Talk To A Byte-type Named Pipe Server?
May 22, 2011
I am writing a VB.net client to write to and read from a named pipe in byte transmission mode.I learned from the MSDN article that CallNamedPipe() only works for message-type named pipes.
So do I have other choices, or do I have to change the pipe server code to message type.

I have 2 applications that needs to talk to each others. After some research, I wanted to go with managed pipe (namespace system.io.pipes). The problem is, the client must send commands to the server but need to also wait for incoming message from the server at the same time. I tried to go asynchrone but it doesn't work.

On the "Return hashedDataBytes I get "Value of type '1-dimensional array of Byte' cannot be converted to 'Byte'"

I am trying to connect to SQL Server 2008 from my windows application using vb.net through named pipes.
I did some browsing and I found, to connect through named pipes we just have to mention "Initial Catalog =Test_DB; Data Source = np:Server_Name;integrated security=SSPI;".
But this doesn't connect to the server at all. Is this the right way to connect to sql sererver using named pipes?

I would like to get a list of sql server instances on a computer but need both default and named instances. In the post: [URL] the code works perfectly for finding the default instance of SQL Server but it doesn't show other running instances (named instances). On my development computer, SQL Server Express, SQL Server 2005 (both named instances) and SQL Server 2008 (default) are all running but express and 2005 don't appear in the combobox dropdown list.

The client/server communication will only take place in the same network.I can use TCP, but then I have to configure separate IP ports for every server instance. I can however simply use named pipes so I don't have to think about port numbers and simply use the name of the server instance. There will not be very frequent and/or large data client/server communication. It's some sort of a ERP application that will only communicate once per 30 seconds on average.

Long story short I made a form in VB.Net project which involves lots of icons and images. My problem is when I build my project, and then go back to that form, suddenly errors showed up.
The errors says : "The type 'MyProject.MyResources.Resources' has no property named 'myicon'". Just to be clear, it worked fine before I did the build, and it happened to every single images I have on Resource.
When I chose "Ignore and Continue" all of the images I used are gone. I tried to googled it, some says to delete my .exe file on Application/Bin/Debug folder, which is working. But this issue has been some kind of an annoying one, since it happens again every single time I build.

I has the following code in my vb.net:
Code: Dim sql2 As String = " SELECT * FROM Etiqa_Image_Details where TransmissionID='" & Request("id") & "' " With objDB.OpenDataReader(sql2) While .Read()
If .Item("ImageType") = "Invoice" Then imgInv.ImageUrl =
[code]....
However,i get this error while retrieving the image path(Varchar in sql server 2000) and display the image on the web.
Unable to cast object of type 'System.String' to type 'System.Byte[]'.
Actually in my database, i am just storing the image path where the image store...And now when I browsing the web, it should get the image path out and find the image through the image path and then display on the web....

I have populated a datatable from a SQL stored procedure and need to do further filtering on the datatable. The datatable holds data that is returned from the SQL DB as varbinary and is stored in the datatable as a byte array. I am attempting to pass TheData!Hash which is also a byte array.
When I need to filter the datatable I have use the following:
Dim sQuery0 As String = "Hash=" & TheData!Hash
Dim ResultRows As DataRow() = dt.Select(sQuery0)
I understand that the TheData!Hash is a byte array and cannot be converted to a string in this way but how on earth do I pass the byte array in the Select filter expression?

I'm a novice and after toying with some basic ideas on how to talk to a modem with VB.net, I think there may be much more to it than I realize. (?) I know my modem is fine, I can use hyperterminal to call out on it with no problem. So, how involved is it to talk to a modem? My initial thinking was that I could simply talk to it via a serial port using AT commands sent and rcvd as a string.(?)My modem is set up with COM2 9600 8n1.I've setup a serial port with the same parameters in my code.

Im needing to create a 2 applications that can talk to each other. One wil run on a server as the server application and others will run on workstations as clients. I want them to connect to the server app much like a chat program would work. I want to be able to send commands from the server to the workstations such as reboot, open this file, things like that. I also would like to be able to send the commands backwards to the server if needed as well. i think a chat program could be modified to do this by "watching" the message and if the word "reboot" comes through then the server/workstation would convert that to a command.

I use several different applications for analysis of pupil data. Each of these applications require similar or identical data but because they don't draw their information from the same sources there is often a need to enter this data more than once which obviously is a waste of time. Some of the data is accessed through the intranet via IE, other applications are standard Windows apps. I would like to create some sort of bridging application to allow data to be automatically shifted from one location to another but have no idea how to use one application to control another
With regard to getting data from the intranet, I have managed to write an application that can retrieve some (but not all) data off a particular page of HTML. It does this by searching the source HTML but some of the data that appears on the page isn't present in the source file. This is very frustrating because I can see it in the browser but can't seem to access it through my application.
