VS 2008 Database Not Refreshing After Structural Change?

1) I created and attached a database to my VB application.
2) I edited the Dataset within the Designer to add a new Insert query to one table. Everything worked great.
3) Externally I modified the structure of the database, changing one field from date to string. Went back to the application and everything was fine. It seemed to update and be aware of the change.
4) Again externally I added a new field to the table. I went back to VB and adjusted the query to include the new variable.
5) Now, VB keeps telling me the first variable I changed is a Date variable and not a string, and I can't seem to convince it otherwise.
My changes should have been refreshed and changed automatically by VB. I did a lot of similar changes and additions earlier, and they all worked. Is there any way of forcing a refresh, or rebuilding the definitions. I did try to go into the designer.vb file and manually change the "date" to "string" in the references to my field (I adjusted all the fields so they matched other string variables).
I don't want to have to rebuild the whole application from the ground up again. (this is the third time something like this has happened to me).

I have a label, let's call it LblA. I have a SqlDataSource, let's call it sds. Now, I have selected out and managed to get specific values using the select function. I want to set LblA's text to the value selected out of sds. I need this to occur every 5 (or as many as I specify really) seconds. I orignally used a timer object, however, for any of you who have used the timer object before, it likes to refresh the page, this makes it very hard to navigate off of the page; not only that, it's sloppy. Does anybody know a way to easilly update LblA's text from sds without refreshing the actual page.
I've read around and came to the conclusion that I need to use ajax, err... jQuery. However, I really don't know anything about the two except that they are both Javascript libraries? I need a simple way, you might even have to explain it to me like I'm an idiot.

I have created in Visual Basic .net a new DataGridView in my form. I have used the wizard to show some fields of a table in my access database.I would like to add a refresh button and force the datagrid to load the data again from the database, but I'm not sure how to do that. I am attempting to refresh my datagridview but it does not seem to work. I have a separate frm where people insert data, and then I have a button on the main frm where people can click refresh once the other frm is closed. I click refresh and yet the data does not update in the datagridview

I have added a column to a table in SQL Server Express - the table is already included in my VB Express Dataset. However on clicking "Refresh" on the table in Database Exlorer I do not see the new column in the Database Explorer listings. I have looked around a bit for a solution to this but cannot find anything under Google.

I have a large project that was originally written in VB6 using an ACCESS database. I want to rewrite it in vs2008 and change the database to SQL 2008. Someone on this site suggested that I look into NHibernate, which I am trying to do. Most of the samples are written in C#. My question is, does anyone know where I can find a sample of a project that is using NHibernate and VB.net? Or is there a better way to go?

I load up a datatable - bind it to a binding source and a binding navigator - and lots of textboxes on the screen bound to that as well.When I get a concurrency violation - another user has already changed my vendor, let's say - what is the best method to go about refreshing the datatable with current data from the DB?

I have a VB 2008 Forms application which does Powerpoint automation -- I am opening owerpoint in a minimized window from within my app and am trying to periodically put update messages in a textbox on my main form while the automation is running (it takes a few minutes to complete), but my form window does not want to show these messages until the powerpoint operations are finished. It seems as if I need to force a window refresh or something on my windows form, but I'm unclear how to do that. Below is some code that I'm using that illustrates what I'm trying to do. When I run it, "Step One / Step Two / Step Three" do not show up on my textbox until after the Powerpoint automations are over.

I am using a label inside my loop to get a count on the number of records processed by the loop. during testing of the program I noticed that if I load a smaller Table( 1000 records) my label stops refreshing after about 110 and my mouse turns to an hour glass. The program finishes and the label returns the correct count when complete If I load a larger table (10,000 records) it works all the way through???

I'm building an Expandable Groupbox control (source will be available in the codebank if I finish it), which is basically a groupbox with a [-] or [+] button to the left which allows the user to expand/contract it.
I've got it working pretty well, but now I want the user to be able to click the button in the designer to expand/contract the groupbox, rather than having to find the Expanded property in the property list every time. The ExpandableGroupbox control is just a UserControl with two panels (header and container), with an actual Button and a label for the text in the header panel. I know how to enable the user to click the button, even in the designer (this is done using WndMsg's and stuff, don't really understand that but it works!).
Now, there is one problem. When the button is clicked during design-time, the control is contracted (it's size changes), but the designer is not notified of this change. The selection rectangle remains as if the control size never changed, which is very confusing to the user. It only changes to the correct size after I select something else, and then select it again: At the moment, when the button is clicked it raises an event called Expand. I thought I could have my Designer class listen for that event, and refresh the selection service when it fires. I can get the control the designer is designing simply with the "Control" member.
Now here's the problem: Obviously I need to attach the Expand event using AddHandler, and I can see only one time to do that: in the constructor of the Designer.
So I tried it:

In webbrowser, I am visiting a website that lists 10 items per page, I select "20 items per page". The webpage dynamically updates to display a list of 20 items.However when I view the webpage code it still shows 10 items. If I refresh the webbrowser, the code will show 20 items.

I have a form that uses a tab control. On the main tab is a DataGridView containing Customer information. If I double-click on a row in that DGV, I go to another tab in which I can either make changes or delete the record. Whatever I do, whether it be delete it or modify it, after clicking on the appropriate command button, focus goes back to the main tab. What I wish to do is have the changes be reflected on that DGV. If the record is deleted then I want the DGV to not have that record present. This DGV is bound to a BindingSource. What control/dataset to I need to "Refresh" in order for this to happen?

I have a VB (2008) program that I wrote that will not refresh the info in a textbox. I've tried to refresh, update, hide/show the data but cannot get it to work. Here is a code snippet:[code]The concept of what I'm trying to do is quite simple. the user selects one or more sites to check, the program shells out and SSH's into the device(s), grabs the output an parses the data. It then turns different boxes to different colors based on the output. The maddenign thing is it works for the first time through and sometimes the second, but never any farther.At the end it paints everything just fine and if I insert a blank msgbox within the code it refreshes fine as well.

I wrote a piece of code that will create text boxes inside a flowlayout panel on a form using the number of records that are selected from the database as the loop counter. I can get the program to work the first time through but on the next attempt the text boxes that were displayed in the flowlayout panel are still there. I have tried using the clear property of the flowlayoutpanel but that did not work. I have also tried a new instance of the flp that did not work either.I have taken the code apart and all of the individual pieces work except for this part below. The way I tested this was to input a # and then run it again with another # and I want the # of boxes to change without closing the form.

I have a datagridview control on my form which i have populated it with values from a dataset. Now i am using a button to delete these values from the database which is working perfectly for me but the problem now is anytime i delete the old value still shows in the datagrid which shouldn't be so so i wrote the code to refresh the grid after deleting but is still not working for me as i want.
I am using this code:

But onething is the value i deleted doesn't show when the form reloads again. but at run time it still has the old value in it again.

I am trying to refresh a datagridview from a second form to display newly written data. I have read the posts on this topic and can't figure mine out. My first form opens and you input data into text fields, etc. and then you need to select items from one table to copy and write to a new table. The datgridview on the first form shows the new table, and I have a new form that pops up to select the line items to add. Everything works perfectly except when I close the selection form after selecting lines, I would like the datgridview on the first form to refresh to show that the lines have been selected and displayed in the datagrid.

I want to update the contents of a combobox in a VB program. So I change the underlying data structure (which is an ArrayList), and according to the documentation in [URL] there's a RefreshList method which should do this. But Visual Studio tells me that there's no such method, and when I type it in manually I get an error saying that RefreshList is not a member of System.Windows.Forms.ComboBox.
