Title pretty much says it all. Does anyone know a way to to prevent a computer from entering a low/non-processing mode while the program is running? I don't care about monitor modes, screen-savers, hard-drive spindown, etc (in fact, I'd prefer to leave those alone; I like it that it shuts the monitor off after a time period).Basically, I have an industrial program that needs to continually monitor a PCI card it uses for IO; and this activity alone isn't enough to convince Windows not to go into Sleep mode. We normally just shut the power-save features off, but we had an incident where a technician forgot, a customer's machine went to Sleep after the end of the shift, the pumps stopped recirculating, yadda-yadda big mess.

Currently I'm using System.Threading.Thread.Sleep(5000) to let my app pause/sleep for some time. This works great but I can't open my app anymore when it's sleeping and it uses about 25% of my CPU. I guess there must be a better way to do this. I also tried using a timer but that didn't work out to well for me..

stop windows from going into sleep mode
stop windows from going into sleep mode
This is part of this thread:
stop windows from going into sleep mode[URL]
This is the reason that the user gave: I have Windows 7, and if I don't keep continuously using my computer, it goes to sleep. Now I have to restart my computer, put in the password and start again.

I don't have any idea if it is possible and how can I code it.I have created an application that needs to run on a non-administrator account on windows 7. It won't run if the PC goes sleep/ locked/ hybernate/ on-screensaver. So, I want to disable them programmatically using vb.net 2010. Can any one help me?
By the way, I already tried to edit the power settings of the PC so it will never sleep/ hybernate, etc. But unfortunately, it keeps on sleeping after few hours.

I have the need to either prevent, or restrict, the termination of a VB.Net application. I have no problem with Admin killing the application, but not a user. I've been unable to come up with a solution for this. Is there maybe even a way to set local policy to prevent termination by non-admin?

I am making a webbrowser,how to prevent my browser from opening new IE windows. Because what happens is, there are some links that will open new windows and therefore IE comes in place because it is set as default windows browser which I really don't want because my browser looks really bad if it opens links in another webbrowser.I want it to be just a basic browser, it has only one window, and it should navigate within that window. This is because the browser is integrated in a bigger application only for some website applications that are related to this main application.I am using VB.net 2008 Express Edition?

How could I prevent a Windows Form from automatically docking when the form gets dragged to the left or right side of the screen in Windows 7? This is a neat feature in W7, however, for my form it does not make sense (a data input form). Sometimes I drag the form to the right to read some information on a website and input them, yet, under W7 this form docks onto the right half of the screen when I do so.

I have a Windows 2003 server that we regularly RDP in to monitor some programs that we set up to run on the machine automatically.However, the server will automatically log me out after a few minutes of inactivity. Unfortunately the server admin (who has the admin rights to the server, which I don't) is reluctant to remove such restrictions "for security reasons".
Therefore, instead of me trying to fill up 10000 piece of paper getting a security exemption, I am just wondering if there is any tiny program that I can run on the server (either a script or some VB.NET code) that will trick the server into thinking I am constantly typing something even though I am not (For example, as if I am moving my mouse cursor once every 30 seconds or type any letter then erase it in notepad)?Note that since I do not have admin rights, any installation is certainly out of question, and the script, if any, can not require admin rights to run properly.

I have a multi-threaded report engine application. I know that if I want to pause a thread for an interval I can use Thread.Sleep. What I need however, is to be able to suspend the entire process including all threads for a set period of time. In the past, I've used the Sleep API from kernel32.
It appears though that it's only "sleeping" my current thread and not the entire process which is not what I expected (now that I've read the documentation I realize that Thread.Sleep is probably the managed implementation of this API which is why it behaves as it does). So, my question, how do I force the entire application (and all of its threads) to pause the for the interval and not just the thread calling it? Private Declare Sub Sleep Lib "kernel32" (ByVal dwMilliseconds As Int32)

I know there is always better ways of doing things. Normally when you create a thread and I want it to pause/sleep for a set amount of time I use the <Object>.Sleep(1000) but this is frowned upon in .Net2+.

I have a For..Each loop which loops trough all grid's rectangles and changes the fill of them randomly. I change the fill with a color animation. Here's my code:
Dim rand as new random
Dim changeColor As New Animation.ColorAnimation
changeColor.Duration = TimeSpan.FromSeconds(0.5)
[code]....
The problem is that the loop doesn't sleep. I want to trigger the animation, then wait until the rectangle fill is changed and then continue with the rest, but it seems that all of the rectangles fill are changed in the same time.

Is there is way to delay loops without using (Sleep or timer) in VB
Because on java you cant do something like this
For(i = 0; i< 100; i++) {
Event.Wait(3000)
Animate(i);
}
I dont want to use sleep because your control is dead while is at sleep And using timer waste memory and process timer plus more coding is needed!

To start off with, I will say that I have tried ENDLESS attempts to surpress/capture/stop the actual sleep keystroke.
The code cannot require administrator privilege's. .
I tried:
Private Overrides Sub ProcessCmdKey, and Return true when the sleep key is pressed - did not disable sleep key LowLevelKeyboard - One that can disable the windows logo key - did not disable sleep key And many other keyhandling events, etc.
The code cannot create registry keys because that requires admin privilege's.

I have a frm_Main, which starts a thread. The thread then goes and calls a module, which has a thread.sleep() in it. This causes the mouse to freeze up while it sleeps, despite being called by the child thread. I thought this would have be on the thread time-slice? However it is causing my form to freeze for the sleep duration.

Ok so I have been playing with VB.net and brainstorming ways to accomplish launching a thread reliably every 60 seconds reguardless of how long the prior thread took to do it's work. Here is my question. Given the following code:
[Code]...
My assumption for this output would be that the time between each line would have to be exactly 5000 milliseconds plus the time it takes to execute the rest of the loop which could vary given that there could be an unknown delay due to disk IO. My problem is that looking at lines 10 and 11 and subtracting gives me a difference of 4,958 milliseconds. So my question is what the heck is going on there? How is it possible to get a difference of less than 5000 milliseconds when I have told the thread to sleep for 5000 milliseconds before completing the process. What am I missing?
