I am pulling the computer model from the bios, the passing the result into some SQL to find it in a table (as the bios name, and the names in the database are different).If it exist, it writes the value from the database to a combo box (cbModelBios)I am trying to debug the case where the computer model does not exist in the table.I figured I would just try to see if the SQL statement returned null, but I am still getting an error [code]

I am currently updating an application I wrote to view Car Insurance Policies, using a backed SQL database and a front end vb.net GUI. I now need to make a change.
I haev added a new table which has all Active Policies, and i have the old table with every policy there has been active or not. We do an import from a separate company, and there is no Active/Not Active field.

I made some progress and I am succesfully reading in reading in two columns of data to my DataGridView but now I am stuck. I have to search the first column for a particular number the read in that row and put the data in a variable to use, how do I search through this data?

I am having to create a data adapter to pull data into a dataset, then loop through that dataset in order to add information into a new column from a separate data source. My first data source is access. My second data source is oracle. Here is the code I have to do this, which works well when I show it in a grid.

how I can search through this data table. For instance, I want to see only rows that are in this data table that have "Replace" somewhere in the "Description" field, which is the field I added from my second data source. How do I do this? Is there an easier way to do all this instead of filling my dataset from the first source and then adding columns from the second source by looping?

I need to search for a particular city and have it display the city name and the other three columns of data for that row in particular text boxes. I got a problem I need to search by First Name OR Surname. So the user can enter one or the other or BOTH.
So here's what I got I set two primary keys to try and find the row but I'm gettin all sorts of problems, for example when I set FirstName & Surname as primary key which you need to do to use the find method i get an error as it expects two values..

I have a data table whose one column is related to a column of another table. I have a listbox in a form which shows a column (which is sorted by another column value by ORDER clause) of the parent table and other columns are in textboxes. The child table is represented by a datagrid. When I add a new item in parent table and click save, the newly created item is listed at the bottom of the listbox violating my ORDER clause. I am doing an assignment for class and it is searching an SQL Database file. On the GUI I have a text box and a button to search this database. I have an object that I'm instantiating in VB.NET. I'm trying to see if it's storing a particular value somewhere in it. If I look at the object in the watch window in the VS 2010 IDE, I see this huge tree structure with thousands of nodes, many layers deep.
I'd like to be able to search for a value "1234" in this huge tree structure. I tried using serialization to convert the object to xml, but it complains that it doesn't have a parameterless constructor, since this object is provided by a third party, I can't add a parameterless constructor.Is there any way that I can search this object? Is there anyway that I can convert the tree structure that I see in the vs 2010 watch window to an xml document, or a string?

I am learning about the search capability in an array. I wrote a code that stores three names (first & last) and I want to:
- Make the user select a number (from 1-3) by using a (combobox)
- If the user select the proper number then a message will appear that the name is there.
- If not then an error message will appear.
