VS 2005 Debugging A Project In A VS2005?
Aug 22, 2009I have a solution with four projects loaded in it. When I hit F5, it always starts up one particular project. How can I tell it to fire off one of the others?

Make sure the namespace or the type is defined and contains at least one public member. Make sure the imported element name doesn't use any aliases. (follow by the path of the project)"

View 3 Repliesi did a project in vb.net using the vs2005.I created the set up of the application. But when i install the set up in a machine in which vs is not installed then the set up does not work.Again when the machine has vs installed then the setup works nicely.....
should i need to install this:

on every client machine in which vs is not installed but still i want to install the set up of my application?
or some other software in order to run my application?
I recently moved my Application that was running off of Window XP and created in VS 2005 over to a box that's running Windows7.Now, when I try to debug, I can't edit. In the lower portion of the screen, it gives me this error: Cannot currently modify this text in the editor. It is read only.
Under Tools->Options->Debugging, Edit and Continue are already selected; so it's something else. Also, under project properties->compile I have it set to Cofiguration (Active Debug) and Platform (Active Any CPU).
First of all, please feel free to skip this entirely if you can understand the questions below.I'm still very fresh new to .NET, but an elder monkey on bad old ASP in regular VB.I just got into a company with some legacy .NET VB files and now I have a couple of huge projects, with over 50mb of files and about 1gb the whole project and debugging them haven't been easy. I've read through w3schools tutorial and did many google researchs to get to this point in which I just can't make this work. And unlike in another very similar question I don't think this is a simple issue.
I don't know if those projects are MVC or regular Web Application, but I was told to use "Other Project Types > Visual Studio Solution > Blank Solution" and then "Add Existing Web Site" to that. With no further instructions or orientation, I see they all have DLLs and makes me believe they are not MVC.
Anyway, whichever this or many other ways I've tried to add the files into Visual Studio, I could never use the Debug properly with one of them. One works fine enough, I can at least see it running locally very alike from the webserver. But the other gives me many random errors and warnings to "compile" the debug and run on Visual Studio's own server (I think it's called "ASP.NET Development Server"). Some errors shouldn't even exist like "The file XXX doesn't exist" while I can easily verify it does exist!
I don't really expect to have much help here, but I still hope to find some. Sorry if this is too much. What options do I have to debug a big Visual Studio project that already works online in a server that have debugging and even error options turned off?How can I know how to properly "import" an existing project into Visual Studio to begin with?Is this a homework question?(new) Given I have 3 places to sync many files (local, shared production network and live) what's the best approach to work on and debug existing errors? Out of the box thinking is always welcome (converting project, not using Visual Studio, older version, whatever)
I am compiling a VB Project in VS2005 with SP1. This is the error that I am getting when I build this project.
12>C:WINDOWSMicrosoft.NETFrameworkv2.0.50727Microsoft.Common.targets(802,9): error MSB3108: Error executing the ResolveNonMSBuildProjectOutput task. An error occurred while parsing EntityName. Line 1, position 115.Microsoft.Common.targets is a file present in WINDOWS folder and used internally by VS2005 while building the projects. I am not able to get any clue why this error has come.
I am working with visual studio 2008, developing a simple windows form app. in VB. but a very weird situation has presented itself (at least I think its weird). When I try F5 or any other way to start the debugger I get this message:"Error while trying to run project: Unable to start debugging. The debugger cannot connect to the remote computer. This may bebecause the remote computer does not exist or a firewall may be preventing communication to the remote computer. Please see Helpfor assistance."Needless to say, Help is Helpless. The weird thing about it is that this only appears if my computer is not connected to the home network and only in VB. When I try to debug on any other language it works fine, or if I connect to the network then VB debugs fine. I do not think I am using a remote debugger.
View 6 RepliesEverything was working just fine...then one time running the debugger and I'm given a 401.2 error from IIS Express 7.5. I created a new project and tested - worked fine. I ensured the web.config and other project settings where identical - still getting the error in the original project!

