e.Graphics.DrawEllipse(Pens.Blue, cpoint.ObjectPoint, 0.4, 0.4)

VS 2010 Proper Regular Expression (Regex) Pattern?

Apr 24, 2012

It seems up until now I've never used Regex, nor even heard of it. But once I did I realized how extremely useful this is. Having said, it's been 2 days since I've began looking into constructing my own patterns. My most recent being for decimals. Is the pattern I provided below "proper"? and are there also any improvements I could be making for a more efficient patter, which would minimize any possibility of a loophole? [code] So for my use, this is doing what it's supposed to being doing under every test I can through at it. But do mind the 0. and .0, I have a function to normalize these as they are proper, I just pad the left and right accordingly. I found most regex questions asked here..and yes I am doing this in vb.net so it fits. If not, then feel free to move this post somewhere else better suited for the topic of discussion.

Regex - .net Regular Expression To Match Two Words Separated By Comma Not Working?

Regex - Separating Text From Numbers Using Regular Expressions?

Nov 7, 2010

I'm having trouble parsing some text. Here's an example of the text:

201 BBQ 0.000 9.000 0.099 0.891 9.000 0.000 0.000 0.000
705 W 1 PC 0.000 135.000 0.295 39.825 0.000 0.000 135.000 0.000
2106 ONL 9.99 41.141 3.000 4.110 12.330 3.000 0.000 0.000 29.970

Here's the latest incarnation of the code I've been trying:

objInfo = System.Text.RegularExpressions.Regex.Split(
newLine,"(d{3,5})|([0-9]+[.]+[0-9]+)|(w*)")

I'm having trouble because I'm avoiding getting many blank spaces in the array after splitting. I'm trying to avoid using the optional | character but I get no results when I set it up without it!

I've spent much of the evening reviewing regular expressions and I've downloaded the following programs:

RegEx Designer.NET
Antix RegEx Tester
Expresso

I'm having trouble because the description contains a decimal point SOMETIMES and sometimes it doesn't. The description sometimes contains a whole number sometimes it doesn't.My friend recommended I use awk to divide it into columns. The thing is...I teach a Community Education class with Visual Basic .Net and I need to improve my RegEx skills.

Regex - Mass Search And Replace With Wildcards Or Reg Expression MyString.Length To Len(MyString)

Oct 14, 2010

I have a large ASP.NET project where I want to do a mass search and replace (about 3500 instances)

I want to change

If strErrorMessage.Length > 0
If strSomeString.Length > 0
If strWhatever.Length > 0

and any other similar call to the Length method from a string to the following

If Len(strErrorMessage) > 0
If Len(strSomeString) > 0
If Len(strWhatever) > 0

Anyway to reliably do this in one shot?

I can do a search and replace for something like If *.Length > 0 --> If Len(*) > 0

This just won't work though as it won't understand how to rearrange it properly. Currently have VS2010 and N++ at my disposal.

C# - Understanding Floating Point Limitations In Calculations

Jan 12, 2011

How to determine when floating point limitations will cause errors in your calculations. For example the following code.
CalculateTotalTax = function (TaxRate, TaxFreePrice) {
return ((parseFloat(TaxFreePrice) / 100) * parseFloat(TaxRate)).toFixed(4);
};

I have been unable to input any two values that have caused for me an incorrect result for this method. If I remove the toFixed(4) I can infact see where the calculations start to lose accuracy (somewhere around the 6th decimal place). Having said that though, my understanding of floats is that even small numbers can sometimes fail to be represented or have I misunderstood and can 4 decimal places (for example) always be represented accurately.

MSDN explains floats as such... This means they cannot hold an exact representation of any quantity that is not a binary fraction (of the form k / (2 ^ n) where k and n are integers). Now I assume this applies to all floats (inlcuding those used in javascript). How can one determine if any specific method will be vulnerable to errors in floating point operations, at what precision will those errors materialize and what inputs will be required to produce those errors?

Floating Point - Displaying A Decimal With A Given Maximum Length?

Apr 28, 2010

I am writing a custom totaling method for a grid view. I am totaling fairly large numbers so I'd like to use a decimal to get the total. The problem is I need to control the maximum length of the total number. To solve this problem I started using float but it doesn't seem to support large enough numbers, I get this in the totals column(1.551538E+07). So is there some formating string I can use in .ToString() to guarentee that I never get more then X characters in the total field? Keep in mind I'm totaling integers and decimals.

Concatenating A Variable With A Regex Group Match In Regex.replace?

Apr 5, 2012

I am having an issue where I am using regex.Replace to replace part of a string. The basic idea is that I want to capture the beginning of the string then replace the end of the string with a value from code. For an example pretend I have a string that says "Test Number " followed by number and I want to increment that number. I capture the "Test Number " but when I try to concatenate that capture with the new number it treats the capture ($1) as a literal and replaces the entire string with $1[new number].

[code]...

This will output "We are on Test Number 2", as expected. how I can use a variable in the replacement string portion of the Regex.Replace when including a captured group?
