VS 2005 DGV Vert Scrollbar Messing With Listbox Position
May 16, 2012
Very simply, I'm positioning a small ListBox over a DataGridView column when the user right-clicks and selects "Show Distinct Values". This works fine until the vertical scrollbar of the DataGridView is clicked. Once that's done the listbox pops up all the way over to the left edge of the DataGridView. As confirmation of the problem I created a small app to test with.

I have a listbox on my form which gets items added as the program progresses, when there are more items than the box can display, the vertical scrollbar appears, fine... so far so good.I would like the scrollbar default position to be at the bottom of it's column so that the last entered item is displayed but can't find the relevant command, I assume there is such a command.

So with the stock Textbox, I set the Scrollbars property to Vertical. This is great if the text in my box never changes; I can scroll up and down while the box sits still. If I'm running a background operation that logs output to the box though, the scrollbar resets itself to the top every time I append text to the box.
I know I can set the Textbox.Selection property (or use the Select method) to reposition the carat in the textbox, make note of that position in a variable, then append text, reset the carat, and use the ScrollToCarat method to reposition the scrollbar where it belongs. That's a really (ridiculously) long way around. Anybody know if there's another/better way of holding the scrollbar position, short of actually building a custom control (or using a Textbox and a separate Scrollbar)? It never hurts to try. In a worst case scenario, you'll learn from it.

I have one gridview which was in a panel and I set panel's Scrollbars property as vertical and height 200px. Gridview has number of rows (say 1000). If i scroll down and selected a 900th row,scroll bar will move to top.I want to focus on that row after selection(ie.scroll bar will be on the same position when we selected).

I have a TextBox control with a lot of text which has a vertical scrollbar, and every time I hide/show the control the position of the scrollbar stays the same. I'm trying to figure out how to change the position of the scrollbar to the top of the textbox, as if it were at the beginning of the text.

I am working DataGridView in vb.net08.The intresting task is ,When i move the Horizontal Scrollbar in DataGridView from Left to Right ,the First two Columns should be stable and moving starts from 3rd Column.Means If i moved at end of the right side but the first two columns should be visible. When i move the scroll bar the first two columns should not be disterb.Is there any property like Scroll bar position should be starts ??I tried the " FirstDisplayedScrollingColumnIndex" property but it only starts the Scrollbar from giving column index after moving the scrollbar the first two columns are moving into left side.

A couple of questions about the FolderBrowserDialog in VB .NET Express 2005...
1. How can I make it so this control allows selection of multiple folders at a time?
2. It remembers the folder I selected last time (in the same session), and highlights that folder, which is good, but that selected folder appears near the bottom of the window. Is there a way to make it so the previously selected folder appears in the middle of the window (i.e. the scroll bar is further down the window)? See screen shot attached for how it currently looks when the window opens.

The scrollbar that comes with the ListBox is too small for touch screens, so I use my own scrollbar instead. But when you do this on various forms you end up repeating a lot of code. So my solution was to create a custom scollbar that has a property I can set to the control I want it to be a scrollbar for. In vb6, I can use the withevents keyword to get access to the control's events so that all the scrollbar related code can be in the custom scrollbar object I created, except...I had to create a refresh method for the consuming code to use to let the scrollbar know when the number of items changes. The scrollbar doesn't need to be told how many items there are because it has access to the control, but for a listbox there is no event to tie into when an item is added/removed so not 100% of the scrollbar related code could be encapsulated.

I would like that when one text box is scrolled, the other is scrolled as well. I was wondering if there was a Scroll event that could trigger the change the position of the scroll bar of the two text boxes.

Is it possible to select an item in one listbox and then display the data of another listbox with the same indexed position? I am planning a project and this is something I would like to attempt but I haven't figured out how to do it.[code..]
I tried doing the above code but instead of displaying the listbox text the message box just returned false.

Im trying to fill a ListBox with more than 65542 items in a Visual Basic .NET 2008 project. The ListBox seems capable to collect 100000 articles, but when i scroll through the list the scrollbar works till the 65500th listing (more or less) then it just jumps upwards.The weird thing is that I have two version of the same project which have different behaviors. One (tmp.zip) scroll fine with the scrollbar, but it doesn't with wheel mouse button.The other (listBox.zip), the scrollbar goes mad but mouse wheel seems ok
listobox.zip: is a new project created within VS 2008 tmp.zip: is a cleaned up form imported in VS 2008 from an early version (VS 2003?)

