VB Conditional String Split/Parse Using LIN?
Oct 16, 2011
I need to parse and separate input strings using VB.NET. Split method works in Example 1, but my problem is when I need to "skip" a space if the following value isn't in the list like Example2. My code works as expected for String1 using Split, but it fails my needs when it outputs EXT1000 and 3 as individual values - they should be part of the original string if not found in the list.I would prefer to keep it in Linq if possible. Generate some type of collection to be used for later manipulation. The main output will end up with a For Each "Results" WriteLine in text file.

I am trying to split a long string based on an array of words. For Example:Words: trying, long, array Sentence: "I am trying to split a long string based on an array of words."Resulting string array:Multiple instances of the same word is likely, so having two instances of trying cause a split, or of array, will probably happen.

I would like to set a conditional breakpoint with a string but it doesn't seem to work.
This is the code example:
For Each Elem in Elements
strMyString = Elem.Name
Next Elem
and in the breakpoint condition I wrote: strMyString = "Value"

I am trying to make a programming language and cant figure out how read the part of the string I want in a conditional statement. Ive tried this:
If (syn_(0) = "p" & syn_(1) = "u" & syn_(2) = "t") Then
'code to do
End If
But It comes up with an error. IS there any other way because I don't want to have to come up with syntax that is all the same length.

Just wondering if its possible in VB.NET RegEx's if you can do conditional substitutions when rebuilding a string, in the sense that extra characters can be inserted if missing. I offer this bank account example, were we're trying to standardize a bank account into the format XX-XXXX-XXXXXXX-XXX, note the 3 XXX's in the suffix

I have a field that I display via: String.Format({0:c},amount) This produces the string "$28.28" However, when I try to convert back to a decimal amount, I get an incorrect format exception: amount = Decimal.Parse(amount.Text, NumberStyles.Currency) I also tried it with NumberStyles.AllowCurrencySymbol with the same results. I verified that the value in amount.Text is "$28.28". Am I missing something? Shouldn't these two operations use the same currency symbol and formats?

I have written a program that uses an array of the english alphabet and Morse code. I also built a form with a input box for the alphabetic information and an output box with the Morse Code. What i am trying to do is basically type a word like "Hi" in the input box and produce the Morse Code equivalent in the Morse Code output box. [Code] This works but only one letter at a time. Do i need to Parse the string of characters one at a time, and then run it through a loop like i have created?

I'm trying to split a Yahoo historical stock price csv file, downloaded into a string, by what looks like a space character. I want a new row for each split. The split function works for other characters I see in the string. I suspect the characters may be a non breaking space character but I've been unable to split on them. This is the test csv file that is downloaded into the string: [URL] I'm trying to split the string like this:

Is there a way to use the string.split command to get a section of a string without using an intermediary array?for example, if my string is "1 2" and I want to get the "2" part using string.split(" "), is there a way to avoid creating a new array, and just get the bit of the string I want in a single line?

After having some trouble in my own code using String.Split and the Split(String(), Int32, StringSplitOptions) overload, I decided to look to the MSDN.I copied the entire VB.NET code example from this link: url...I placed it in a new class, and received the following errors (same errors as my own code example):[code]Why can my code not recogognize the string() parameter overloads to String.Split? Remember, i took the code from the MSDN link above, copied and pasted and it still did not work.I am counting on using the string() instead of char() overloads shown here: url...

I have some code that splits a session into strings by a -
My session looks something like this 123-456-789- and I split it like this
Dim MyString As String() = Session("MySession").Split("-"C)
And i've got a some code like this
Dim x as Integer
For x = 0 to MyString - 1
Response.write("Ref: " & MyString(x) & "<br>")

Ref: 123
Ref: 456

I want to take a string from a text box and split each letter of the string into an array. Then, I want to take the first item in the array(the first letter of the string)and capitalize it. Once I've done all that, I want to combine the array and convert it back to the original string it was, except I want the first letter to be capitalized(I've already placed this into a variable.)
Here's what I've come up with so far:
[Code].....
how to combine the array back to a string except I replace the first letter of the original string with the "firstLetter" variable I created.

I am making a change to an existing process. Currently the csv file (which can have embedded "," with the field in quotes), i being passed as an
IO.StreamReader parameter pStreamReader.
dim vLine as string = pStreamReader.ReadLine
dim vFields () as String = vLine.Split(","c)
Well ... obviously the split does not work with embedded commas in a field. Looked at TextFieldParser, but it is in the FileIO class and the module is passed a IO.StreamReader. Can it work?
Or how abour a RegEx? Does anyone have any suggestions? I have look around on the internet and it seems like a common questions with a bunch of wild goose chases.

I am writing some code which needs me to parse the integer from a string. For example:
Dim str as String = "300ML"
I need to store the 300 to an Integer and discard the "ML" from the end. I can't seem to find a sensible way of doing this other than using RegEx. However, for the life of me I can not get my head around RegEx.
