I have created a COM callable assembly which consists of an Interface, a single class which implements the interface. In this case the implementation is a single method.I have registered the assembly, created a type library and added the assembly to the GAC.I thought about opening an Office application like WORD or EXCEL 2003 and trying it from there but beyong referencing the COM assembly I have no idea how to code it.

I'm looking into adding some unit tests for some classes in my data access layer and I'm looking at an update routine that has no return value.It simply updates a row based on the id you provide at whichever column name you provide.Inside of this method, we collect the parameters and pass them to a helper routine which calls the stored procedure to update the table.Is there a recommended approach for how to do unit testing in such a scenario?

IUtilisateur
IGroupe
IUniteOrganisation
These interfaces are implemented in internal classes (Friend in VBNET), so that I want to implement a façade in order to instiate each of the interfaces with their internal classes. This will allow the architecture a better flexibility, etc.Now, I want to test these classes (Utilisateur, Groupe, UniteOrganisation) in a different project within the same solution. However, these classes are internal. I would like to be able to instantiate them without going through my façade, but only for these tests, nothing more.

I have a solution which contains among other things a project which is COM callable.
I would like to put some breakpoints into this and step through it but VS tells me "The breakpoint will not currently be hit".
how I can step into a com callable?
This is a dumb question, but I just cant find an answer. I want to do something as simple as this in IronPython, something I did in asp.net vb.net to capture the id of a table displayed in a gridview or datagrid

View 1 RepliesI need to create a DLL that's callable from C, that executes database queries and returns results. The first tool I reached for was VB, and I found it easy to create a DLL, but when I view the DLL using dumpbin /exports, I don't see any functions.
So, my questions:
1) Is VB the right tool for the job? If not, (The ideal solution would be a 3rd-party DLL that will let me do database queries -- a friendly higher-level wrapper above ODBC. I've searched around and come up empty, but maybe I haven't looked in the right place).
2) If VB is the right tool for the job, how do I export a class method so that it's callable as a function in a legacy C environment?
More details:
1) The target environment is Mercury Loadrunner VUGen. It's able to import DLLs and make function calls, but the environment is (non-.NET) legacy C.
2) My development environment is MS Visual Studio 2008

Unable to emit assembly: Referenced assembly AxInterop.MSFlexGridLib does not have a strong name Prior to this error appering, I tested my app several times and it was fine. I am loading an Assembly using Assembly.LoadFrom() as the assemblies are located in a different path from Application Base directory.

And I consume a Type from that assembly without any problem:

However, the problem occurs when I try to use a Type from this assembly from within another method like the one below:

sAssemblyName is the one I loaded using LoadFrom() actually. After it said it cannot find the assembly, I used AssemblyResolve event which solved my problem :Subscribing AssemblyResolve event :

And I thought maybe the error occurs because it cannot find a dependent assembly defined in assembly manifest file I loaded using LoadFrom() already but when I checked the args.Name, I saw it was trying to load same assembly and after that it worked without any problem. So basically a type in the loaded assembly cannot be found before the event adding change.
My old code was using AppDomain.CurrentDomain.Load() and Assembly.Load() methods and they were working fine without the AssemblyResolve event. I was able to reach types in dynamically loaded Assembly from every where within the same AppDomain.
LoadFrom() can find dependencies automatically within the same requested assembly path and that couldn't be problem as everything this dll needs was there. So at first it looked like a AppDomain problem to me as it looks like it seems it can reach assemblies from Load context instead of LoadFrom context and I am now using LoadFrom context.But now it seems I should pass oAssembly instance evertwhere to use any type from the loaded assembly?Doesn't it load the assembly where I can reach it everywhere (same AppDomain) using simple Type.GetType(...) method?
I'm wanting to include a system tray icon in my WPF project, and found this resource:[URL]..which looks like it will work beautifully, but it's written for C# and I'm using VB.net for this project. I downloaded his project and built the notifyicon as a DLL, then added as a reference to my project.
It throws up an error: Unable to emit assembly: Referenced assembly 'Hardcodet.Wpf.TaskbarNotification' does not have a strong name So I'm trying to figure out the best way to proceed. Do I need to strong name it, or is there a better way to do this?
I've got an exception when I deployed my application: "the located assembly's manifest does not match the assembly reference" What I remember is changing the project name from the previous source code, does it affect that much?
View 1 RepliesI have created several DLL (.NET) libraries that are used in several projects. In these DLL libraries I want to know/retrieve which assembly (EXE) calls/uses the library, so if possible I want to know info like assembly name (EXE), strong name, version number, etc.
NB: Examples may be in C# or VB. I use both languages.
I have written a .net assembly which plugs into to a third party COM application. The .net assembly is COM visible to the third party application. However this .net assembly references other regular assemblies. If I put these assemblies in the GAC the COM visibile assembly sees them without a problem. However for various reasons I do not want to put them into the GAC but I cannot get my COM visible assembly to see the other assemblies when they are in other locations. I have tried putting them in the same directory as the COM visible assembly. I have tried putting them in the same directory as the third party app's exe but neither of these work.

Since, it's possible for anyone to name an assembly starting with 'System', checking for 'System' is not a satisfactory solution.
Alternatively, if that's not possible, how about checking the modules in an assembly?
I am building a dll-Assemby A which references another Assembly B. Assembly B is strongly named and installed in the GAC of my development computer. An other computer will not have assembly B installed in the GAC.
Question: If i handle strongly named assembly B like a private assembly and copying it into the bin-directory by specifying local copy = true in the properties-window, will the programm run on the other computer?
One of them is giving us trouble in only 1 spot out of the 4 spots we use it at:The trouble spot is a windows form project that uses reflection to dynamically load some DLLs that run long running processes. One of these long running processes is an agent that relies on one of our vender DLLsWe're getting the missing assembly exception at the point where we first enter a function that references the library. I already checked the silly things such as if we had forgotten to move a reference from the old version to the new version, but that's not the case. I also checked the bin directory of the project and the assembly is there.

I've tried to set a unit test project up to do this, but I can't seem to access the VB code within a unit test... View 1 RepliesI have a Do loop that I want to exit once it goes through without making any changes to an object I created. I figured the best way to do this was to create a temporary copy of the object at the beginning of the loop and then compare that to the actual object at the end of the loop to determine whether any changes were made to it. The problem occurs when variables are accessed and copied by reference. I have tried to use some of the methods such as .Clone and .Equals (maybe I shouldn't be using these, but I didn't see any better built-in methods), but I seem to be doing some stuff wrong. Can somebody give me an example of a good way to copy an object for later equality testing, and how to do the equality testing?
View 5 RepliesI was once a VB 6 expert, but it's been a while.I am attempting to create a simple DLL in VB. I created a new WCF Service Library, which is what it looks like I needed to do. I filled out the interface and implemented it. Here's the interface:

And attempted to call it, but I get System.EntryPointNotFoundException. I've tried pathing the defined library and copying the dll file into the same place where my EXE is, but no change to the error.
