Mar 17, 2011I am reading a large number of XML files and do not want my program to bomb on exceptions. I am making great strides in reporting the errors, skipping the offending files and continuing the import process. However I am having problems with XmlExceptions. I get the following XmlException on the While textReader.Read() line of my program:

I am finding some of the reasons why, missing tags etc, but those aren't really my concern. I just want to report the issue and continue. I am thinking about some kind of check for a valid xml file but fear that that might not catch it all. For example I had a image tag in one of the files that was missing an alt="" attribute and I am not sure if that would invalidate the entire XML file.What would be the best way to trap and deal with the exception with out causing interuption to the program?

Oct 6, 2009I have a windows service I created that checks for data to post to an off site webservice over SSL. The service checks every 10 seconds for data to send, if there is data it opens a connection to the remote webservice, and closes the connection after 120 seconds (still checking for data to send during this time). The service works fine if a user is RDP'd into the server, but as soon as no one is logged on and the service attempts to push data, I receive the following error:"The underlying connection was closed: An unexpected error occurred on a send."I have tried running the service as a local service, network service, under my login, and under a service account, but nothing seems to work. Aug 19, 2010I have a VB .NET Application which I have written for my company which occasionally throws a message "System.IO.IOException: An unexpected network error occurred.", that I have been unable to figure out the issue.The application is a Backup program which to simplify for this post does the following:
1) Checks for H drive or external drive with label of "BackupDrive", if either of these are found it automatically starts a backup of user data
2) Starts an Async thread that deletes older backups based on how many days the user has specified he/she wants to keep
3) Starts the main thread that backups up user data and updates current file/folder and results into a console window.

This error message happens about once a week from one of our sales staff, and I haven't been able to isolate why. It always seems like everything deletes and Backups normally. If they unplugged their network cable I would expect the delete or backup to fail, so I don't think thats the issue.

Jun 21, 2010I'm attempting to load an xml document from an XML column in MSSQL 2008, into an XmlDocument (see code below).
Sometimes the code will break at the xdoc.Load(xr) line with the error "Unexpected end of file and occurred". After breaking, the XmlReader has a value of "None".
While researching the problem, I saw posts that referred to a 4Kb limit on StreamReaders and figured this may be related somehow. So I cut down the size of my document (to around 4Kb) and everything worked fine.
On average, the XML documents I'm importing from the database are 20Kb.
how to get a 'large' amounts of XML from the database into my XmlDocument?

Two instance of same exe where running simultaneously in same PC but error was thrown only by one instance Program uses both sqlconnection(ADO.NET) and ADODB connection(upgraded from VB6) and the error is thrown by both types of connection. If the error is due to network problem with the server then why few programs work fine? I am not able to trace the reason for this behavior of the program. Can I know why this error occurs and why only in few programs of same instance.

Jun 10, 2011I am trying to parse incoming data from a serial port that appears to be XML format but an exception is thrown when I switch from a simulated setup to the real deal.My program runs great in a simulated setup but when I try it out on the real device I get: XmlException was unhandled Unexpected end of file has occurred. The following elements are not closed: li840 line 1, position 9.The li840 tag is my root tag and the position never seems to get past 40. I've tried using a try catch block but in my in both my simulated and real setups my values are blank but the program will run without exceptions. Should I take my received data and put it into a file and then read from the file? or is there something else I can do to make this work properly? [code]

Mar 21, 2012Pretty much the only thing I have changed is created a loop because I have one xmlstring and want to break it up and create tif files from it(which it actually does do).My problem is this: readbytes inside the while loop throws an exception at the last time through the loop that says I have an "unexpected end of file; the following elements are not closed" and lists them

So there are tags left open after the readtofollowing("image"). I tried catching the exception to no avail, tried to read until eof, no avail. I dont really need elements to be closed, I just need to continue because I created files using whats in the image tag.EDIT: I think my xmlstring is going to have times where it will be too big to do a parse without slowing down too much.../parsing binary data?

Aug 23, 2011I am working on a project using VS2010 SQL2008 and I saw an ODD behaviour , First let me tell you that the app runs without any problem in my developing pc (Windows Xp sp3 32bit)But when I was trying the application in another pc (Windows 7 32bit)I got this exception: A network-related or instance-specific error occured while establishing a connection to SQL server.The server was not found or was not accessible.Verfiy that the instance name is correct and that SQl server is configured to allow remote connections.
Now what is weird in this exception; Is when the application reaches the DataAdpater.Fill(dataset) line I got this exception but when the app reaches the DataAdpter.Insert(....) It runs without any problem .
And what is more weird is that I noticed that the dataset that is used in the previous insert procedure can later be filled with dataAdapter.Fill(...) procedure which it was giving me an exception before .
I tried these things as a solution:
1)Checked SQlBrowser running..
2)No aliases to Sql server at all to remove...
3)remote area connection--OK
4)TCP and UDP port 1433,1434 exception in firewall
5)Unistalled my only antivirus Norton
6)Added Tcp/IP ports in Sql protocols
7)My connection String is : onnectionString="Data Source=ALISQLEXPRESS;Initial Catalog=PALMSDATABASE;Integrated Security=True"
8)Also tried using Sql Server authentication (user Id and password)
