How could I prevent a Windows Form from automatically docking when the form gets dragged to the left or right side of the screen in Windows 7? This is a neat feature in W7, however, for my form it does not make sense (a data input form). Sometimes I drag the form to the right to read some information on a website and input them, yet, under W7 this form docks onto the right half of the screen when I do so.

I have a good program going so far but I am trying to create a minimize to dock feature in which it minimizes to another form (basically hides one and shows the other). I am working on a 23" monitor but I want this to work on all computers. So what I am looking for is a form that three buttons...left, top, right. When the left button is clicked it will dock the window to that side of the screen and fill all of the space from top to bottom with a width of 200 or so. The second button "top" will dock it to the top of the screen and expand the width to the width of the screen it is on. And a height of 200. And the third button "right" will do the same as the left but will put it on the right side. Also is it possible to reserve that side of the screen. (move all icons on the desktop from behind it to the side of it.
View 3 RepliesI am using Visual Studio 2010 to build forms to access databases through DataGridViews.As these tables grow, it would be easier to resize the form to see the whole table.So I try to dock the DataGridView to the bottomand resize the form (The other controls are at the top of the form)This works for the width, but the height of the DataGridView does not adjust.

I have a Windows 2003 server that we regularly RDP in to monitor some programs that we set up to run on the machine automatically.However, the server will automatically log me out after a few minutes of inactivity. Unfortunately the server admin (who has the admin rights to the server, which I don't) is reluctant to remove such restrictions "for security reasons".
Therefore, instead of me trying to fill up 10000 piece of paper getting a security exemption, I am just wondering if there is any tiny program that I can run on the server (either a script or some VB.NET code) that will trick the server into thinking I am constantly typing something even though I am not (For example, as if I am moving my mouse cursor once every 30 seconds or type any letter then erase it in notepad)?Note that since I do not have admin rights, any installation is certainly out of question, and the script, if any, can not require admin rights to run properly.
Is there away to prevent an MDI child form from being auto maximized?
The problem I have is this. I have an mdi application that contains 2 mdi child forms. When I show the first form and maximize it so that it fills the mdi window I can't load the second form non maximized.
Vb.net automatically maximizes the second form despite the fact that I didn't tell it too! If I then restore the second form to its normal size it then does the same with the first form. This is all very strange to me. When you maximize one form inside an MDI window it maximizes them all.[code]...
The First Question is not that important but you know that when you click on 'Favorites' in IE 8 a form thing comes up? Well I've been trying to do that for a long time but I can't figure out how. 2: In IE8 when you expand the window and collapse the window, the toolbars expand and collapse as well. How do I make my tool bars in my Web Browser do that. 3: I actually have a third question and that's, How do you make a horizantal scroll bar on your web browser control. I am working on VB.Net. I have a sub form with a datagridview, that is being loaded with the criteria taken from another form. Hence this form is called with parameters.

Now, I need to refresh this sub form every -- minutes, depending on how the user wants it to be. For this I have given a NumericUpDown control to select the mins. All this works fine. But how do I refresh the dataset and the datagridview?
Is there anyway to "dock" a form to the desktop? I have a "child" form that will display info when the main form loads. This form is not meant for the User to interact with it. When I load the form and other windows are open, it displays over those windows until I minimize and then restore the windows. So I want to be able to dock it to the desktop.

I have the need to either prevent, or restrict, the termination of a VB.Net application. I have no problem with Admin killing the application, but not a user. I've been unable to come up with a solution for this. Is there maybe even a way to set local policy to prevent termination by non-admin?

Because what happens is, there are some links that will open new windows and therefore IE comes in place because it is set as default windows browser which I really don't want because my browser looks really bad if it opens links in another webbrowser.I want it to be just a basic browser, it has only one window, and it should navigate within that window. View 9 Repliesim having a similar problem like the solution here Prevent main form from appearing when showing another form . but some of the suggestions were to minimize the main app so it doesnt show, which i cant do because my main app is supposed to be a desktop to be underneath all other apps to replace the windows desktop. And the second forms are supposed to be sticky notes. so i cant minimize the main window cause it has the user background and other controls. i tried making the parent of the notes a Nothing pointer, a pointer to the desktop, creating the form through a dll but i had no success.My main problem is that when i click a note (form2) form1 comes up, even with form1 having the WS_EX_NOACTIVATE in the createparams. form1 does the form2.show() but they shouldn't be attached.Another reason im having trouble with the solutions preseted in that post is that they are for delphi and im doing it in vb.net.
All i need is being able to click on the controls and write in the note without bringing the main form behind the note. either making them independent, or making the note not focusing the first form or being able to operate the note without it activating. i dont know. my last resource is to attach my main form to the desktop but i've heard is the worst thing you can do because it can cause problems hanging the system.
Is there a way to turn off all visual updates to a .NET form while I am manipulating it? When my program first loads, for example, I set the tab control to the tab that was last open. The user can see the program switching tabs.

I want to prevent from resize of form. I set false MaximizeBox and I set FormBorderStyle to FixedSingle. I couldn't change the MaximumSize of form at runtime. If the user double click on the Tiltebar of the form the form resized. I couldn't prevent that

One of the hurdles I have is that in XP, Vista & 7 when you click the Show Desktop button all of my note's windows get minimized and without a taskbar icon, it's not easy to get them back (at least not for a normal user) & I'm looking for a way to either right after the windows minimize I just have them all show again or if I can skip the minimizing message in the wndproc altogether
I've put together a test app that'll show the messages in a listbox for the form, but I'm not sure how to go about skipping sending the message to the form's base class. Here's a snippet, listMessages is the listbox on the form[code]...

To do this, I looked at some Microsoft documents.I first found out how to add an application to it: url...And then I found out how to autostart an application, like a different shell: url...In order to auto launch one or many applications, you have to make an .ini file and put it in the System32 folder. The .ini file is called, winpeshl.ini. The information in it is [code]When that didn't work, I put quotes around items and it still didn't work.I was thinking that it wouldn't load because my program isn't a shell application. If that's it, does anyone know how to make a shell app?Also, I don't think it's a framework issue because Windows PE comes with the 2.0 framework and I changed my app to target the 2.0 framework instead of 3.5
