Dec 4, 2009My program connects via the rs232 port to a pump and it managed to start the communication and sending data. But the problem arises when i try to read the return signal from the pump to pc. This is the piece of code i've used:

I obtain the following results:

From the manual i understand which byte to read. For e.g 6 = ACK. The problem is how to interpret the 4 bytes together in a string for e.g 0 0 0 92 means 9.2ml ?Is there any way to read the decimal point?

Jan 10, 2010I am trying to read a packet of data which has come in from RS232. I need to be monitoring the port until data comes in to be actioned. I have been doing this fine for some time using the following code:

The code above works without a problem unles byte 1 or two are greater than 127. Basically, all of the characters that are not converted seem to be 128-255.
I am using VB 2008 express. Clearly I need to read each byte individually and store it as a byte within an array instead of a string but i am not sure how to do this.
how to get around this either through reading bytes properly or through using a different encoding format
Read / Write Data From RS232 Port?
Aug 23, 2010I need to write and read data from a RS232 port. On the RS232 port there is a RFID Card reader-Writer connected. So I need to send hex codes to the device, and have to poll every 1sec if there is a card in the system. If there is a card I need to read the info that is on the card. My biggest problem is I think is that I am not sure how many characters there will be in return after the read command (maybe it is always the same length this I am not sure). What is the right way to read-write to the com port. So I always got the same result and not skipping a code.

Colum 3 is Sort Code and have the format 00-00-00, I want to change it to 000000 i.e., remove the dashes.

Now that I have upgraded to Office 2007 and vb.net 2010, I get a warning saying that the file is in a different format than specified by the file extension (.xls). Feb 27, 2009This code works well however when data is exported to excel in one field some values are wrong. Instead for example populating 16-12-19 it populates 43815, 01-03-99 it populates 36220. Again, if the sort code is like 20-72-68 or 60-01-22 it is populated the same way, which is correct. If the value is a date lookalike then this problem appears, but if not then the exact value as displayed on the grid is shown in excel.
I inserted the code (highlighted in red) to set all the fields as text values. Right, it is exported and when excel spreadsheet is opened the field property is text, but the problem still exists. Why doesn't excel display it as it is displayed on the datagrid and database, instead of changing it even when set text.

Feb 26, 2009I am working with Vb.net and this code below works fine. However, when I review the data exported to excel I have a problem with one particular field i.e., sort code. Sort code in the database is in the format 00-00-00. Therefore if it is 12-11-09 or 11-01-66, a look alike of a valid date it is disaplyed as 12/11/2009 and 11/01/1966 in excel after the export. Excel thinks its a date which is incorrect. I expect it to show 12-11-09 and 11-01-66.

Jun 17, 2009I'm using an xsl stylesheet to export data to excel. In the xsl file I have coded to put protection on the worksheet. When the excel file opens, if I check under Tools - Protection, it appears that the protection was set, but I am still allowed to select and update cells in the worksheet. If I turn the protection off and then turn it back on, it is applied as expected. Has anyone had this type of situation where the xsl sheet appears to be applied correctly, but the proctection that was applied doesn't work?
