I am a student and trying to start a programming career, my colleague asked me to make a multi tier or multi client desktop application for the schedule tracking using xml as a database; however the desktop application would be deployed in one or more computers but my leader can monitor the info from her office in addition she wanted me to put administrative privilege to avoid unauthorized access in some database features of the system. an info regarding multi-client desktop app.
View 3 RepliesI do have Visual VB.NET 2008 Express installed, SQL Server 2005 express installed, and I do know how to start a brand new project in VB.NET, and then add the database to the solution explorer, modify the tables/fields, etc. I know how to create a WinForm, add some controls (and name them and whatnot).....
So in MS Access I know how to use VB in the Code-Behind-Form to use the form in an unbound manner, and insert data into the tables via Visual Basic with SQL statements. I am looking to be able to begin the same sort of thing here, because I guess I have to start somewhere?
i keep on getting SqlException was unhandled incorrect syntax near '+'.i cant seen to see whats wrong with my code.i hope someone can help me solve this code.[code]

View 7 Replieshow to create a client/server... But I couldn't... I don't want anything fancy. Just want the client to send the server 4 numbers, depending on the user's choice; after that, the server would turn off the pc, restart it, etc. It all depends on the number received. Is there a rather "simple" way to do it? If it's not to much trouble you could use Atheist's example. (Btw I don't understand the code and, yes, I've checked on [URL])

As soon as the device recieves the input string it will respond back with response data. My problem is i am not getting the entire response data back from the server. (device).

Im a beginner at vb.net, and just wanna ask if it is possible to make a vb.net app/client app that can connect to a database on an online web server???The app is locally on the client computer and the database is uploaded on the web server/host together with its website.

I'm creating a VB2010 application which will require a connection to MSSQL. Should I Install SQL 2008 on my computer then use MS SQL 2008 as my data source or skip installing SQL 2008 and use MDF instead?
Also the program must have the following requirement
Program must use SQL as their database source End user must not install SQL server on their machine Program must be able to update (sync) the local SQL database from SQL server on the web. (User will have option to delete everything on their local database and load everything fresh from the server or to merge the update with existing data) Programs will (most of the time) run in an offline environment. When the user have access to internet they can update the database The program must allow user to add, edit, delete their local database while offline Only certain user (authorized user) can update their local database back to the serverC
Is it possible to created a program that meets all the above requirement ?
I would like to create a server program that accesses an "ms access" database. I will also need a client program that connects to the server. The reason for this is that the server is a mediator for several clients. Since I am using access, I plan on maybe having 20 or 30 clients connect to the server only. The client will have access to a virtual market. So when a person buys or sells something on the market, the server mediates the transaction and etc. At the same time, the access database saves each clients data as well as the overall market data.

I have programmed a chat application in VB but as soon as I send any data from a client the server will send it to all. It should send a reply only to a particular client. This is the function I have used.
[Code]...
I've been working on this project for about a year now. It's a basic clientserver chat program. After a long time of improvement, I decided to test out the strength of my server.
On the client, I fired off 200 chat messages ("FLOOD# 1"... "FLOOD# 200") to the server as fast as possible. The result: Server immediately crashes. After some slight tampering, I was able to get the server to process 135 of the 200 messages before giving up. It no longer crashes, but something different happens. The data from the client is received in order, but when I pass that message to a function (myForm.OnLineReceived), The data is completely out of order. If I add a slight delay between the calling of the OnLineRecieved function, The messages are in perfect order.
Each message from the client is first encrypted, then encoded in base64. An "-" is appended to the end so that the server can easily find the end of each data "packet".
Server Code:
Imports System.Net.Sockets
Imports System.Text
' The UserConnection class encapsulates the functionality of a TcpClient connection
' with streaming for a single user.

basically i just want client to say "C: emp" ENTER
then, server must reply with all its files in c: emp
I wrote a program in VB2005. It is a program that is supposed to run in a client computer accessing an MS Access .mdb file stored in the server. The program itself is stored and run in the clients computer. I am not good in networking at all. The way I do it now is:
1. Have a directory made in the server to hold the MS Access .mdb file, and have the directory to be shared.
2. Have the same directory accessed and mapped in the client computer (say to Z:)
3. Then have the program in the client computer simply access the database as if it is in the same computer (as the directory already mapped into the client computer). In the VB 2005, this is done when we set the connection string of the database connection.
However, my user is complaining that by doing so, the database is basically exposed to the operator of the client computer (through the mapped directory), hence more vunerable for any bad intentions from persons who may have access to the client computer but not the server. He insists that he used to have a program that does exactly the same thing like my program, but the database is shielded in the server, where it cannot be seen in the client computer (I have other people who confirm that this can be done, though they can't tell me how, since they are not programmers themselves). Now, I have no idea on how to connect a database that way, and I don't even know where to start looking.
I'm developing a project.
I wanted to connect client software to sql server 2008 database and server for now is Windows 7.
I created an account Named Test with pass=1 on the windows 7 (server) and it's admin account
My Connection string on the client is this:
server=ip of server;database=dbName;uid=Test;pwd=1;
1-Is it neccessary to install sql server on the client?
2-When I want to connect it says: Login failed for the user Test.
The problem I have is: When I click on cmdListen in the server form and cmdConnect in the client form, both programs won't respond and they crash for some reason I don't know.
Client source code:
Code:
Imports System.Net.Sockets
Imports System.Text
Public Class Form1

I need to encrypt some basic data being sent from server to client.
I was going to open a file in bytes, convert it to chrs (Modify odd numbers by adding 2 and even numbers by adding 3) then use Base 32 (Triacontakaidecimal) or Base 16 (although base 16 will occupy twice the space). Convert the data back to bytes and after do the same with the decryptor.
About using base 32, is there some sort of class in vb.net or maybe an api?
I developed a simple examination system with registration forms. I used VB.Net as the programming language. I haven't tried manual coding for my problem yet.Anyway this is a project for the company from which I am an intern. The plan is to get every client pc to have this examination/registration application and this application will send the personal info and the score to a central database(server pc).I used MySql as the dbms and developed the application on the same machine which means that the Database server I used is only on the local host.
Now I was about to try to implement the application to one client pc(as a beta test) and installed the necessary files(.net framework) and I also installed MySQL Server(and workbench) in the server pc.When I run the application in the client PC it didn't detect/connect to the ServerPC's MySQL server instance and therefore was not able to record the dummy values I input in the client application. Take note I changed the connection string of my app to point to the ip address of the serverPC.
Should I install the MySQL Server(and Workbench) to every ClientPC so that I can create a server instance that uses the REMOTE HOST option and configure it such that it will connect to the SERVERPC's Database? How should I setup the server so it gives access to the application I installed in all clientPCs?

And when the scheduled time (e.g 1 hour) is done, the client computers where automatically shutdown like the Time Logger Softwares
