The main problem is when I try to type code for Visual Basic 2005 onto my new Windows 7 computer ( using the Virtual XP set up) it is very slow. There is a big delay when I type a word and it appears.

The database is on a windows server 2008.
The query is a join between two tables and contains an ORDER BY.
The query execution is very slow.
If we remove the join or order by the query execution is fast.
Is there an incompatibility between Windows 7 and DAO 3.5 ?
On Windows 7 (UAC set to off), the Sendkeys.Send() runs as fast as windows XP when putting strings into Notepad (for example).

Or does anyone have a better way?I did have the idea of loading it by letting the user select the first letter and then only loading the ones that begin with that letter but I've got 4000-5000 'S' ones and it still takes about 2-3 minutes to load it All I want is to load the data from the database or the excel file and then put the products into 'cboProducts' and the 'cboProducts AutoCompleSourceList' and the descriptions into the 'txtDescriptions' AutoCompleteSourceList and a string array.Then when the user selects a product using 'cboProducts' the description will automatically be put into 'txtDescription'.
I have built an application using VB 2005 express edition with backend Ms Access 2000. In main form(which is loaded on startup), I am having 9 datagridviews, each bound with databindingsources. I am refreshing this data every 15 seconds by refilling the table adapters and updating the datagridviews.Now, this access database is shared in the network and is accessed by about 5-6 users concurrently. There are other forms which are used to edit the data.My problem is poor performance of the application. Its very slow in opening up forms, not responding sometimes and using the network resources fully.
View 5 RepliesFor some reason, .NET applications that I've written seem to have issues if they're launched when Windows starts (by being in the Startup folder for instance). An application that can finish in 3/10 of a second if one launches it normally may seriously take 45-90 seconds to finish if it was launched when Windows loads. Even if I just manually wait 30 seconds after login and launch the program, it'll complete virtually instantly while a copy launched at startup is still struggling along, so it isn't just that Windows is still loading...this continues AFTER that finishes and all HDD activity stops.Writing something to disk using an IO.anything goes at about 20KB/s during this event.

View 5 Repliesi have created some shareware applications. I implemented the following mechanism for piracy protection. Before Windows Vista and Windows 7 i did write a dll file to the System32 folder with an encrypted license key. Also in the Registry under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE i inserted a registry key.
The problem is that with Windows Vista and Windows 7 due to the User Account Control (UAC) this is denied.
I want to ask : what other mechanism can be implemented ? Where should i store the encrypted key file and the registry key.
I want that the application can be installed for all users of a computer only once.
If i stored the key in the user's application data directory then another user could easily just install it under another user account. Also i do not want to put the key file in the application directory because that would be too obvious.
note that i create the registry key with my application and not with the installer.
I have come across to develop an application for Windows 7.My program has one setting file and one LogFiles folder under the same folder as EXE. User will change some setting from Program and the values will update in this file. If there is an error, error detail will log in Logfiles/ todaydate.txt file.(Later I discovered/learnt that I should not edit/write the files to Program Files/sub folders.)So, now I'm trying to move these two files to another location. After searching a few on Net and I got the following result.[code]When I make Setup project for my application, I have to put the Setting file under one of these location.And what I found was, I only has a choice of "User's Application Data Folder" which is equivalent to My.Computer.FileSystem.SpecialDirectories.CurrentUserApplicationData.If i put Setting.ini file under this folder in Setup project, it gave me an warning of "File 'Setting.ini' should not be installed into a User's Profile folder because it may not be available to all users."
