Pause Threads Or Recreate?

I've created a class that manages two threads for reading from the stdout and stderr streams of a child process. The class is working fine now by pausing the threads when they aren't needed by calling Thread.Sleep(Timeout.Infinite), but I have a question about resource usage...
Does it make more sense to allow the threads to finish execution and recreate them when needed or to just sleep them and then wake the threads up via Thread.Interrupt when needed?

In my application I have a loop that makes calls to a website to download data. I'm using a DownloadDataAsynch call with a handler.
I'm making many such calls in a loop. What I'd like to do is, if I have more than a certain number of replies pending, I should pause the loop and let the data handlers run.
How do I do that?

1) Why the pause button and also the pause command does not exist in VB 2010 Express?
2) I have some solutions under 2010. In 2 or 3, while debugging, I can change instructions without restarting the application. In others, I cannot change anything (Is like readonly), Looking in 'My Applications', Tab 'Debug', Option 'Configuration' I can choose several Options. In the applications I can debug, the default is 'Active (Debug)'; in the others is 'Active (Release)'. If I change the options, the word 'Active' remains attached to the original option.

I just had a new, last-minute idea on to take on a task, so I am running to StackExchange for quick help.
What I want to do is execute a series of methods right in a row, each in their own threads. I want the application to wait until all of these threads are completed, after which the program will resume. It also has to use managed threading (thread pool).
What quick examples could you provide to help me along the way? If it's too complex, what things should I know about so that I can Google it on my own?

I have a main thread which is designed to be a batch processor - it spawns a series of 'child' threads from a loop (which can vary in terms of the no of items) - see below

However, each of the 'child' threads could take anywhere from milliseconds to about a minute to process - depending on the complexity of each calculation. There may also be a large number of child threads - e.g 100s. Creating large numbers of child threads is not efficient. I therefore want some way to effectively queue each child thread (and cancel if the process is taking too long to complete). Autoevents seems like one way of doing this, but the only examples I can find seem to assume there are two different processes on seperate threads, not one process being repeated.

Anybody have any idea how to recreate a datagrid like the one provided in the image or is there a control out there anyone knows of.Notice that the headers are split in a 24 hour period then the the next headers are split in 15 minute icrements. Anybody have any idea how to do this?

im making a program which is a sort of mock OS, and im wondering if it is possible that, when i click a certain button, a picture box appears in the space which is the desktop. The picture box must act as a shortcut, for example if i click on new text file, a picture box with a text file picture appears on the desktop space, same for folders

I have an app that I'm debugging and I need to pause it by clicking on a "pause" button in the development environment. I don't want to stop it programmatically, just manually to check what it is doing. I know this should be simple but I can't find a pause button anywhere on the toolbar.

I am making a Kiosk system and would like to recreate the Windows Taskbar in VB.NET, specifically the window management features of the taskbar: displaying open windows, switching between windows, and highlighting which window has focus. if the taskbar had the same positioning properties as the Windows Taskbar, in that even when other windows had focus the taskbar would still have focus and would not taking focus away from windows on the screen, and maximized windows would not maximize over the taskbar.

I'm playing around with VB.NET once again since college and I'm trying to recreate a program that GeekSquad uses called the MRI for a friend.Upon doing so, I have run into a few snags. The must present one is once I publish my application to a particular spot that also includes already setup folders with portable apps setup in them. I want to use Process.Start("App Path") where App Path is the drive letter of where the Custom Program exe is located and calling file Test1.exe in the test1 folder in the root.

I have done a project were I had to recreate a vb project to match the functions of a demo. In the demo the panda is unable to go through the rock. I have tried hard and am unable to stop the panda going through the rock. Please could someone show me how.

I am using a button on a form which creates a chart at runtime when the user clicks the button. it works ok for the first time but when I select the button the second time I get a square diagonal box or indexoutofrange Exception.Note: I have another button that clears the series from the chart before reselecting the button that creates the chart.

I would like to recreate the behaviour of a button or command button on an user control. I need to layout a group of this user control on a form so user can select only one at a time. When users click on one of this user controls a selection frame is drawn to indicate that it has been selected. The problem I have is clearing the selection frame when other control is clicked on. How do buttons or command buttons do this? If you layout a group of buttons only one is highlighted. I have tried using different events like LostFocus and Leave and nothing seems to work.

In the old days of windows workgroup 3.11 there was the possibility to copy and paste on the network.This feature has been removed which is weird today as we are in sharing information era !So would it be technically difficult to recreate windows for workgroup clipboard on windows 7 in c# ? I refreshed my data sources to include additional items from the SQL Server databases and it appears that my entire data source from my VB.NET project disappeared.I am using Entity Framework. I may have clicked on something wrong, not quite sure. Unfortunately I can't recreate the Data Source without creating a new Entity and Data Model.I can delete the entry in the App.Config file and recreated it, however things aren't quite right.Is there a way that I can recreate my Data Source from the entry that is in my App.Config file...since that appears to have remained intact.BTW, I can go to my Data Model and successfully refresh from there, however my project isn't connecting to the database so I have quite a number of errors until I can get reconnected.

As part of my current project for making student's lives easier by making an All-In-One application with many common programs carbon-copied inside it, I have a slight problem with sticky notes.
I am trying to recreate Sticky Notes as much as possible from the Windows 7 Sticky Notes Application. My problem is, I put a richtextbox on the sticky notes panel and wanted to either add a background image, or a transparent backcolor (my Panel that the textbox is in has the background image of the themed sticky notes). I've been trying to figure out how to pause a process. It seems I need to use 2 different APIs: SuspendThread and OpenThread.I found some C# code at this link that was working for them.After I translated the code to VB, I get nothing when I run the code. I debugged the app and put a watch on the function.The following is what I got from the watch: Name 'SelectedItems' is not declared.[code]In order to work with the selected process, I'm parsing the Process ID. I then use that PID to get that process and then work with it.I sue this type of code often in my project and it works just fine, which is why I am confused that I'm getting that message from the watch.

My problem is that I have a textbox that is filled with a line of data from an attached barcode scanner. I want to make it so when something is scanned into this box, another function is triggered (it clears the textbox and commits the data to a CSV file, so the user can scan another barcode). I was using a .TextChanged function so that when the text was changed in this textbox, it would commit it then, however the problem with this approach is that if the serial number is 77G8DS, then it will commit 7,7,G,8,D and S individually, instead of an entire string.

I am having trouble with an Access form which runs some VB code behind it. The form accepts lots of user inputs and these are then grabbed by my VB code to calculate a result. This all works fine but does take some time for the calculation to complete due to the size of the datasets. Rather than the user having to stare at the same screen and wonder what is happening, I have another form which pops up to tell the user the calculations are in progress. The problem I am having is that this window will not display properly until after the calculation is completed. It seems as though Access cannot handle displayinging my window whilst the calculation is being caried out.

I have tried many different ways to make this work. Every attempt causes a pause where the drag operation is not recognizing the drop sites under it. There are many long narrow flowLayoutPanels that allowdrop of my button. I am basically wanting the scrollbar(vsFLP_UnitPanel) to scroll if the condition is met. It works, but for some reason there is a pause when the scroll begins.

When I run this code, it does not seem to open the OpenFileDiaplog diaplg box, or if it does, it closes it immediately, and I get at index out of bounds exception at the " infileStream = getFile.OpenFile()"This exact same code works without problem in another application I am building. So maybe its something about the IDE environment?I think, but am not certain, that this code worked in 2003 .net. I then used the VS wizard to automatically convert to the 2005 environment that I am now coding in.
