Publish Failure - Can't Find SETUP.BIN
Jan 8, 2010
I can't get VB.Net to publish my current project, it can't find SETUP.BIN.It looks for SETUP.BIN in the directory where I have my application, not Program Files Windows SDK .. etc.If I move the ENGINE directory of the SDK path to my directory, it finds SETUP.BIN but not SIGNTOOL.EXE I've got VS 2008 on XP Pro SP2 using .Net 2.0 and Oracle - It all works fine with a BUILD out of VS 2008.

I support applications in VB6 and VB2003, and I'm trying to upgrade the VB6 app to VB2005, so I have three versions of Visual Studio on my pc. I ran VS2005 and opened the VB6 app to launch the upgrade wizard. It seemed to run fine until it threw an error saying it could not find the project it just created. The project I'm trying to upgrade is called MGxFromSAP.vbp. The error said it could not find MGxFromSAP.vbproj. The project file it actually created is called MGxFromSAP.vbproj.vs7.vbproj. When I try to open this project in VS2005 it says it was created in an earlier version of Visual Studio and needs to be upgraded.Did it perhaps invoke the VB2003 upgrade wizard instead of the new one? How would I be able to tell?
Should I just let VS2005 upgrade the vs7 project or should I try to deinstall the old VS2003 upgrade wizard and rerun the upgrade from scratch?

VB.net 2008 build and publish.The application cannot publish as it cannot find the files. I down loaded the MS exe that installs it, but, I need to load them into the same folder as the install package.I looked at the folder: Microsoft SDKs/v6.0Aootstrapper/packages and transferred the folders but they do not contain the files.One of the errors on build is as follows <error> Error32The install location for prerequisites has not been set to 'component vendor's web site' and the file 'DotNetFX35dotNetFX30NetFX30a_x86.msi' in item '.NET Framework 3.5' can not be located on disk. I created a hangman game and It works well when I debug, but when I publish and place it on my son computer, when you guess a letter wrong it shows an error and says it can't find the images. I just it is something that I'm doing wrong but I don't know what. Some of the thing that I have tried is including the images in resources. I believe that it has something to do with the startup path, the path that the images are looking for does not exist. The installer installs the program in the programs file
Private Sub ShowPicture()
Dim strImagePath As String
strImagePath = Application.StartupPath & "imagesfig" & intNumWrongTries + 1 & ".gif"

I'm working on a project, doing fine until now, when debugging it gives no errors and works fine, but after I publish it online and download it, i get an error like thisSystem.Data.OleDb.OleDbException: Could not find file 'C:\Documents and Settings\Local Settings\Apps\2.0\Data\5OBGY35Z.KQX\BA0L3897.GKJ\ monk..tion_e4d7ac4b0efe78e1_0003.0000_40bef6809ef62922\Data\EquipmentWS.mdb'. although searching a little around that path i find the whole files including the 4 database.mdb there, and when i launch the program from that path, it works with no problems. But running the program from the installed files from the online setup still gives me an error.
My program contains 4 Access databases. They all are in the main program path with the other files, and all of them follow this pattern:

I'm trying to create a COM User Defined Function automation add in for Excel 2003/2007/2010 and create a setup program that will install the add-in without the error message "Cannot find add-in 'mscoree.dll'. Delete from list?" occurring when the automation add-ins added to excel. This error occurs when running the setup program on PCs other than the development PC.
Using this example by Eric Carter combined with this Stack overflow answer. I have tried both methods of registering both the custom dll and mscoree.dll. Solutions for this problem are well described in both of those links however neither the registry edit of the setup program described in the stackoverflow link nor the code from the other link that should register mscoree.dll works for me when installing with a setup project on another PC (64 bit Windows 7 PC not used for building the program). (In fact the last comment on the Stack overflow link is a person with the exact same problem that I am describing here.) The add-in does work, I just want to prevent the error message.

I am using VS 2008 VB and setup my application software in Win XP without any issue. But after installed in Win 7, it doesn't work well (it show one file not found, but I saw the file in the right folder). Could it be the incompatibility of VS 2008 and Win 7? If I upgrade to VS 2010, will the issue be fixed?

I'm a Visual Basic beginner. There are many things that I didn't know about Windows software development as I've been a Mac user for 20 years and just started developing Windows programs several days ago.
Anyway, using Visual Studio Installer (File > Add > New Project > Visual Studio Installer), I have two files inside the Release folder - setup.exe and Setup.msi. I've got some information about these files. So when you publish your software, what do you do with these two files? According to one web site, you can put them together into one with IExpress, which produces a file with an extension of CAB. Another web site suggests SFX Compiler. In the meantime, I downloaded a dozen applications at Download.com earlier. If I click on the download button, the final delivery extension is .exe on most of them. I know that you won't go anywhere by double-clicking on setup.exe from the Release folder without Setup.msi. Meanwhile, Setup.msi is a tand-alone application. But nobody uses this file alone to distribute their product.

I've finally got a project compiled and tested and ready to roll out.I have discovered that the "Publish" option is not what it seems, and that we must create a separate "Setup Project" to carry out the task of installing the files.This is not the most intuitive process I've seen, and the online help on that subject is not easy to understand.I was hoping that someone could direct me to a tutorial or guide that would step me through the specific approach I need. Many of the other guides online are vague and address multiple scenarios and do not separate the approaches very well.I have the contents of my project in /bin/release. It runs nicely by iteself with no errors.Here's what I need:
1. To create a setup exe that I can distribute that will install my software, with all of the supporting (resource) files and folders.
2. I need the setup process to force the installer to "agree" to a EULA.
3. I'd would like to provide an image on the installation screen/popup.
4. I would like the software registered in the registry and rely on it being there in the registry.
5. I need it to default to program filesprojectname (it does by default)

I'm having an odd problem with an ASP.Net page.I'm getting an object not set error message when assigning a string literal to a variable. [code] And here is the code that the error is pointing to. The last line in this fragment is the line 10 the error is complaining about [code] It seems it fails on accessing any reference type, even if it is declared locally in the load function. I originally found the problem when Request. IsSecureConnection was nulling out on me. I eventually discovered I could replace it with the above code and fail in the same way. The problem does not always happen. It seems to be triggered by publishing an update from Visual Studio, or when I head home for the day and the server sits idle all night. One or two app pool recycles seems to clear it up, and the page functions correctly. I've been doing desktop development for a few years, but I'm fairly new to web development.So maybe this is something obvious I've got configured wrong. I'm currently using .Net 4 on IIS 6. That code is in a foreach over an IEnumerable(of XElement). The stack trace still points to the string assignment, but all other stack traces are spot on, so I don't think it's a bad pdb.Also, when the error occurred this time, no amount of recycling the app pool or stopping and starting it would fix the error. I finally got it working again by switching the application to a different app pool.

I have 2 tables which I want to insert data into, table "CAM" and table "COut", after inserting data in "CAM" it shall return a retAutoID which will be hand to "COut" as one of the parameter required for it's insertion. I implemented a rollback in my Business Logic such that if "Cout" hits an exception error while inserting, the previous insertion for "CAM" will rollback even if successful.With the code below, I am getting this error after trying to do perform insertion:"ExecuteNonQuery requires the command to have a transaction when the connection assigned to the command is in a pending local transaction. The Transaction property of the command has not been initialized." [code]
