used to search for past presidents, so if I type 43 for low number and 44 for high number, the program will display:

I am trying to create a program that has a button and a text box. Everytime the button is pushed I want it to add one to the text box. I keep getting this error: Overload resolution failed because no accessible 'Int' accepts this number of arguments?

I have read just about every other post on this forum and many others, but they do not sort out the problem I have. I am building a website using asp in dreamweaver backed with an access database (this is what the company chose not me!)My page is a search page and is based on user input, my SQL query works as I have tested it both in access and through dreamweaver when setting up my dataset.Everything works, until I place a datagrid on my page to display the dataset results, then I get this error.

I'm trying to build a form which generates itself as it is used. I have created a really simplistic example, loosely related to what I'm trying to do below, but which demonstrates the problem.The user types a word in the text box, clicks the Button and a new TextBox is loaded into a Panel, with the value in the original TextBox that the user has entered. The user should then be able to type something else/the same and create another text box with that in it by clicking the button, basically permitting 0,1,..,n textboxes appearing above the "txtFeeder" TextBox on the form.The problem is that everytime you click the button, it doesn't add a new control, it seems to just update the one that has already been created with the new (incremental) ID. I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong, or if what I'm trying to do can't be done (which I find hard to believe)?Here's the .aspx...

I am new in programming. And I am coding with VB.Net (VB2008). On my form I have 9 checkboxes. And each of this checkbox when checked is meant to submit a value to a dynamic array. Initially the array was a constant that was declared like these:
Dim Notes() AS integer = {1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 200, 500, 1000}
But I want the array to be dynamic. That is the user of the program is to enter the element of the array. So I decided to use checkboxes. So that if the user of the program checks any of the checkboxes, a particular value or element should be submitted into the array. And the user should be able to check as many checkboxes and have values representing those checkboxes submitted in to the array.
For example: if the user check checkbox1, checkbox2 and checkbox50.
The array should look like these. { 1, 2, 50 }
or if the user check checkbox1000, checkbox200, checkbox10 and checkbox500
Then the array should hold or contain the following integers in this order; {20, 200, 500, 1000}.
That is the array is dynamic and the content/elements of the array and the bound of the array should depend on the checkboxes that is checked. What other means can I used to enter values/elements into a dynamic array during run time.

I'm trying to use the .Except() method to determine if all elements in one set are in another set. My code looks something like this: If someParts(0).Conditions.Except(selections).Equals(Nothing) Then ' Using the first element for testing. Console.WriteLine("All elements from conditions are in selections!") End If The expression seems to always return false. I assume it's probably a problem with what I expect .Except() to return in this case.

You need to design and create a program that accepts input of employee name, employee type, and the number of hours worked each week for two weeks.
You must be able to select an employee type. An employee of type Trainee makes $10 per hour. An employee of type Regular makes $15 per hour. An employee of type Manager makes $20 per hour.
The program should calculate the employee pay for the week. The employee should receive 1 times the regular pay for any hours worked over the prescribed 40 hours in a week. The program should output the following information:
-The employees name without trailing or leading spaces
-Regular hours worked
-Regular pay
-Overtime hours worked
-Overtime pay
-Total pay
The Problem that i am having right now is "Displaying " the overtime hours on my "FORM VIEW" i mean i did the math right its just when i type (lblOverHrs.Text = CDec(CDec(OvrHrsWrkWeek1.Text) + CDec(txtOvrHrsWrkWeek2.Text))
Its says the "OvrHrsWrkWeek1 and 2" are not Declared which are..im not really sure where i went wrong..

In other languages (PHP/Python), I am used to creating a class which represents a given HTML page layout. These classes can have an unlimited number of attributes and dynamic features, such as Navigation (multi level), error messages, info messages, footer text, etc... Most of these items have defaults, but may be overridden on a per-page level. For example:

My question is: how do I implement similar functionality into ASP.Net MVC 3 Razor (VB)? So far, I have been able to see how you can use ViewData to pass various bits of data to a view. Also, I have been working with strongly typed views. Frankly, I'm not sure who's job it is to have this logic, the controller or the view (or is there a model that should be in there somewhere). Here is a summary of what I am shooting for:
A single place to initialize the default values for the layout (like the first layer of navigation, etc...) Strongly typed attributes, such as Public Readonly Property Nav1 as List(of NavElement) And a single place to render these layout elements (I assume _Layout.vbhtml) forgive the here-and-there of this post... I'm trying to figure out the "right way" it's done on a platform that is both new (Razor) and new to me (ASP.Net MVC).

I am creating a windows application which required Dynamic Connection String in the app starting (user need to provide db credentials through a form), After entering the connection credentials user redirected to new win form Everything is working fine but how can I pass my dynamic connection to another form.I tried to save it to App variable but I couldn't (I think its read only) Also I tried save it to registry but can't retrieve values.Is there any other option available ? like writing & retrieving ConString to a text file or XML.

I'm trying to implement multicolumn filtering using LINQ expressions in a class that extends BindingList(Of T). Here is the relevant code:

However, an exception is thrown at the Expression.Call statement. I can't quite figure out the right arguments to supply. As it is now, I am getting this error when I run the code:
InvalidOperationException was unhandled:No generic method 'Equal' on type 'System.Linq.Expressions.Expression' is compatible with the supplied type arguments and arguments. No type arguments should be provided if the method is non-generic.

I have a method called ADD in a class that connects to a database. The database class name is XDB. I also have an object named XXX in it's own separate class with properties.One of the instructions for the Button named ADD click event is:
'Call Add method passing in the XXX object
So this is how I coded:

I know it's wrong since it doesn't add the XXX and the form doesn't close but I don't know what I'm doing wrong.

I'm currently working on being able to import a DLL written in Fortran into Visual Basic. I've got all the basics down, so now I'm trying to take it a step further. The title basically says it all, but I'll explain what it is I'm trying to do anyways.

In VB.NET, it is entirely possible to pass an integer as a string parameter to a method without calling .ToString() - it's even possible to call .ToString without the ()'s. The code will run without a problem, VB will interpret the integer as a string without having been told to. In C#, these would cause compilation errors - you are required to call .ToString() and to call it correctly in that situation before it will compile. Is there a way to make the VB compilation process check for the same things as the C# compilation process? Would it be best practice in a mixed team to force this check?

I am developing a form where I want the user to enter a complete recipe. In any recipe, I have no way to know how many different ingredients or how many steps will be involved. So if I am using a row consisting of a textbox, a combobox, and a textbox to represent 1 ingredient. how do I generate a dynamic number of these controls at run time? I have the same problem when I store the steps in creating the recipe. I need to create a dynamic number of textboxes to record each step.
