I wrote a server for a tcp/ip chat program using the system.net.sockets class. When I run the program and the client tries to connect to it, there's an error and it won't work. I am positive that the issue isn't with the client, as I have made a connection with the client before.
Imports System.Net
Imports System.Net.Sockets
Imports System.IO
Public Class Form1
Dim server As New TcpListener(IPAddress.Any, 60)
Dim client As New TcpClient
[Code] .....
i have made a client and server chat system in VB 2008 with winsock,it's a one to one chat and works perfect fine, but do anyone know how to turn it into a multi-client chat system? Code in below: Here is the code for the server:
There are a series of web requests, database handling using php as well as using mysql connector. There are at most 5 timers in one window. some window has 3 or 2 timers as needed.Among some features there is a feature for chat. and I'm doing it with Remote mysql connection using mysql data connector.I'm not much familiar with VB.NET coding environment as well as with optimization issues. However made that app running with some problem, that is, when chatting, sometimes its not working smoothly sometimes stops for 4-5 secs then again responding. I'm not sure if this is happening because of timers. However a chat window has 2 timers of 1sec each.
I am making a java chat server, and a guy was able to connect to it no problem (however, he logged off for the night before I ran into any problems, so I couldn't see what he did). Here is my code on the VB form:
I am working on a chat client and server, and so far it works well, but when I close the client, the server throws an exception because it continues to try to do processes on the disconnected client. I have tried adding clientSocket.Close() in various places throughout the client and server with no luck. Does someone know how to add the disconnect code to either the server or client with this code?Server:
Event type clr20r3 p3 4a5c12c0 system.net.sockets.socket Exception and Application crash on some system. while running well on others. i go thorugh many forms and search a lot on google but not able to resolve the issue.
I'm trying con build a simple chat client/software (whole in on executable) wich start listen from the start on the port 5900 and when a client connect to that port the chat is established.
The problem is that only the client can chat to the server, the server cannot answer the client because the connection is working in one way.The i've tried to connect from "server" to the client when it establishes a connection but the system crash warning me that the port is already on use.
I want to create a tcp/ip chat system using vb.net. I have created using vb6 using winsocks but unfortunately I couldnt find it in VB 2005. I have discussed with some friends about it and they also couldnt do it. I like to try something I dont know in this way I learn more. I want to create the in such a way that the client and server both have an interface and the client and server both have port text-boxes and the client has the host text box and the connect button.
I have a chat program using System.Net.Sockets.Socket that works perfectly over LAN.My question is - will this same program work over the net with little or no modification and if so do i provide the client with the IP of my machine or of my router and use port forwardin
i'm creating an IRC server and I already have a few base classes complete like logging and Config. I was about to start with programming the socket class(es) when I realized that I have no idea how to make such a complicated socket system. I do not under any circumstance want to use any other code than my own since that would not help me learn sockets. I am familiar with a single connection socket system like most tutorials use.
I am using a RichTextBox control and a Socket Class. When I use the AppendText function in Form_load it get's added, but not in the event when text is received. Code: Private Sub Form1_Load(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Me.Load client.Connect(URL, PORT) RichTextBox1.AppendText("Connecting...") End Sub Private Sub client_onConnect() Handles client.onConnect [Code] ..... Just so you know, the MessageBox showing in Data is working perfectly.
im trying to detect if the connection is still active upon trying to send or receive anything. Now I have checks in place if it's connected then it will send or receive however... it's saying it's connected when it is not connected... and therefore my program tries to send and receive and errors.
I am determining if it is ok to send and receive by using the Socket.Poll(-1, SelectMode.SelectWrite)
if it's true then im connected and data can be passed..This seems to always be true until I send something and it fails..How can I catch the socket not being connected before it fails upon sending or receiving?
I am using the BeginConnect method of a socket to connect to a server which may or may not be on line I need to provide my users with a countdown timer which they can abort the attempted connection if they wish to The question is; how can I interrupt the Begin Connect method of an asyncronous connection
I Have a problem with vb.net. Basically I created an application that communicates via system.net.socket. on the server side of client connect, and a thread checks whether there are new incoming data. if there are data, puts them in a few tread declared variables, together with the "index" of the server. once this is done through "INVOKE" calls a routine that checks the incoming data andperforms an operation based on the data. I'll see what I do not work
Dim returndata As String = System.Text.Encoding.ASCII.GetString(data)
But that does not appear in the texbox, appears only "returndata", the rest c 'is same thing with the messagebox, individually, can display a messagebox with variable, but when I try to make a messagebox that displays them together, the texbox same thing!
