I've made a fairly good Windows form application to solve quadratic equations, but I am having a hard time understanding the publication process microsoft uses in Visual Studio. I'd like to distribute my programm as freeware on my blog.

I am using Microsoft Visual Studio 2008, when I publish my program and I got the setup file and when i tried to run into another computer I got some error saying that it cant connect into the database. Actually I used msSQL 2005 server in my VS 2008.

View 2 RepliesI am using an Access Database with my project. When I publish, all the Forms seem to Publish. Also the database gets published. However, once I install it, there seems to be no connection with the Database.The Forms give me the Oledb error as Im using Access. However, the login form seems to connect with the database. In other words, my applications gets authenticated, but when I try to open other forms, there seem to be an error with DB connection

At present I have wrote an application (in-house CRM, vb .net 2010) which allows me to send emails under the selected customer & I categorised these emails.As these are categorised I can return data to display email history in my program by using search criteria:

I have put at least 4 hours in to figuring out why i cannot view my results when I run a datagrid in my 2010 visual studio WPF application.Also, it looks like it is only filling one record in the datagrid.

View 2 RepliesI have to run a thread create in the code.In the form1 i have a button that run the new separate thread for elaborate some data, so i need it for not freeze the form.I have inizialized thread:

And at the button.click event:

Now, at the form load i have iconized my program, but when i start new thread the tray icon is duplicated from it. I want to resolve that when start new thread it's not show new notifyicon.

I have a list of .txt, .doc, .pdf on my listview. How do i code this problem;
1. When i double-click the item (sample.txt) on my listview it will open in a notepad.
2. When i double click the item (sample.docx or sample.doc) it will open the MS word and shows me the things written on the particular item.

I am trying to make a web application in VB.NET using Visual Studio 2008 that will accept login credentials and compare them with an Access database for authentication/validation. I found lots and lots of examples for how to do this with a Windows Form App, but none with a ASP.NET Web App. tried to modify the steps for a web app but I'm not sure how to make it work. The database connection is good and the query seems to work fine. Here's where I'm having trouble. In the tutorial, he says to use:

No matter what I put in for the username and password (as long as they are valid values) I always get a "success," never a failure. I know my query is working right because I put a gridview on the page and bound it to the result from the query; when I type in a user/pass that is not in the database the gridview is blank, when I type in a correct user/pass the gridview displays that row from the database.
What I have is on my form there are several text boxes. These text boxes are for user input and attached to each text box is a Private Sub txtBox1_KeyPress function. In that function I have some validation code to check that the user is inputing only what I want them to. And if it doesnt it will pop up a message box telling them so, then it is supposed to clear the text box so the user can try again. But no matter what I try, the text box does not clear it still keeps the last character typed (the invalid one).
Here is the code for one of the text boxes.

The commented methods at the bottom are some of the other things ive tried to make this work. The txtLanIp.text.clear() is what ive tried from the beginning. I have also tried setting the text to "", I even created an empty string and set the .Text value to it but no matter what it wont remove that character. I have also tried various trim(), len(), Select() functions, most either give me an 'index out of range error', a 'length cannot be less than zero' error or a general ExceptionOutOfBounds error. I am just tearing my hair out as to why the simple way doesnt work, there is no logical reason why and it gives no error it just doesn't clear the box.
I have also tried moving the validation to a _LostFocus but e.KeyChar isnt a valid method or property for that declaration, which doesn't surprise me but I wanted to try everything.I dont see how it would matter in this case but I am running Windows XP Pro SP3, though I also see the same behavior in Windows 7 64 bit ultimate sp1 and windows 7 64 bit pro.
Trying to get it to behave like C#, where there is a Program class with a static Main method.However, in the project properties, I cannot set Program.vb to be the startup object, only the forms (it is a forms application).
View 2 RepliesIn my VS2010 VB project I have a lot of external references to DLLs, to the point that organization has become a major headache and I'm wondering if I am going about it the wrong way. My assembly references include common redistributables (SQL Server Compact 3.5 SP1, ReportViewer 2010 SP1, DataVisualization, as well as some useful 3rd party dlls from CodeProject and CodePlex.
Currently, I am copying each DLL into a 1st level folder (/dll_lib) under my named project folder (under the solution folder), and adding the reference from that path. However, I see that Visual Studio copies the DLLs to various other locations (/bin/debug or /bin/release) in my project when I build the project or solution, and some of the 3rd party DLLs come with instructions to copy them manually to /bin.
What is the "best practice" for where to put the DLLs? Can I just put all of them under /bin and let the build event copy to /bin/debug or /bin/release as required? Should I try to force a single reference path for the dlls in the project output?
If I create a windows app which I link to an MS Access databse file that already exists..will I need to have MS Office installed on every computer at which I want to use the app? If not then how do I go about making a standalone windows app that will store information in a database of some form or another ?

You drag any type of file onto the exe, and a window pops up with some options for the file, then it saves the file to a different location, works some SQL magic, etc. It works great for the most part. The only issue I've found is that if the path of the file contains any spaces, the application will crash immediately with the error window:[URl]..I'm using: Private filename as String = Command$ This is located right inside my form's class declaration, not within a sub/function.Without this line, my program runs fine (although useless, without accessing the file).I've also tried (I think this was it, I don't have the code with me at the moment): Private filename as String = Environment.CommandLine So, in vb.net, is there a way to drag a file onto an exe and use that path name, even if there are spaces in the path name?

Only problem is that there is no <B>Analyze</B> menu in the IDE.

The environment will not create a resource file for a newly created Windows Forms Application. When I add a button Visual Studio displays a dialog "File Exist". That'sall, plus an OK button. There is no file name or the file name is in unreadable characters.The dialog comes from Visual Studio because the title is "Microsoft Visual Studio".There is no resource file so it must be that the resource file cannot be created.I uninstalled and reinstalled Visual Studio 2008. It did not change anything.I believe the problem was caused by opening the same project rapidly twice on an i7 laptop. I have done this unintentionally before and I can testify that unpredictable
View 2 RepliesI wish to turn on the Single Instance Application choice in Visual Studio 2008 properties. To do so, I must choose "Enable Application Framework". When I do that, my ONLY choice is to choose a Startup Form, not a Startup object. This makes no sense to me. I have a tray application, and I check to see which form I should load, a logon form, or the main form. But since I am forced to choose a startup form, I MUST load the logon or main form to begin with. But I don't want to. I want startup code to determine which one to load first. So then I am playing with making the OTHER form invisible, even if the startup form, but that is a mess.
View 4 RepliesI created a new project. I copied files from the original VS 2008 project into the new VS 2010 an used "include" in VS 2010.I get an error saying "Error 108 Maximum number of errors has been exceeded."
It seems that EVERY field in the webformsuser-controlsASCX's has the error message "fieldName' is not a member of".I tried a delete the contents of the ASCX and ASCX.vb for a specific ASCX. Compiled and that page had no errors (although the other pages did). Copied back the contents ASCX and compiled (although the other pages did). That page had no errors. Added back the code-behind in the ASCX.vb and compiled. Same error.'fieldName' is not a member of They fieldName can be anything. Textboxes, hiddens, checkboxes, etc.
what am I doing wrong? I have spent hours on this I am hoping I am just missing something simple.
