Username / Password Authentication For Account Not Currently Logged In
Nov 14, 2011
I can access the current Windows user, but I want to give an admin the ability to enter an alternate username and password for a different Windows Active Directory Account without having to logoff and log back in. Once the account is authenticated, I need to use it in a connection string to sql server. I know I could do this for a SQL Server login, but this is Windows Authentication only. It was installed with ClickOnce. Is there an .exe file on the user's machine?

I have 2 questions here.
1. I would like to know how the attributes of an object in LDAP can be fetched using vb.net
eg here i want to get the properties of user with id saechira.[URL]..
2. I have to perform the authentication of username and password using our LDAP server. I have tried to use the below code. When I try to execute this code it say "Logon Failure: Unknown user name or bad password". Is it because of any invalid parameters, can anyone Please let me know why the authentication fails.. The username password and the domain are all correct. why does this error occur.

I'm trying to make an authentication before my visual basic 2008 project, a login window. You have to login using your vBulletin username & password. The username and password from my community, which is a vBulletin forum. So, I'd like a form that ask you to login using your username and password from my vBulletin forum, so you'd have to register before...

I have a client/server application running in a windows domain environment, the client application is started at log on by a scheduled task using domain admin credentials, i need to be able retrieve the username of the user who logged onto the workstation but all the methods i have tried returns the user that was used to execute the program.I have tried:
Environment.UserName
System.Security.Principal.WindowsIdentity.GetCurrent().Name
Environment.GetEnvironmentVariable("USERNAME")
All of these return the account i used to run the application, not the user who is logged on.

I am looking to create a simple password box that will ask the user for a username and pass, if the user is validated against the usernames and passwords in an .ini file the login box will close and launch a program also stated in the .ini file. I would also like to be able to launch different programs for different users.

On the server, I get my current logged-in username, but from a remote client I get server name/administrator.
Below is the code:
Protected Sub Page_Load(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Me.Load
'Grab username from Windows Authentication, remove the 'HHI', and assign to empName
'empname = Replace(HttpContext.Current.User.Identity.Name.ToUpper, "HHI", "")
'empname = Replace(Page.User.Identity.Name, "HHI", "")
[code]....
I've tried Application Pools with 'Network Service', with Named Accounts and setting the pipeline mode to 'Integrated' and 'Classic'. The above code works properly in Server 2003/IIS6, but I haven't been able to make it work on Windows Server 2008R2/IIS 7.5.

How can an application, running on a production server, access the login username of the machine that a user is accessing an application from? For example, I am currently logged into my machine on the INTRA corporate intranet. My username will be INTRAUsername. I have added specific usernames to a database and wish to check this intranet username against the database to restrict access to an application and leverage the username across the application.Currently, I am using the following code to access the username:rivate username As String = Thread.CurrentPrincipal.Identity.Namehis is working great on localhost, but when authenticating against the database on a development server, I'm getting the following error:

Getting some errors with a loop. It's a log-in app that has username, passwords & account type stored in a SqlCe database. I would like it to sync with a larger database for updates that has not been made so i left it out but I have started to make a loop that would connect it to the larger DB and if connection failed would try a set number of times before stopping the program. I'm coding this project with Visual Studio 08 pro
Dim conndb As New SqlCeConnection("Data Source = |DataDirectory|\Mydb.sdf")
Dim x, y, z As Double
x = 1
y = x + 1

I am writing a program that accepts a user name and password (the password must show up as *s). The user gets three tries to enter the correct information before the program is closed. So far I have the password showing up as the password in clear text the first time and in *s the next two times. The authentication also fails even when I use the correct user name and password which are password and user for now.

Looking to make a simple VB form, that has three text boxs on it. One for a users username, and two for passwords. What I want to do is provide teachers with this form, they type in a students username, and if that username is found in AD it enables the two password boxs. Then the teacher can type a new password for that user in the boxes (the second one obviously being a validation) and then when they click save, it updates the AD account with the new password. Any ideas on how to do this? Does anyone have any code?

I need to authenticate a user against LDAP/AD (windows 2008 r2) so I can leverage the domains password rules etc... I found code that will allow me to validate a users ID and Password entered into a form (using System.DirectoryServices.DirectoryEntry) but my problem is if the user enters an invalid password more that AD is configured to allow, the account gets locked out. Is there anyway around this?

I have managed to successfully connect remotely to the MySQL database for my Joomla! 1.5 website using MySqlConnector in Visual Basic .NET 2010. Now I am trying to authenticate a user's password from values submitted in a simple form to those retrieved from a MySQL query.
I found a useful thread on forums.joomla.org titled "Joomla password MD5 & VB.NET MD5", but the code snippets there produce the incorrect hash.Here is another useful Joomla Forums thread as to how passwords are encrypted (using MD5 hash and "salt") in the Joomla DB.

I need to be able to validate the windows password of the account that is currently logged in. I've managed to do this when the unit has a password. But if it does not have a password, passing an empty string does not work. It fails each time.I've been looking around, but haven't been able to find much on this. Does anyone know how to determine if the user password is empty?[code]

I'm trying to use two different methods of connecting to a database to edit data, the declaration below is working:
Dim rsConn As ADODB.Connection
rsConn.Open("Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=" _
& Application.StartupPath & "VFMS_DB.mdb;" _
& "Jet OLEDB:System Database=Security.mdw", "Ads", "1234")
but now I want to do the same thing with the declaration below but I keep getting the message "Not a valid account name or password.
Dim conn As OleDbConnection
conn = New OleDbConnection("Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=" _
& Application.StartupPath & "VFMS_DB.mdb;" _
& "Jet OLEDB:System Database=Security.mdw;Database Account=Ads;Database Password=1234;")
I pretty sure it's because of this ;Database Account=Ads;Database Password=1234; not being correct. I tried ;User ID=Ads;Database Password=1234; and also to make it look like the first statement but neither worked.

I'm trying to change the password of an AD account in our domain. The program is supposed to locate the sAMAccountName property in AD through an LDAP connection, and then do two things. 1) unlock the user's account by setting the "LockOutTime" property to zero and 2) change the password to a pre-defined password in the code. I've got the program unlocking accounts, but I can't get it to change passwords.
I've tried the line "DirectoryEntry.Properties("userPassword").Value = "xxxxx". I've also tried the DirectoryEntry.Invoke("SetPassword", New Object() {"xxxxx"}) but neither of them work. The first one throws no exceptions but doesn't change the password, and the second one will give me the message "Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation".

While a web page -which needs login- is opened in my browser, if I close browser and re-open, I have to write username password again. But, sometimes when I close browser and re-open for the same page, it isn't needed username and password again? Is it about Session, Cookie? If yes, why are there different conditions?
