Regular Expression - Valid Filename Check?

Jun 18, 2009

See subject of positing for question.
1) I recall seeing a really cool option in VB.NET using LINQ to match using "LIKE%'
2) I know regular expressions will work and I suspect that will result in the shortest code and probably won't be too hard to read for such a simple test.

Here's what I did.
Private Shared Function FileNameIsOk(ByVal fileName As String) As Boolean
For Position As Integer = 0 To fileName.Length - 1
Dim Character As String = fileName.Substring(Position, 1).ToUpper
Dim AsciiCharacter As Integer = Asc(Character)
Select Case True
.....

Regular Expression - Match Domain In URI

Jan 8, 2011

How can I match the domain part only of a URI with regular expressions? I see lots of examples but the mutch the subdomain too. What I am looking to do is to capture only the domain. So, for example should match only google. As a secondary question, I am looking to implement this on a VB.NET program. Would there be some other way to do it without regular expressions?

Regex - .net Regular Expression To Match Two Words Separated By Comma Not Working?

Mar 4, 2010

I am pretty good with perl regular expressions but evidently I am at a loss on why this doesn't work. The code below stores "Person Test" in output variable.

im output As String
Dim userName As String = "Test, Person"
Dim re As New Regex("(w+),s(w+)", RegexOptions.Singleline)
output = re.Replace(userName, "$2 $1")

So why doesn't the following code store "#Test##Person#" in output variable.

Dim output As String
Dim userName As String = "Test, Person"
Dim re As New Regex("(w+),s(w+)")
For Each Match As Match In re.Matches(userName)
output &= "#" & Match.ToString & "#"

C# - Regular Expression To Validate Time Format

Jul 15, 2011

I need to validate user input in some fields, where these are defining how to show time in some views.

Requirements: Time format must be expressed in Microsoft .NET way (check this MSDN Library article if you want to learn more about framework's date and time formatting: . Keep in mind I'm looking to validate the format instead of an actual time string.

For example, user may input:
HH:mm
hh:mm
ss
hh:ss
mm:ss
... and so on.

In fact, it should validate from the shortest to longest time format available. Another point is I need to do it in client-side using JavaScript. In other words, any given regular expression by you should work in browsers JavaScript regular expressions' engine. I can't use ASP.NET validation engine, or any other. Because of project's requirements, I need to avoid that.

C# - Regular Expression To Define Format Of Backup Filenames

Oct 1, 2009

In the application I am currently working on, I have an option to create automatic backups of a certain file on the hard disk. What I would like to do is offer the user the possibility to configure the name of the file and its extension.

For example, the backup filename could be something like : "backup_month_year_username.bak". I had the idea to save the format in the form of a regular expression. For the example above, the regexp would look like :

"^backup_(?<Month>d{2})_(?<Year>d{2})_(?<Username>w).(?<extension>bak)$"

I thought about using regex because I will also have to browse through the directory of backuped files to delete those older than a certain date. The main trouble I have now is how to create a filename using the regex. In a way I should replace the tags with the information. I could do that using regex.replace and another regex, but I feel it's a big weird doing that and it might be a better way.

[Edit] Maybe I wasn't really clear in the first go, but the idea is of course that the user (in this case an admin that will know regex syntax) will have the possibility to modify the form of the filename, that's all the idea behind it[/Edit]

Format DataColumn Values In DataView.Filter Expression?

Jun 11, 2012

I am trying to build a filter string for my DataView, but I have run into a problem. My underlying DataTable contains values that are formatted when displayed in my DataGridView. For example, if the DataColumn contains 1.52 and the DataGridViewColumn.DefaultCellStyle.Format = "n0" then 2 is displayed. So the user sees 2, then sets the DataView.RowFilter = "DataColumn = 2", and no DataRows are returned. Is there a way to format the DataColumn in the RowFilter string? For example, DataView.RowFilter = "FORMAT(DataColumn, "n0") IN (2, 4)". This filter string should return 3 rows. If not, can LINQ do this?

.net - Regular Expression Works In VB But Not C#

I can get it to work in VB.NET but not C#. I can't figure out why it works in one but not the other.

As far as I can tell the patterns are identical in both languages with escaping. When I run the VB code I get a match. When I run the C# code I get nothing.

C# - How Optimise The Regular Expression

I have just coded the below regular expression. I have a mini rich text editor on a web page (very similar to the one I am using to post this question) and I want to make use of a double asterisk to indicate which words/phrases should be wrapped in a strong tag. The aim is to allow the user to add pre-defined HTML elements without actually having to submit HTML.