And the same thing if I want to compare them with each other, for example
I have a chat/server system and when the text gets to a point were the scrollbar becomes active it dosnt go to the bottom it goes to the top. So say I was at the bottom of everyones text and than I write somthing it will shot me back to the top. My code is:TextBox1.Text &= vbCrLf & readData
I developed a chat application with an attendant chat server. Everything is working fine. The issue now is the fact that whenever the chat server goes down (for instance, the server system shuts down as a result of power failure or some other problem), by the time the server system come back on, the chat server would have to be restarted manually.
I believe (and I know) it is more appropriate for the chat server application to restart itself when the computer comes back on (and of course regardless of who is logged in and of course, even before anyone logs in). I have a batch file that executes the chat server. My attempt was to create a windows service that start automatically and runs this batch file using a Network Service account on the server system. Although, I'm having a hard time with this (temporarily), I would love to ask if there are any alternatives to using a windows service.
Is there a way to determine if a System.Net.Sockets.Socket has sent data that has not been received/read by a specified remote endpoint with a connectionless protocol? It never hurts to try.
I am in the process of prototyping a small sockets application, which monitors IT infrastructure (due to in-house financial and deployment restrictions, I am unable to utilise an existing commercial or open-source solution). Basically, I have a server application and associated agent process for communicating heart-beat data to the server. The server application implements a TCP socket class (TCPDevice), which is called from a WinForm. I am aware of the restriction on updating the UI from processes running on separate threads, and that the preferred technique for acheiving this is via the use of Delegates in conjunction with the Invoke method. Having had very little need previously for using Delegates (apart from of course std windows events and the BackGroundWorker control), I am at a loss as to how to do this in the context of my application, and would appreciate some assistance, although it has occurred to me that I could use the backgroundworker for marshalling updates to the UI.
Eventually the application will need to update a grid of devices via feeds from the defined agents, however for the purpose of this exercise simply updating a status bar on the UI will suffice. The section of the code which I believe is relevant to propogating the code to the form is contained in the OnDataReceived method.Below is a code excerpt from the protoype app which should put the above into appropriate context:
I get this: Base class 'System.Windows.Forms.Panel' specified for class 'MenuButton' cannot be different from the base class 'System.Windows.Forms.UserControl' of one of its other partial types.
I'm writing a GUI-based app in VB.net that talks to a LambdaMOO server via telnet, sends commands to display the object hierarchy, then parses the output and creates a visual representation of the object hierarchy. So my question is: is there some kind of "telnet client" class for .NET to simplify the sending and receiving of data, or do I have to write my own using the socket API?
I am trying to create a socket class in my project to send data to ecr (electronic cash register).Ecr comes with software that listens for commands on port 3535. Command are in forms of XML Files. It has only one catch, I must close the connection on socket, so the ecr would know when to process the command and respond. Since I only send one command at a time,I need the simplest solution I can get.
How it works:I create the socket and connect it to 192.168.1.67:3535 I start
client.BeginReceive
Then I send the command with
client.BeginSend
And I do a
client.Disconnect(True)
so I can get response from ECR.And in 8 of 10 times it works just fine. The problem is this few times it doesn't work.At that time I cant receive anything because it reports that the client is not connected in ReceiveCallback but it still manages to send the data to ECR just fine. The bill comes out on the ECR, but I get no answer about what happened.
I call the class like this:
Dim dre As New HCPSocket Result2 = dre.Otkucaj(Command1, "192.168.1.67") Debug.Print(Result2) dre = Nothing
End the class looks like this:
Imports System Imports System.Net Imports System.Net.Sockets
I'm trying to update an application from vb6 to vb.net. The orig app used the winsock control. Unfortunately I can't nor do I want to use it in the re-write. Are there any decent public classes with events that wrap the Socket class?
I am trying to write a program that has a server/listener program and then 2 client programs, the 2 client programs are supposed to be able to chat with each other. Can anyone point me in the right direction on this?
I have chose to create a text/voice/draw chat application. So far, I have gotten as far as creating a server application and a client application which can be run multiple times on the same mahine allowing each instance to communicate with on another.[code]...
I need a program that can send and receive msgs to everyone that's on that program and on that network, then is there a way to add chat rooms to the program 2. I looked all around the Internet and MSDN and found a lot of results but non worked property.