I'm using visual studio express 2008, I wrote my code for a project and then when I tried to debug it I got a few errors but one main one that says this. Visual Studio cannot start debugging because the debug target "".exe is missing Please build the project and retry, or set the output path and assembly names appropriately to point at the correct location of the target assembly. Since this is my first time debugging a program with this particular instance of the program, I am in shock. Does anyone know how to fix this issue?
View 6 RepliesTrying to debug a Windows application, in the Immediate Window, if I type the following:?UBound( I see a tooltip showing the syntax of UBound, but when I complete the statement as ?UBound(CBa) where CBa is the name of an array, I get the response: Name 'UBound' is not declared. Strangely enough, the UBound function is referenced in the code prior to the breakpoint, and works correctly. Why can't I use it in the Immediate Window? I have the same problem with the Len function, it says it's not declared.
View 6 RepliesI can pause the application and see that it thinks no threads are running so no call stack. The other projects in the same solution are all responding fine, just this one stalls. I can not think of any way to work out what it was doing at time of stall, I have no event logs, no breakpoints, there is no particular thing I can check for in my own logging system (which is quite extensive) that shows where/why/what the application is hanging for. Any clues on how to solve/investigate? To add, this is on a Vista box, but not able to move the system to anything else (source controlled) until I can find out what this is. Its an avenue I can go down if required however.
View 4 RepliesWhenever I try to debug, I get an error message that says "Error while trying to run project: Unable to start debugging. The binding handle is invalid." How do I fix this? It's happening for every project.
View 3 RepliesI set my computer then install VB6.0 run VS2005 VB.net 2005 error example: Visual Studio can not start debugging because-the debug target exe .'... 'is missing.uild the project and retry, or set the OutputPath and AssemblyName properties appropriately to point at the correct location for the target assembly. same machine can use the same VB6.0 and vb.net 2005 is not? do not fix the error, for example, I run with the above error, see attachment (Thumbnails.rar)
View 8 RepliesI'm having to write a reporting application that gets information from some Interbase servers and it also has to work on Vista as well as XP, I'm using to connect Borlands Data Provider.[code]My Issue is that debugging on my xp Machine the dataset gets filled, debugging on my vista box it fails ("Interbase provider initialization failed"), my initial thought was that this could be UAC related but I've compiled the application and 'ran as admin' and still same issue. (by the way it failes on the line Dim da as BdpDataAdapter...)

How do I fix this error in Visual Studio? "The project file cannot be loaded. The application for project ... is not installed" I have copied a whole project onto my PC, both into My Documents/Visual Studio and into inetpub/wwwroot, but when I try to open the project in Visual Studio, it tries to open just 1 file .vssproj and gives me error messages, like : "The project file cannot be loaded. The application for project ... is not installed.". What am I doing wrong? The VS edition is 2005 as are all the projects aI am trying to load.
View 3 RepliesI had made a project in VB.NET 2005 with SQL SERVER 2005 used as database. Now i want to make a setup of this project but i am unable to integrate sqldatabase and .net framework in this setup project. Is there any way to do this. Because it is assumed that the client does not have .NET Framework installed nor he has SQL Server on his system and the worst condition would be he does not have even internet connection from where these two setups can be downloaded if we give the condition for downloading these programs from the net if the client does not have these programs installed on his machine.
View 2 RepliesI'm attempting to copy a rather complex form from one part of my project and use it (modified) within another part (ie, depending on whether it's maintenance or an outage, you'll get a slightly different email screen).
My first attempt failed miserably, as I had simply right-clicked and pasted the form within the project, assuming renaming the controls would work. nope, I didn't realise that there was stuff in the original form that was renamed as well, and that created a monstrous pile of errors. My second through fourth attempts also failed, generating errors in forms that (I thought) weren't related or connected. Once I deleted the copied form, all was fine.
So, short of trying to rebuild the form from scratch (using a different naming convention for my controls etc.), is there a simple way of doing this? This seems to be such a simple task, but alas I was wrong....(or, at least it's not easy with the information I have right now.

View 1 RepliesI am hoping that someone from the forum is familiar with the Doing Objects in Visual Basic 2005 book so that this question makes a little more sense. I have completed the sample project and understand most of what I have done. There are some holes in my knowledge but I am sure I will pick up those pieces as I become more familiar with object orientated programming.
The sample project is an almost complete application where you view and edit Objects that are stored in a database. The author leaves the remaining features needed up to the reader, which is great because I have been able to put new knowledge into use. However I am having trouble saving a new object back to the database.

By looking at this code it appears that I can save the data that is in the bindingsource by changing the EntityState to the Enum added. However I am not sure where to set it. I am pretty confident that I have the rest of this correct because when I try to do the save I get an error that the stored procedure is expecting the GoalID.
I am just a newbie with VB.net, though i have experience in c# .net environment. Now I was just wondering how to start a vb.net project in VS.2005? its the version installed here in my assigned PC.
View 1 RepliesI am not sure if this is the correct place for this, but am using a custom control in a project that I want all the developers to have access to when they download the source.
Should I just add it to the project like a normal file? If so how do I reference it in the project folder? The other developers project folders might have different paths than mine.
i have heard that there must be a button on your project for taking back up of your whole project. I want to know something that what sort of backup it will take? and other thing is that how to make that button i mean that how to take backup simply?
