VS 2008 Back Up What Is Stored In Memory

I'm writing a application that has to check live what's going on somewhere. The data is stored in a integer array.But this data comes from a PLC over a COM port. So imagine if someone pulled out the cable while my application is running. I have to find a way that the integer array will be stored somewhere when my application crashes. I thought maybe I could do something with a text file? But how do I get my application to store the data when it crashes? Do I have to surround my whole code with a try catch and then in the catch save everything to a text file? Well I like to know if some of you have better ideas or can point me in the right direction.

I've noticed that every time I start a new thread in my program, the memory usage jumps about 1000k and it never goes back down. I have ensured that the thread is no longer running, and only one instance of my worker thread is ever running at a time. I am using ThreadPool.QueueUserWorkItem and ASyncOperation to get stuff done. The program starts using a Sub Main in a module that uses STAThread; I read that using STAThread instead of MTAThread makes it impossible for the Garbage Collector to get in and consider objects for garbage collection. However, when I change the STAThread to an MTAThread, the WebBrowser control in my frmMain cannot be instantiated.
I get this exception:
Code: An unhandled exception of type 'System.Threading.ThreadStateException' occurred in System.Windows.Forms.dll
Additional information: ActiveX control '8856f961-340a-11d0-a96b-00c04fd705a2' cannot be instantiated because the current thread is not in a single-threaded apartment. I do threading with the WebBrowser control, so will using MTAThread fix my problem? If so, how should I partition my code so that the WebBrowser control won't be affected by the above exception? I call the thread repeatedly with a timer (although only one instance ever runs at a time), and my program's memory usage starts at about 5000k and can jump to 300,000k+ depending on many times the thread needs to be called.

Assume I have a large dataset and I want to run a "like" function in the dataset eg column - Name..Is there any way to run a like statement in a dataset.Is it possible with ASP.NET? I dont want to run a query to the database.

As the reference values are stored in the heap as a data; where do the type information of any reference value is stored?If there are a couple of instances of class Artist; when they are stored in the heap how the .Net tags those memory blocks as type of Artist?

I am working on completing the Clear event for Button Clear Sub routine. I have been able to clear the textboxes with the code I already have. However, in playing with the application, I noticed that the memory remains stored somewhere in the program. How to both clear the textboxes, and clear the memory?

I have an app written in vb2005 that allows users to search a sql database for a store name. Once a store is selected, it then presents the user with 12 different tabs, each with a DataGridView showing various bits of info about the store. It's a large and convoluted database, so I'm using stored proceedures to pull the data for each tab. Here's a sample of one of the subs that populates the tabs.[code...]
Now, this works just fine to populate the grids on the tabs, and the same code is copied into each of the subs that fill the grids (changing the stored proc, parameter and grid names, of course). The problem I'm having is how to move changes made to the data in the grid back into the database.
I have stored procs that do this (and the procs do work), I just can't seem to figure out how to trigger the stored proc when the user makes a change.
If it matters, there is only a grid on each tab, I did not use a binding source as I am trying to keep an abstraction layer between the data and the app. I did create a dataset, which is how I gain access to the stored procs, but I left the grids unbound and (as seen in my code) bind them at run time.

this is the first time i am calling a stored procedure via vb.net and i would like to make sure i have everything correct before i execute it. This is my code:

The stored procedure returns 6 colums worth of data and i would like to add that data to a listview. I'm not sure i have the correct sytax for doing that but this is what i used in my previous sql code (running a query with, not a stored procedure). Also, i'm not sure how to go about getting data for the @xxx names above from a textbox? How do i pass the values into the @xxx names from the users textbox? I have a string which was converted to a char array and stored in a stringcollection, how do I return the numerical value for the character in each string? How can I reverse this process, getting the character from the numerical value?
I know I could code a Select Case statement, but that would take a very long time as I need to cover every character a person could want to conceivably use in the English language, including punctuation. Is there already a method built into vb.net for doing this?

