am working on my assignment, i wanted to know whether there could be a way in which if i click on sign in on my vb.net button, i could get a pop up or a dialog style message asking me for the username and password. Is there any way or any possibility of carrying out such kind of technique.
View 9 RepliesI am currently in the process of improving my options dialog for a winforms application. At the moment I am using a tab control. I would like to create a form/dialog for settings that is similar to Visual Studio's. How is this done? I can see a treeview like control on the left hand side but what control are they using to display each of the options pages, it doesn't appear to be a tab control. I would like to be able to build the controls for each of the settings at design time.
View 1 RepliesI have a main form which contains a few buttons...some of those buttons open up smaller forms...there is also a button for each of those smaller forms, which should let me bring the chosen form to the front and give it focus...basically like the tabs in your task bar let you switch between which program you are using...but I'm having trouble with this...I need to click the button 2 times before the form I want comes to the front...the first click removes focus from the currently activated form the second click then moves the form I want to the front.I need this to happen in one click..I[code] figured out the exact cause of the problem.it's due to the fact that the first click doesn't actually take effect since the child form has focus...so the first click actually just transfers focus to the main form...the second click does what it should.I knew it was going to be extremely obvious.so the question now becomes...how can I overcome this if that is possible at all...I know I've seen applications where I can still activate functions of the parent form in one click even if I have a child form open and focused.And it's basically what I need...it does what I want and lets me switch between child forms in one click...but it stuffs up the entire look of my parent form...the layout and colors get wacky...the transparency of certain things don't seem to work and my background image is gone..
View 7 RepliesI've finished a number of project and feedback has been about the working functionality of them but the general look of .net controls "is aged" in their eyes.For example if I looked a picasa from google. The left meu is a treeview.The main window is a listview and they are seperated by a split container. The buttons look soft and rounded.
View 13 RepliesI often use the process of displaying a dialog from a form, with the dialog user input then used to update the main form without any problem. In a new scenerio I launch the main application screen, I then show a login dialog ontop of the main app screen and can launch another dialog from the login if a new user is required. The plan is to update the login dialog (updating a combobox to reflect the addition of a new user) from the new user dialog.

The messagebox implies the dialog has been updated yet the text does not change. Is it possible to update the dialog when using a setup such as Form -> dialog -> dialog? I'm intrigued as why the dialog does not reflect changes. I have never refreshed/repainted the dialog as never required to in my other examples when updating a form from a dialog and never encountered a problem when using a two tier form setup.
how i can change the native scrollbar style in my application to my custom style. I can adopt a custom scrollbar to attain this purpose but this will not serve my purpose because i want this attribute in entire application. Like it the text in textbox gets longer than its bounds than the scrollbar appers are my custom bar not the formal ones

View 1 RepliesI have began building a piece of software that needs to collect a series of information from the user. This information will all be based on what has already been entered. I would like to create a window that has a "NEXT" button in it. As they enter information, they can click NEXT to continue on, similar to how an install wizard works.
My question is... Is there a form type that does this? Or must I create a window with a next button, and when it is clicked, I need to set the visibility of buttons/listboxes/comboboxes/textboxes/etc to false and new ones to true?

I want to create a software which have a Vista-like border style. I currently created some buttons (1 per side and 1 per corner) which have a background image corresponding to their position on the form. But it requires to much CPU when I resize the window (and need a lot of code lines to works ) So, I want to know if their is a way to create a border style (and maybe to add it in the Form.FormBorderStyle enum) to make it easily tranparent, etc.

View 4 RepliesI'm having an interesting issue that I can't reproduce on a different project, but can consistently on this one. I have no clue what might be causing it, but am hoping that someone may have seen it before.
I have a main form, from which I run a series of checks. On this form, I have a listview control. Because of some issues with the refreshing of this listview control, I had to create my own messagebox. It's just a form that displays some text ( it also happens to look nicer than MsgBox; in my opinion, anyways ). It's been working great for months, until recently.
My problem is that on my main form's load event, I run this check, which returns an error within a try/catch block. I then call my custom messagebox with a message. It in turns calls it's ShowDialog() function.
In any other situation ( after the main form has been loaded ), I have no problems. The messagebox goes on the screen and behaves appropriately ( ie: waits for my input and acts as a modal dialog ( stops execution of my main form's thread ) ). However, on this onload event, my messagebox comes up and goes away almost immediately afterwards.
I've traced it all the way to the showdialog() call. For no explicable reason, it appears to skip right over this call, without me doing anything on the form.

View 1 RepliesI have a problem in a vb.net windows application.I have a form with Sizable form border style. but i want to resize it only from TOP & BOTTOM. I have done the code for this.
But when i move the mouse on form's RIGHT & LEFT border, the mouse pointer gets changed to resize mode. When i drag it form size does not change. but when i try to resize it from LEFT whole form moved to LEFT. I do not need it.
My next question is how do i use a .msstyle file for the form theme/style? Preferably not using SkinSoft Visual Styler.net because this doesnt support some things like fixed single border. It also isnt free.

Set the form's visible property to false before calling Show. Error Number 5"

My project has a single dataset with about 6 datatables. Each of those datatables has a TableAdapater and a Bindingsource on the main form (due to various databound controls).
Now, I want to have a second form for adding a new record. If I bind the controls to the datasource it creates new TableAdapaters and new Bindingsources on that form. I was wondering if it's possible to simply use the ones from the main form instead like this

Ok i am making a game in visual basic where its 1998 and you have windows 95 and you find time travel software and travel to different time periods with different operating systems...so far i have coded windows 95 and partly windows 98 into the game and have a good time travel sequence... (this will be a completely free game in the future)

So, the practitioner table contains a list of practitioners, the insurance table contains a list of insurances, and the link table represents which practitioner supports which insurance. Now, I need to create a view which can display the information like this:
ViewTable:
practitioner_id :: int
practitioner_name :: nvarchar
insurance_1 :: bit
insurance_2 :: bit
.....
insurance_100 :: bit
In other words, the columns in the view are the ID and name of the practitioner, and every insurance that exists in Insurances (with the insurance name as the column name (there is an enforced condition that insurance names are unique)). The cells in the insurance columns will indicate if that practitioner supports that insurance. Or better yet, is it possible to use an excel-style pivot table on a DataSet in a VB.NET form?
i'm having a few small problems concerning my MDI child forms.
1). I have a panel that is docked to the parent form so i can change the background colour of the parent form. (the background property doesn't seem to work on MDI parents).But my childforms appear underneath this panel, is there a way to make them appear on top of the panel? (i've tried using .topmost = true).
2). Is there a way to remove the 3d border style of a MDI parent form?

Theres just one major problem i have. Whatever operating system you are using for your current computer (windows 7 in my case) the buttons and tabs and everything else (apart from the windows border... or whatever you all it which i made myself) everything has the modern buttons on it.Hes an in game screen shot :As you can see it looks totally horrible... even the start menu has the windows 7 blue glow effect...I recently found another application (universe Sandbox) and it has the classic buttons even though i am using windows 7.how can i actually make my buttons classic? (without making picture boxes of each button)
