I am creating grid on form load event. Initially I am setting some values in datagridview combobox as :

when your resetting a form is it possible to deselect or not keep high lighted the item that was previously selected from the last entry. I know how to clear the text boxes but the items in the list boxes stay highlighted. Is it possible to get back to the initial setting of having nothing selected as when you first start debugging?

It works great and returns my data, but when I switch to a different query that returns different columns, the DataGridView keeps the old columns from the previous query and adds the new columns from the new query to the end (far right) of the DataGridView. Is there a way to counter this? I don't want those previous unused columns showing up in my results. I tried setting the DataGridView DataSource and DataMember to Nothing and that didn't fix it.

View 2 RepliesI'm using Visual Basic 2008 in Windows 7. I've added a datasource to my project and dragged an element, a sort query, from Data Sources onto my form. It automatically created a DataViewGrid and placed this statement in my form load event: Me.SortBillsTableAdapter.Fill(Me.DoBills_2009DataS et.sortBills). The datagrid view shows all the fields/columns. When I preview the data element from right clicking the element, selecting Preview Data, and click Preview in the Preview Data dialog box, the data appears. But it does not appear when I run the app. The datagridview is empty. What am I missing to get the data to display in the grid at run time? I did notice that in the properties for the dataviewgrid the databindings property is empty. Is that right or am I supposed to do something there?

The DataGridView shows all the correct fields/columns. The .DataSource property for the DataGridView is set to the automatically created BillsBindingSource. When I preview the BillsTableAdapter, the data appears. But data does not appear when I run the app. The datagridview is empty. When I build the app and run the executable, I get a Microsoft .NET Framework error message that says: "Unhandled exception has occurred in your application. If you click continue, the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue. If you click Quit, the applicaiton will close immediately. The 'Microsoft .ACE.OELDB.12.0' provider is not registered on the local machine." If I click "Continue" I get my form with an empty DataGridView. What am I missing to get the data to display in the grid at run time? Oh, and I've also tried using the DataGridView in C# and I get the same problem.
is there a way to set a single cell as a combo box? it looks to me that you can only set the whole column.

I have a project that currently uses an XML config file to create some groups. Based on these groups, you can search a database for information. What I want to do is create a form for editing that file. I can get to the information via messagebox, but when putting it into a ComboBox, I can't get the list updated. I have tried the text property which only populates the initial selection, and the Items is a read-only property. Nothing else looks close to what I want to do.
My other thought is to populate a datatable with the information and then populate the combo box from the database. It seems like an extra step that I shouldn't need, but it may be the only option right now.
The reason it can't be hardcoded is that the XML config file is already being used by a program, and the file may be updated from two or three computers, meaning I need a central location for the file.
I am working with Vb.net and have a form with a combo Box. On load the form is loaded with one of the following details depending on what is stored in the database; Cancelled, Processed and Failed.

Then I have an update button and when the user drops down the list he/she can select between Cancelled/Processed/Failed. I want to be able to grey out or disable Processed and Failed, so that when the user updates the field he/she can ONLY update with the Cancelled option ONLY.

View 7 RepliesI created a data grid view from the datasources list and converted 1 of the columns into a combo box. Unfortunately, the combo box isn't acting like a proper combo box. When I start typing, the combo box does not display the characters I have entered. All it does is begin looking for the entry that matches what I am typing.
This is no good for my purposes, the user needs to be able to see what they have typed. Is this how it works when in a grid? I have tried playing with a lot of the column options but nothing makes it work correctly.

View 1 RepliesI have 5 combo boxes that need to show the same list of items that come from a single dataset table. I have managed to bind the datatable to the combo boxes no problem at all.. but when I run the application and select an item from one of the combo boxes all the others change to the item I selected. After some research I believe that this problem is something to do with using the one datasource so I have tried assigning the dataset datatable to 2 different variables and used them as datasources for 2 of the comboboxes but the same still happens.
A work around to this I can see is to call the same methods and SQL select statements 5 times over to get individual datasources for each combo box but this doing that sounds crazy to me. how I can get around this easily? Code snippet below shows 2 combox boxes and their datasources. I'm using VS2005, .Net 2

Below is the code to create a single Editable ComboBox column in a DataGridView on a form. I believe I have follwed the instructions to allow the user to input new values other than those in the list, however if you create a new project and add a button and a DataGridView control onto the form, then copy and paste this code and run the program, you will find that you cannot type any character in the edit box other then characters that exist in the list and only 1 character will be displayed at a time. I have set the Autocomplete value to 'False' and setting it to 'True' at least allows me to type more than 1 character but still not any strings that don't exist in the list.You can even remark out or not use the entire Call Validating sub routine to see the issue of not being able to type in the cell. I have a combo box with a data source. This box shows one column of a table and allows me to select one item.Next, I have an ordinary text LABEL that I need to put text from another column of the item selected above.I tried to set the data binding field of the label, but this grabs only the first row or data and shows the selected column. That is nice, but I can not figure out how to update the selected selected ROW when the combo box item is changed.In this case the combo box lists a bunch of inventory parts. When I select a specific part, I need the change the text in a label to show the manufacturer. (like a sub-form). This same behavior will be used in several other places, but the relationships can cascade.

I am building a simple GUI to view data within a database. I am getting stuck when it comes to filtering data. I have followed Beth Massi's video entitled How Do I: Filter data on the client?
However my datagridview will not filter, it simply moves the highlighted cell down to the location of the item selected in the combo box. The items in the combo box are also repeated as opposed to grouped by what they they are called, for instance I have a column called region and every cell contains the text "West" and the combo box just shows a list of all the cells as opposed to just one.I followed the video several times and every time this happens. Even with a new project. Could it be because my data isnt a table but a query of several tables? I can filter on this data in excel and access easily.