I cannot use Visual Basic 2008 at all. When I go to "new project" and choose "Windows Form Application" I get this error.I have tried multiple uninstall/reinstall with no result.A microsoft reply to this suggested that I needed: " .NET Framework 2.0 Service Pack 1 " I checked, and I did not have the .netframework 2.0 service Pack 1.
When I tried to download and install the above from Microsoft.com, the istaller said that "it was not allowsed" and I was not able to install the service pack 1.
I tried Uninstalling net framework 3.5, 3.0, 2.0 and then reinstalling .netframework 2.0 sevice pack 1; then reinstalling Visual basic 2008 express edition. At the reinstall of Visual basic 2008, .netframework 2.0 sevice pack 1 is unistalled by .net framework service pack 2.When I check the foruims for simiar problems, the formus are mostly for Visual basic 5.0, or other programs that I do not have.
Here is the programs I have installed:
Operating system: Windows XP
Microsoft .net framework 1.1
Microsoft .NET framwork 1.1 Hotfix(KB928366)

In VB 2005, I am calling a C++ DLL function that returns the address in memory and size in bytes of a jpeg image. How can I load that jpeg image directly from memory into a picture box in my VB form? I cannot afford to save it to disk first.

Im getting a problem with one of my programs I have made in visual basic.NET where it gives me a memory error when i debug the program in the IDE. the exact error is this: "Attempted to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt". My program basically has a few forms with text fields on that get their text values from an access database on the same hard drive. Im wondering if im doing something wrong because my program just seems to eat up memory whenever it does anything. For example I have one form that has a combobox on it and when you change the drop down list selection it retreives a few strings from the database and puts them into the relevant text boxes, if you keep changing the selection then the memory usage (in task manager) just keeps going up and up. occasionally I get the error mentioned above when debugging but in my built version of the program it throws an exception everytime the memory usage gets past 49K.
Also I noticed when debugging in the "immediate window" frame I get the following message often:A first chance exception of type 'System. Invalid OperationException' occurred in System.Data.dll...Do I need to somehow be "releasing" the memory that is used to gather data once it becomes redundant?

I have a BackgroundWorker object that I instantiated to perform a DB process on a background thread ansynchronously. I have event handlers for DoWork and RunWorkerCompleted. I can tell that the BackgroundWorker is disposing of itself because I added a message box into the Disposed event handler.Is it necessary to detach the event handlers to ensure that the memory is cleaned up and that there are not memory leaks?

I have a search page with a couple of pulldowns. Dependig on the values of them I show a grid matching the searched criteria, basically a table with links the user can navigate to. My problem comes when the user wants to navigate back. At the moment I have a "Back" button which simply redirects the user to the initial search page. I think it would be a good improvement to have the values of the pulldowns filled in with the values the user selected, this way when he presses the "Back" button he would not have to restart the whole search process again.

The follow code can be called about 6K times on the server it is run on then gets a out of memory error in the last catch statement. I don't see what is wrong with the code, it works well up until the out of memory..

I have two forms, Form1 and Form2. Form2 has a button to show OpenFileDialog. I call Form2 from Form1 by a button. My startUp Form is Form1. When i start debugging, i press my Form1's button to show my Form2, it shows, but when i click On Form2's Button to show OpenFileDialog it is giving me exception that

When i set my startup Form to Form2 and click Form2's Button to show OpenFileDialog then it shows!

We have a server application and a client application that communicates with each other using socket.
When the server application sends 2 messages about 16-31 ms apart, the 1st message is received by the client application with little delay (like 16-32 ms after it was sent). But the 2nd message is received by the client application a lot later (like 200 ms later) than when it was sent.
We already disabled Nagle algorithm (set NoDelay = True) in the socket in both the server and client application.

We are having problems with sending back to back emails on one of our web sites. The site is built with .net framework 2.0.We can send the first email without any problems on every try. But to send a second email you need to wait about 20-30 minutes.the problem.One thing we tried was changing the smtp email server. We tried a third party smtp server but the same problem persisted. So I think the problem is not with the smtp server but with our .net code.

Need to design a program that can encrypt and decrypt messages stored in simple text files using a private key stored in a separate file. Software should also be able to allow the users to enter simple messages that either displays the encrypted or decrypted message. The encryption method should use a simple substitution method. I have a next and back button to switch in between my tabs. There are 7 tabs on the form. My problem is that if I am on Tab 1(the first tab) and I keep clicking the back button that it keeps subtracting the the number (next_CurrentIndex) and I got to press the next button that many times in order for it to go to the next tab. Example: Lets say I'm on tab 1(first tab) and i click the back button 5 times. I then have to click the next button 6 times in order for it to proceed to the next tab which would be tab 2. This happens if im on tab 7 and continue to hit next also. [code]
