Stop App From Command Prompt?
Feb 22, 2009Before posting this question I have carried out a few searches on this forum but I am afraid I am struggling because I am very new to Visual Basic and although I do have some programming background, yesterday was day 1 and I took a web tutorial and watched a few video tutorials. (Long way to go!).
OK to the question and I know I should really not ask 2 but It's better to get them both in one post I think.
I want to build a small utility to run a form in full screen to basically hide an old application running in the background.
My old application is a database (Non VB code) which works very well but while it batch exports a lot of data the software displays some pretty ugly windows, I want to call my VB utility from a command prompt with 1 or more switches to display some meaningful text about where it is in the routine.
I also want to be able to send a switch at the end to close it completly.
Q1 - What is the best way to manage command prompt switches ?
Q2 - How do I make it close itself ?

Sep 1, 2011(Using VB 2008 express). I'm fairly new to vb and I can't find any information on this anywhere. I have an app that clicks a download button on a web page from a web browser control. This works so far, a download box comes up asking whether I want to save or open the file. I want to be able to select the "Save" button and then chose a name and then click enter. Is there a simple way to tab over to the save button and click enter?

Jun 5, 2012When I click programmatically on a Download link in a webpage, IE 9 does not allow me to automatically download, I have to click on Open, Save or Cancel.
How can I make the selection (Open, Save or Cancel) programmatically?
At the moment I am using the sendkeys command, but, as we know, it is not reliable.
I also do not want to program a mouse click because it is cumbersome and because even in full screen one has to factor in the zoom factor.
I am using SHDocVw.InternetExplorer
The Webbrowser will also do.
How To Stop Download Once Started
Feb 4, 2011I created a form which,through the input of a URL via a textbox, downloads a file from the internet. For example I write in the textbox [URL] and after I hit the download button the software starts downloading the file (the progress is shown via a progress bar). What about if I want to stop the download before the download is over? How can I do it? What should I write in the "Stop" button?

Feb 26, 2009Alright, so I'm still working on the slot machine. I have three timers all independently going for my three "wheels" of the slot machine.
My issue, is that I'm trying to make a Stop button to stop each timer one at a time, and I'm not understanding why this code isn't working. The logic completely makes sense, and the first "wheel" stops when I click the button, however, it doesnt appear to stop the other two timers.

VS 2010 : Use A Stop Button To Stop A Loop?
Dec 7, 2009I created a form and have the variable inputs for 4 motor run statements. Then with a start button the script starts and it is surrounded by a for next statement to loop 10 times. It works fine but if i need to stop the execution of the script with a stop button. I put the stop in a new section but of course does not work to do a motor stop. It just causes the exe to not respond till the loop is complete. Just need to be able to stop the Run1_Click button section.
Edit:I do not mind if it finishes the 4 motor run commands and then stops execution of the loop. So need to figure out a way to trigger a stop from a button on the form to stop the cycle. For the future the loop will be a variable integer input so 10 will not be the standard.
Edit::Does a ' Do ' statement sound like the thing to use? If so how and where would I place that? Have a Stop button on the form and it would stop after the 4th motor run command.

VS 2010 Stop A Block Of Code Executing When User Clicks "Stop"?
Mar 1, 2011I have a START and STOP button and when the user clicks "start" the program does a whole bunch of calculations and all. However, I noticed that when I was testing the program I clicked STOP the program continues to execute stuff.
My START code is basically a while loop that iteratively does some calculations.
So I just put a boolean variable as the while condition and when user clicks stop its set to false and when user clicks start its set to true. However, when I click stop, the condition is set to false yes but it still executes all the code until the condition is re-evaluated right...so my question is how can I get out of the while loop when user instantly clicks "stop"?

Feb 4, 2010I want to download thousands of files from the web and save them locally. What is the most efficient way? It is important the failures timeout within 10 seconds.
Is there a better way to stream one stream into another? Maybe a smaller buffer, like 1024 bytes at a time, is more efficient for large files?
