I have been searching for a while and not able to find anything useful on how to approach this issue.I have a ComboBox on a form and what I am looking to do is when the ComboBox has the cursor focus, it automatically opens up and displays the options. Just as if you clicked on the ComboBox. I was considering PerformClick but the only problem is, I believe PerformClick is only available for the Button and no other control.

View 2 Replieshave build some code which goes through the datasource finding records on what a user types, basically if the user types 'P' in the combobox it finds all records from FieldName with 'P' and if you type 'Portugal' it finds all records from the FieldName with 'Portugal, it all narrows down the search list say if there are to entries which match 'Portugal' the combox would only have to items in. The problem i am have is that when i bound the datasource back to the combobox every letter you type stays at Postion 0 of the combobox and doesn't move to the end of the letter as normally the combo works, does any one now how to get arround this problem.
At the moment i call my combobox search code from the keypress event of the combobox.This code works fine with recordsets in msaccess combobox but i cannot get it to work with the datasource of the combobox in vb.net Heres the code from the combobox keypress event:

I am trying to use the open file dialog box in VB 2005 to open up an existing txt, or rtf file from a directory into a rich text box. Id like to use a combobox that you could type into and (as you are typing) would update the drop down list with the ability to use wildcardsThe list is populated with a table in my database. I have auto complete functionality in combo box ,it works properly but there is little issue ,I made the suggestion list appear for the text length more than 3 chars ,but the list appears after the length of 4 char (when user enters the fifth char of the text) which means when the code executed in the first time the list doesn't appear here is the code in Text_Changed Event

Inside the combobox, the data inside is laid out like this: 41-1A-1303: EXPIRED REGISTRATION Now, autocomplete works fine, if I start typing in the statute (like the 41 part). The auto complete dropdown will NOT close, no matter what I do. When I load the form, the dropdown is down with all the options displayed. I can type anything, and the options will narrow down, until an option is selected, then all the options reappear in the list. If I select an option, hit tab, enter, any key or mouse click, the list still doesn't close. If I change the DropDownStyle to DropDown or DropDownList, it works fine.
im making another program to my collection. I put them up on my website.on this one, I want to make the startup form (login.vb) like a login form.I have a template and I was wondering, instead of using an aspx.net authentication thing, could I just save it to "C:\Program Files\Facebook\users(hidden)\log.txt" and then, when the login button is clicked, it will check to see if the textbox's match the texts in the directory, and if they are correct, then It will open browser.vb? Also I looked for this sort of code, but all I could find was openfiledialogs and savefiledialogs, but I need it to run "in the background" just for verification.
I dont care that people can just click show hidden folders and then have the passwords, because it really doesn't have anything inportant in it. Also an Override account like Admin would be useful.
I wonder if you can help. I have an intranet with about 2000 photos on it. A lot of these photos were not compressed when uploaded so can be upwards of 4 or 5MB in size.
Is there a script/tool I can run to go through the directory one image by one and automatically and compress each images to say 100k or percentage of the current file size, then save and close the file with the same name?

View 2 RepliesI have a problem with the auto-complete behaviour of comboboxes in VB.NET (with the .NET framework 2.0).I am using a combobox to type in numeric values, and its DropDown list to suggest possible numeric values. This list is sorted in ascending order, for example {"10","92", "9000", "9001"}.The combobox properties are set as follow:
AutoCompleteMode: SuggestAppend
AutoCompleteSource: ListItems
DropDownStyle: DropDown
Sorted: False
The DropDown list is simply filled like this:

When I don't type anything, the order of values of the DropDown list is correct, in original/ascending order. However, when I start typing something, the suggested values in the DropDown list get sorted (alphanumerically): if I type "9", the list of suggestions becomes {"9000", "9001", "92"}.I would like to prevent this behaviour to get the values of the list in the original/ascending order. I can't figure out how...A possible work-around would be to pad with zeroes the values in the list, e.g. {"0010", "0092", "9000", "9001"} but I would like to avoid this.

The below code works fine to export data from a datagrid to excel spreadsheet. Is it possible to incorporate an auto email (outlook) so that I can automatically send the spreadsheet to my manager lets say his email is abc@xyz.co.uk. What I want to do is when the spreadsheet is opened an auto email is sent with the spreadsheet attached to my line manager.

We have a combo box where users enter a part number. Auto-complete is on and we're in SuggestAppend mode with the source set as ListItems. The part number is in a format something like this:-
XX XX-XXX
2 chars, a space, 2 chars, a hyphen, 3 chars. The format does change slightly for different types of parts but the combination of characters (ignoring the spaces and hyphens) is always unique. The format is just a presentation issue but, for business/political reasons, we cannot 'flatten' it to just the characters.
Our users would like to be able to just type the characters and have the auto-complete work. However, they still want the display to show the spaces and hyphens, both in the list and in the 'textbox' part of the combo when they make a selection. So the list might look like:-
AB KN-TRD
AB KN-TTN
AB PR-TRD

the user types AB, the list now looks like:-
AB KN-TRD
AB KN-TTN
AB PR-TRD
AB PR-TTN
Now the user types K (nb, they have not typed a space), the list now looks like:-
AB KN-TRD
AB KN-TTN
At this point it's acceptable for the textbox to show ABK (no space) but as soon as the the user makes a selection the textbox needs to contain the spaces and hyphens from the part number selected.My hunch is that there must be some sort of comparator function in the combobox I can override but I'm struggling to find the details as to how.
