Reference To Outlook: Create Contacts And Groups?

Jun 30, 2011

I created a vb.net application that reads a data file (SQL table) and creates contacts and groups from this data. If I run this application and point the Contact folder to my local Outlook folders, the application runs fine. It creates about 550 contact and 10 groups. My problem is when I go to run the application against a public folder that am the "owner" of with full permissions it will run fine until it hits items 250 and then I get a COM error.

.net - Don't Create Local Variable To Hold The Reference Of The Object?

Nov 17, 2010

How does the GC dispose objects created in the following 2 scenarios?

1)

Private Function DoSomething() As Boolean
Return New DatabaseManager().Insert()
End Function

2)

Private Function DoSomething() As Boolean
Dim mngr As New DatabaseManager()
Return mngr.Insert()
End Function

In Option 1, I don't create local variable to hold the reference of the object. In Option 2, I hold the reference in local variable.What option is better and why? (if any)

Create A New Battery From Scratch While Using The Old Code As A Reference Point?

May 13, 2012

I'm currently starting a new job in which I will be working on some coding in the future and need some advice on some good places to start so I can learn this correctly. Essentially we need to bring VB4 code over to the new VB.net language and I will be tasked with this. The project consists of a large battery of tests for psychiatric patients consisting of mostly multiple choice questions presented one at a time - since VB4 isn't very compatible, I think I will create a new battery from scratch while using the old code as a reference point.

I started creating the code this weekend for fun and am really enjoying it. However, a huge problem has been the abandonment of control arrays in the new language... by the time I got to creating my first questionnaire I'm stumped and can't follow the old code. Clearly I'm not ready to tackle such a large project with no experience and need to start from scratch; who would have thought .

The reason why I'm here is not to ask you to help me with my work. What I'm wondering is if any of you have any cool advice of great places to start learning the language (books, websites, etc). The amount of literature is very overwhelming so I thought I would ask some people with experience for tips. If any of you have stumbled across learning material with emphasis on coding that would be useful in the design of questionnaires or multiple choice exams, it would be particularly useful.

So far my starting place is Visual Basic 2010 Step by Step with Michael Halvorson, it seems good at a glance in the sense that it couples theory with practice but I'm already sure I'll need a little more.

Getting A Null Reference Exception W/program?

I'm also getting an "index out of range" exception, but it looks right to me...I declared everything with an 11 for 12 months, 0 to 11 for the intcount.

Include Reference Dll When Compiling Program?

Sep 14, 2008

I've made a program using Visual Basic Express Edition which references MySql.Data.dll (located at C:Program FilesMySQLMySQL Connector Net 5.2.3Binaries.NET 2.0MySql.Data.dll) which has been installed on my computer. But when I run my compiled program on a different computer (without MySQL Connector/.NET installed) I am unable to start the program as it gives me an error.

I'm wondering if there is a way to compile the dll with my program so that I wouldn't have to install MySQL Connector on the only computer it'll be executed on (I'm not sure if I have the privilege to install programs on it yet).Or is there a way I could import the dll at runtime which is located in the same directory as my .exe?

Add A Reference So That Oracle Database Can Connect To Program

Apr 25, 2011

Well for some reason when i try to add a reference so that the oracle database can connect to the VB.NET 2010 program.In other words it shouldn't highlight certain code as if the database is not connected.Here is a clear summery as best as i can say what the problem is.

1. Connection from Visual Studio 2010 to Oracle plus server
2. Adding References will not be allowed for some reason.
3. The code (See example below on what it might be) is still highlighted even when i added the references several times.

I'll show just a small snip of the code coz it's more or less the same on most of the forms if i want to either update, delete, add or amend to the database. I'll show a few screenshots so to be clearer.I've tried by even looking over the notes and followed step by step and nothing works.Since i am not registered in this module this time i can't seek help of the lecturer so don't bother telling me to go and ask my teacher I've pestered the supervisor that i'd have to present this project to and she hasn't replied to my email at all so i have no clue what else to do in the matter.

WH_CBT hook, as it appears can only intercept events for processes that have windows, but what if I want to intercept the start/stop of a windowless application or a windows service? Is there any way to do it using .NET?Generally, I want my application to receive a notification of some process being launched knowing only an executable name.Presently I simply use a timer to iterate through running processes, but I wonder if there a better way to do it?

Why Can't Hook Notepad On Vista 64

Nov 21, 2008

url...This example works on a my 32 bit XP machine, but it does not work on my Vista Ultimate 64 bit machine. The example is supposed to hook notepad so that whenever I type a character in notepad, a text box recieves the same character. This works on XP, but on Vista 64, nothing happens.I should probably say that when I first ported the example to Vista, I ran into 2 problems, which I think I correctly fixed.

1. I was getting a BadImageFormatException when the DLL was first trying to be accessed. I fixed this by setting the target platform in the VB project to be x86.

2. I was getting a DllNotFoundExeception, so I placed the "MainHook.dll" file in both:[code]I have a couple of theories, but I'm a bit of a beginner when it comes to hooking. Could this be happening because Notepad is a 64 bit application and the hook is written in 32 bit? I have the express version of VC++, so I can't create a dll targetted to 64 bit, so I haven't tried that.
