I have a small application shared by 5 users. The application uses an Access 2007 database located on a local network server. My question is: Whenever a user logs into I save it's connection status on a table. When using OleDb is there a way of getting something like a unique "session id" for the user logging in?

Do I need to create a blank view page named Ipn or what ever the Ipn action name is?? In this view would It need to contain any razor syntax? I have been back and fourth over every single post I could find about IPN but there is nothing for MVC 3 vb.net.. This has been edited... I have got the IPN handler reutrning status 200. On startup of my software which i developed in vb.net, it connects to mssql server. I want to have session id or session number of the connection with mssql. I'm sure it is unique number and i want to use this session in my software for different purposes. My question is
1. is there anything like session id or session unique number when you connection mssql server
2. if yes to 1 then how i can get it in vb

I am using visual basic ADO reference to connect to Teradata database. In the code I hold the metadata in the volatile table, However after fixed number of SQL execution statements the session changes thus erasing all the data of the previous session stored as volatile tables. Is there a way to keep the session same during the execution of the code.

View 4 RepliesI have an MVC application which sets some session variables based on internal static IP addresses.I have built an ApplicationController to override the OnActionExecuted sub in MVC for data that I need to use throughout my application.However, the code below, which is just a snippet of my code but is edited for my post, only partially works. On initial page load, the session variables aren't saved, but after a page refresh they are. The issue I have is that these need to be saved on the initial page load.

Theoretically, if I'm correct, if there is no Session("Item1") set/if Session("Item1") is empty, then the rest of the snippet should run and set those variables.How come this isn't setting those variables on the first time the page load?
I have a problem when trying to detect the computers network connection status.
Here is the code I have used:

I am developing an application with VB using the MySQL Connector Net [URL]. Now each time I go to load data in to a datagridview or in to text boxes on a form, I have to provide something along the lines of:

I think it would be better to leave the connection open to the MySQL database while the application is in use. That way I can just continue to execute queries of inserting and updating, without having the delay of the application having to reconnect. Is there a way where I can create some sort of background task in the application that monitors every few seconds that the connection is still active, and if not it tries to reconnect until its reconnected? I am trying to have it so that then I can code it to just do queries, and when the connection breaks - it disables the form until it is reconnected.
im trying to detect if the connection is still active upon trying to send or receive anything. Now I have checks in place if it's connected then it will send or receive however... it's saying it's connected when it is not connected... and therefore my program tries to send and receive and errors.
I am determining if it is ok to send and receive by using the Socket.Poll(-1, SelectMode.SelectWrite)
if it's true then im connected and data can be passed..This seems to always be true until I send something and it fails..How can I catch the socket not being connected before it fails upon sending or receiving?

Is there a way to do a Session.Abandon() when the user just kills the session by X'ing out with the little red X box in the upper right corner? I am seeing situations where after an "X out", the user comes back in and it seems like session variables are still present? I guess explorer keeps them intact? (I am unsure of this).

I keep a Session variable when the user is logged in. So that when the user click on btnLogout it must clear all my sessions and Log the User out for GOOD!!!
It does clear my sessions but if i click the BACK button in IE right after i logged out then i am still logged in! Meaning it goes back to screen where the user was still logged into.

I have added Two Factor Authentication to my Mobile ASP.Net Web App. When the user successfully enters their User Name and Password then a pin number is emailed to their email address which is stored in the database. My question is: I have a default.aspx and a master page, how can I redirect the user when their session is active? For example, the default page tells users that access is forbidden untill the login/register.Do I have to use the form load handler for default.aspx or the masterpages' load handler? I have a data logging application that stores data in a table in a MySQL database. Data with a TimeStamp is logged into the table anytime the data from the sensor changes. This means that there maybe 2 seconds between data points or there maybe 20 seconds between points depending on how the data is changing.
When I need the data I have 2 dates and use this command to fill a table..SELECT FROM myTable WHERE timeStamp > date1 AND timeStamp < date2 This gets all the data that has a TimeStamp between the given dates, but in most case the first date in the returned table will be after date1, so I need to get the data from one row before the date returned in the table to know what the data was at date1.How can I get the data row that immediately precedes the returned data set?
