When I use to do some Delphi programming you were able to define variable as a target for a comma delimited file and then under that give variable names for each field to fall into. I forget the syntax now but it looked something like this...
Using Getline as Record: RecordId = Integer RecordName = String RecordAddress = String;
I'm having a little trouble with this... I have a Session variable which contains a string of comma separated ID's which needs to be passed to a stored procedure but if it is more than 8000 characters, it needs to be split into more comma separated strings. For example;
What my problem is that, how can I load this .txt file to a datagrid and arrange it in a 3 columns. That .txt file is auto generated that's why i cannot do anything about the textfile.
i have code for loading a text file (comma separated) into my DGV:
If Not DataGridView1.LoadTextFile(TextBox1.Text, ErrorList) Then Dim sb As New System.Text.StringBuilder sb.AppendLine("Failed to load text file, see error messages below.")
[Code]....
I'm wondering...is it possible to run this code if the user was to drag and drop the text file onto the datagridview, rather than having to navigate via buttons etc...it'd make it a much nicer method!
This is my first 'serious' VB2008 project. Attempting to write a comma separated file. vis:
[Code]...
Is there a better method for outputing the data, rather than having to concatinate all the elements into a string and then writing it? In the 'good old VB6' days a Print statement followed by each value and a separator would do the trick. I can't seem to find the appropriate override for the WriteLine method.
I'm attempting to add comma delimited values to a combobox. The problem is I do not know if this is the best way to split the values into the combobox. Is there a more cleaner/efficient way to do this?:
Dim toread As String toread = ini.ReadValue("Schools", "Schools") Dim textdelimiter As String textdelimiter = "," Dim splitout = Split(toread, textdelimiter) Dim i As Integer For i = 0 To UBound(splitout) ComboBox1.Items.Add(splitout(i)) Next
I decided on a comma separated data file, saved as a text file. This is for data that will not change. After loading the data from the text file; then throughout the lifetime of the program the data can change. The data can then be saved back to a different binary file. The idea is to have a save state system going.Does anyone have a suggestion or is opposed to the idea. Is there a simpler way to organize something like this?
I'm trying to read a csv file with comma separated. Problem is inside the file, it has one column which original value already contains Comma. Here is the example
[Code]....
So, when I Split the string with Comma, it gave me problem. Actually total it has 6 columns. But because of internal comma, it gave me 7 columns. And this CSV format can't change so I must deal with this problem. And so here I come out with a solution (because of its too long, I looking for better idea and solutions from you guys ):
When I look at a file on my hard disk, e.g. test.csv, when I look at the Properties of the file, it is officially known as, "Microsoft Office Excel Comma Separated Values File", and file types of .pdf are listed as "Adobe Acrobat Document", etc. etc. All of this information can be seen in Windows Explorer too when my folders are displayed by Details. How do you get at this "type of file" information with .NET?
These is the content of my txt file which is saved in D drive in my pc abc,1,2,3..I tried the flowing but it didn't work:[code]I am getting error on this line.. data = line.Split(","c)...it says this line isn't in use anymore or something and that I rather use LineInput but thats asks for filenumber and i don't know what that is. I am sorry but I am a complete beginner. what else can I try? [code]ok that error is gone now but now if I want to add these values to a list box..how can i do that?
I recently asked a question about reading a file with Streamreader to variables arrays, but I made it more complicated than need be. Here is the simple version of what I am trying to do:
dim MyNumber(1) as String
strMyFile = 100,200 (I already have this)This is the result that I am trying to make happen:
MyNumber(0)=100 MyNumber(1) =200
I would also like the result to be MyNumber(0), MyNumber(1) as double, but I could do that in a later step. This is almost embarrassing to ask, because it is probably basic stuff.
I used a built in function to create comma separated string using List easily.(It is not split and join but new function) I'm not able to recollect or find it. If some one knows about it and uses it please post a link to that. Framework - .net 2.0
(It is not Join or split - I know about this, .net has new built in function to create CSV format)
Check Jacob G Answer below for what i was looking for let me know your thoughts on it compared to join ;)
And whoever gave me -ve rep need to keep some patience and not hurry
How could I have streamwriter write a , terminator for every space? For example if I have a line that reads "Hello World!" I would like streamwriter to write Hello , World
I'm trying to write two regex's - you'll need to tell me if they're even possible. Both are based on VB.net syntax.
Regex 1: The string I'm testing against - Size on disk: 25,754,900,936 bytes
It has a handful of leading spaces, but the text is ALWAYS the same. I'm trying to extract out just the number (25,754,900,936).
I've tried a handful of regex's, but I can't get everything on one line. The commas are messing me up and returning multiple matches (For example, d+W+ gives me four matches, one for each set of numbers separated by commas.)
The best I've done is [0-9/,]* but that gives me 25 empty matches and one match (On match 19) of the number. I need this to match on match 1.
I've got a variable which contains a string like: dim test as string
test="bjcbhiabab,1,1,50,0,1,telepathie2,1,60,0"
Now I need to seperate all those values (each seperated by a comma) into new variables let's say value1 to value9 What's the most easy to use coding for this? I haven't got a clue which coding to use for this :S
Now it seems like a really simple question and I may just be being thick, but what I'm trying to achieve is basically print an array to screen in the following format: Item 1, Item 2, Item 3, Item 4 Although I say to screen, as that was the best way I could describe it, I'm actually writing it to the page inside some Javascript. The way I'm currently going about writing it out is as follows:
I'm using String.Join to attempt to turn an array list into a string that is comma separated, such as "1,2,3,4". I can't seem to get the syntax working.
Here's what I'm trying:
Dim aryTest As New ArrayList() aryTest.Add("1") aryTest.Add("2") aryTest.Add("3")
I'm working on something relatively simple I am trying to create a dynamic amount of comma separated strings.I have a variable (numberOfStrings) which is the number of different strings I need.I just want to loop thru the aryDrivers and assign then to the different strings.Dim aryHeats(numberOfStrings - 1) As ArrayList
Dim aryDrivers() As String aryDrivers = txtBatch.Text.Split(",") For i As Integer = 0 To aryDrivers.Length - 1 For j As Integer = 0 To aryHeats.Length - 1 aryHeats(j).Add(aryDrivers(i) & ",") Next
I have 3 checkboxes and 1 textbox i use only these controls mentioned above ..I want ---- when i check checkbox1 and checkbox2 then it will display in textbox1 as 1,2 as it is as the same ascending order not 1,2, or 2,1,I use this type of coding in asp.net (VB) , i wanna use this coding for 45 checkboxes........
I am writing a code to search through the entire listbox items and highlight them whenever user enters text in textbox. I am looping through textbox items which are entered using a 'comma' . But the code fails to add it to selected indices when user types multiple items using comma. It works fine for single items.[code]
I am new to VB and need to make a program that does the following:Write a VB.Net program that allows users to enter a series of numbers(separated by a comma) in a text box called series. When the users clicks the command button called Average, the program extracts the number one by one from the series and calculates the average, and outputs the average onto a textbox called Result.I understand how to get it to do the average, but how can I make the program count the numbers that I input and then divided by the sum? Also, how would i get it started.
