Anyways, I have been programming a Metrics application for the past few months. For all intensive purposes, I have just completed the programming. However, I recently started to get the error "Specified cast is not valid". You can see the stack trace below:

I am passing into the method the Powerpoint Presentation object, the string specifying the Object name of the graph Ole Shape, and an integer for the slideDiff (to help differentiate which slide the method is modifying). Also, for context, I am using this to automate a PPT presentation, using Powerpoint.Interop COM objects.
I have tried to research this on various forums. Typically, it seems like this problem is found when accessing databases, or when someone tries to put a string into an integer variable (or another type of incompatible variable type). Looking at the code, I always bring in the string for the Object Number...so the variable type is correct there.

Dear friends I face a strange problem I use Linq-to-SQL to insert data in vb.net. When I insert data into SQL Server through a DataGridView it gives error of which column data type is "integer" but when I insert data through textbox it not give any error

I have a class called PunchEvent. In the class I have an Enum called EventReason. I want to have a function Public Function ReasonToString(ByVal Reason As EventReason) As String. That is defined "near" the class (ie in the same file?) but is not actually part of the class (ie. it is not a member function). In c++ I guess this would be a static function? I tried to just define it after the "end class", but it says "statement is not in a valid namespace". Any recommendations?

What I am trying to do is have a class where the functions of the same name are both instance functions and shared functions.
Public Shared Function Get...(byval xx as xx)
and
Public Function Get...
The Public Function uses a Property xx created in the constructor, whereas the Shared Function has the parameters (byval xx as xx).
I have most of the obvious user error handled with code, limits to mubers on keypress, if statement in case of input blank left blank etc.. I've read that API function calls in .NET aren't needed nearly as much as they were in VB 6 as .NET can do so much more directly. So, I don't suppose there is list out there anywhere that details API functions and how you can accomplish the same thing in .NET without API?

I have a solution with 5 visual basic projects in it. Each project has an identical module with a few functions and constants - like handling our RS232 data, outputting events to log files, etc, etc..
If I want to change any of this common code, then I have to manually go through and change in each project. Is there a way to have a single module or class that's shared throughout the projects in the entire solution? I've considered creating and referencing a class library, but I'm likely to be making several little tweaks and changes to this "global code" and that method sounds like it could be just as awkward. Can I not just have a module that's visible to all projects, and compiled into each one seperately when the solution is built?