I have been working on a much larger project and came to a point where I decided threading should be used.It seems in previous version of .Net, a background worker was able to update controls that were were not created on that thread. Now, it doesn't seem to be the case.I basically just began a new small project to try and teach myself the basics.Form1 Consists of A listbox, A progress bar, a label and two buttons, one to start and one to cancel.
imports system.threading
private sub btngo(byval sender as system.object, byval e as system.eventargs) handles btngo.click
pbprogress.minimum = 0[code=....
This code appears to be updating the listbox.I can see the vertical scrollbar getting smaller, but no data is shown in the listbox. The progressbar is also updating properly while that is working, indicating proper background operation.But what it's not doing is this:
1. Label is not updating percentage
2. The form is not free to be used by the user (me)

I'm using a DataGridView in VB.Net in VS 2005. The issue is, when there are rows that exceed the width of the DataGridView, the horizontal scroll bar doesn't appear (the ScrollBars property is set to "Both"), but an ellipsis appears at the end of each row that is too long. I don't want the ellipsis, but the horizontal scroll bar. The vertical scroll bar works as expected when the number of rows exceed the height of the DataGridView.
I have tried setting numerous related properties (changing the AutoSizing property of the DataGridView, Resizability of the Row Template, made sure that no Columns were Frozen) to no avail.

When a panel's AutoScroll is set True then it will add scrollbars for navigation of the entire size of its content. What I want is to be able to set the vertical scrollbar to go to top or zero so its contents top controls will be viewable.

I'm currently working on a program that involves a listbox, database and some (rich) Textboxes. Let's assume I'm making a contactlist program.The database connection is established, placed 'ContactName' in listbox.When you click on someone's name in the listbox, I want the program to get the data of that person and show that data in RichTextbox1. I've spend hours thinking how to accomplish that but all I got was headaches.
A second thing I would like to do is to place a textbox on the form and when you type a character it removes all the entries in the listbox except for the ones that matches.So if I'm searching for John Doe and I type "John" in the textbox I would like to see all the John's in my contact list. Or when I search for John and only type "oh" I would like to remove all the items that don't have any "oh" in their names. (Search box)

Been taking a programming class in school for the last year and we haven't really done anything with a progress bar so I was curious to see what I can do with it. I found some basic code to see how it worked and I get it.[code]However, instead of having a fixed time, I want the maximum to represent the time it takes for something to be done whether it be loading a new form, searching for something, etc. I don't know if that made sense, but basically I want the progress bar to react accordingly to the time it takes to do something.For example, in this little test project I just want the progress bar to represent the time it takes to load form2. I believe you'd have to change the maximum. However, I don't know how to get Form2's load time to be able to put it in the progress bar's maximum.

It doesn't allow me to resize anything or more the panel

I am using vb.net 2003 and an Access database connected via Jet 4.0 OleDb. I have identified the location of my database using a relative path with [code]My program was working fine and I began making some cosmetic changes.I thought it would be a nice touch to add a PictureBox on the first form and allow the user to select the image that he would like to see when running the program.I added a menu item to "change the picture" and on a form added an OpenFile Dialog. I added code to capture the location of the selected file and used it to identify the image to be shown.I included a table in my database to store the file name and path which is loaded when the program starts.This all worked fine. I could change from picture to picture and the image would be updated each time in the picture box and in the database. I could access the database and perform all of the functions of the program.
That is as long as the image files that I selected were located in program startup directory. If I selected an image with the openfile dialog which was located else where then I could no longer contect to the database. I receive an "unhandled exceptions error". Below is the openfle code:[code]Can anyone help me with the proper way to get set up the open file dialog so that the results do not conflict with my database connection, or re-establish the connection?[code]

what the purpose of the following code is:[code]....
What it does appears obvious: it increments the position by 0 (i.e. leaves it unchanged) so it appears that it does nothing-but the vendor included it so I'm assuming there's a reason.From the comments, MyCurrencyMgr is the CurrencyManager for the 'primary table' and the CurrencyMgrCollection should contain CurrencyManagers for 'other tables' but I can't find where any are actually added to it-and whether the other CurrencyManagers exist or not, I still can't see what the purpose of this code is.
