VS 2008 - Constants Not Declared And Named Argument Expected

Apr 5, 2011

I have some existing code to create an Excel spreadsheet and it works OK. I wanted to modify it to do some conditional formatting. But I get the messages xlCellValue, xlEqual, Formula are not declared and named argument expected. I have no references for Office or Excel.

Public myExcel As Object
myExcel = CreateObject("Excel.application")
myExcel.cells("C2:DG61").select()
myExcel.selection.formatconditions.delete()
myExcel.selection.formatconditions.add (Type:=xlCellValue,Operator:=xlEqual,Formula 1:="1")
myExcel.selection.formatconditions(1).interior.colourindex = 48

Migrating SqlServer (2008) Named Instances To Schemas?

Mar 11, 2011

I currently have a sofware with 80 customers.All share the same database structure, when data are differents.We got 5 database for each customer.Today, we have named instances, so the program is accessing to Bdd with something like :

Connect to 127.0.0.1/CUSTOMER1
select * from base1..table1

Now, we need to change, we got many instances.The idea is to have unique SQLSERVER instance, obviously i want to avoid changing the code (VB.NET).Just tried to play with schemas and users, seems to be an option, but since the schema is under the database, in can't make it works :

Connect to 127.0.0.1/GLOBAL_INSTANCE as specific user (customer1)
select * from base1..table1 -> error @ this point

When THIS works :

Connect to 127.0.0.1/GLOBAL_INSTANCE as specific user (customer1)
Use Base1
select * from base1..table1 / or select * from table1

I can easily script some user or schema creation, and change connection strings for all customers, but i can't really change All requests: huge number.

VS 2008 - Passing Class As Argument For Function

Mar 23, 2010

VB.NET is not letting me dance with both feet, or piss with both hands. I've got one foot and one arm tied behind my back at every turn. I want to use this statement in a function:
Return CType(Formatter.Deserialize(FS), DS)
Seems doable, right?

Function ReadFileStream(ByRef FS As FileStream, ByRef DS As Object)
Dim Formatter As New BinaryFormatter
FS.Position = 0
Return CType(Formatter.Deserialize(FS), DS)
End Function

Right? I mean, CType only accepts a class name as the second argument. I can't give it an instance of a class, or it croaks. Yet if I try to pass the class name as the argument to that function:
DataInfo = ReadFileStream(FileStream1, DataStruct)

VB.NET croaks on this, too, complaining that "'DataStruct' is a type and cannot be used as an expression.". It's used as an expression by CType just fine outside of the function. Does the VB.NET legislature provide a clause that allows for a 'Type' to be passed as an argument in a function? Writing all the supporting code ten million times to deserialize a file using CType ten million times in a large application will get very complicated and tricky very quickly. It should be handled by a routine so that any cases and adjustments that come up can be dealt with in one spot.

VS 2008 VB: Getting Value Of Variable Declared In Javascript?

Sep 26, 2010

I'm using Microsoft Visual Basic 2008 Express Edition. In the little program I'm creating, I added a WebBrowser and a button that will make the WebBrowser navigate to a designated website when clicked. So far, it's fine.

The problem is that I want to be able to get the value of a variable declared in the website's javascript. How do I do this?

The following is a part of the source code of the website.

<script language="javascript">
var contextPath = "/websmsn";
var noSessionPath = "/websmsn
....

I want to get the value of "activeMsgSessionId" and store the value in my own variable. The value of "activeMsgSessionId" changes every time the website is loaded.

VS 2008 Sending A Collection Of File Names As An Argument

Aug 5, 2009

I need to send a switches and a filename to a command line application.First I'll need to get a collection of files that can range from 0 to an infinite amount.Then I can start the process with the correct switches. Normally, within the command line application, I would specify the specific filename and send it as an argument to the application.However, I'm not sure how I would do this. The names of the files have to be preceeded by a specific switch. I can't remember the switch right now, but we'll call it [b]-f[/f].
So, I need to figure out how to send all or each of the file names as an argument.
