i'm doing Advance search in my applications(vb.net,MS-Access) ,the results display form is quite heavy so i thought before loding the form i want to show some search icon

I did not do anything at all but I just noticed that my 2005 solution files are defaulted to 2003 so I used "Open With" and ticked the "Always use this program..." and selected the 2005 even and it is now being opened with 2005 but somehow the icon still shows the 2003 icon, why is this and is there anything I can do to revert it back to the 2005 icon?
The only thing I did was to download and install the latest BOL of SQL Server 2000 which I am not sure if it affected any setting for VS. EDIT: "Restore File Association" did not do the trick.
I want the form to hide when I click on the minimize button, then the notify icon will show up on the system tray. I have this piece of code:

I have done this before with Ajax but its alot of work and my site is not a Ajax enabled site.

Then I placed a button and moved the code into the button click event and it worked. Thus, I know the code shouldn't be wrong. How can you make the graphics( as in lines, rectangle,etc) show up when it starts up?

Now where i click that button the other text boxes are filled up with the data from database thru web service.. what i want is while all text boxes are being filled i want to show an animated loading gif image till data loading is completed in all the text boxes.. i have tried to use image picture box but while data is loading gif image is displyes but in static mode.. cant see animation... i think this is because data loading and animation both are done thru one UI thread..

form 2 contains of a dgv and by the form1 i am editing the contents of the dgv present in the form 2.......
after making the changes when again i show the form2 and hide the form1,then the changes made did not appears in the form2............
i have this bit of code at the form load of the form2:

now when i close my application and again reload it then then changes that i made appears in the dgv of the form2........
if i am showing the hidden form then at the time of showing it,does the form load event of the hidden form is raised?
or,
the hidden form is already loaded and there is NO form load event and only the form is shown and hidden...
Why my form loads takes time the first time I clicked the menu to load it (I even see not responding on the title bar), but when it is already loaded, I will close it and clicked the menu to load it again then it load fast already....

I have a menu which when clicked will load form which take quite sometimes (although not very long) but the user keeps on clicking the menu and so the "not responding" message appears on the title bar of the app. I am thinking of displaying "Loading....Please Wait" so that users will stop clicking the menu or will wait until the loading of the form is completed. I tried these code but the form is still displayed even if form has loaded completely. [Code] I like to use the same concept also when the user clicked the save button, to tell the user to wait while changes are being saved.

I have a form with about 50 controls on it. labels, check boxes, combo boxes. text boxes and so on. Now I have a image on the back ground of the form and have made the checkbox text with transparent back ground so the picture can show through. the problem is that it is so slow to load. I see each one appearing on the form one by one. I have tried this on multiple machines and it does it on all of them. I have tried making the checkboxes not transparent but it still is slow.
how can I allow the form to load completely before it displays it. This is the initial form that loads and shows up.

View 3 RepliesI have a vb.net 2008 application which has its corresponding icon.
The icon shows correctly except in the taskbar when the "small icon" setting is on.
My vb.net project includes a .ico file which when I see in the IDE includes 16x16, 32x32, 48x48, 64x64 and 256x256 bitmaps, in 4, 24 and 32 bits, also 3 .png images in 256x256 32 bits each.
I made the icon myself simply using a 64x64 bitmap and then converting it to .ico, and assigning it to the application in the project properties. I thought windows would use and escalate the corresponding image, it shows even in the file explorer properly in the small icon form, but not in the taskbar.
I currently have the following code but I would like to get away from going to a physical location. If I have the icon as a resource, how can I programatically add the icon? I don't want to use the form's designer to do this.

View 1 RepliesIm trying to make the an icon for the form work with my own icon, because all programs have their own(like ie hat the e and paint.net has their logo), but whenever I put in my icon phote(and it is saved as .Ico) it comes up with the error: Argument 'picture' must be a picture that can be used as an icon. I have the same measurments as the defult one(32 by 32) so what am i doing wrong?

View 4 RepliesTrying to write an app to load a Text file and then search for substrings that contains some specific characters to compose a list. Tried first loading the text file into a StreamReader then search line by line for my substrings. Had to write a lot of code to identify my strings, but it worked ok. Then tried loading the text file into a RichTextBox then use RichTextBox.Find(......) to look for my substrings. The " .Find" property makes the code really simple, but using RichTextBox the app was really slow.
Using Stream the loop was completed in about 2 minutes and using RichTextBox in about 30 minutes! I will need to make a lot of searches and using RichTextBox is lots easier, but is too slow. Is there any way to perform search operations using Streams instead making a loop and go looking line by line??? Or what else would be a good solution to search for strings in a text file??
