I'm calling one program from another using the shell command. When I call the second program it loads a file and then displays the details on the screen. But when it runs nothing appears to happen and it is only when the file is loaded that anything is displayed. One of the first things that happens is a Resize, so I expect the dialog box to be displayed, I have added a refresh at the start but the dialog box is still not displayed untill the file is loaded. How can I make the program display the dialog box at the start to show something is happening?

I play EVE online, and I want to use my second monitor while having eve stay fullscreen on the primary.Currently, any time you click the second monitor, and EVE loses focus, EVE minimizes itself. Can I make a utility that forces the game to stay maximized at all times?
View 3 RepliesI have a form with a textbox on it. Validation occurs on the leave event. If validation fails, the focus is set into the textbox, making it impossible to click outside it unless there is a valid value entered. A valid value is anything from 15.00 to 99.99 inclusive, always with two decimal places. What code will return a boolean answer that checks if the input is valid?
View 3 RepliesI have several executable files that make up a full .NET application. One of the .net applications downloads a new version of the software, exits the main application, makes file changes directly inside of the c:program filesmy application area directly. I install this application using Installaware and it is code signed and verified with godaddy, so it gets around the antivirus programs. This has been running for a long time, and I never put too much thought into what security levels are allowed to directly access the files in this area, because it always seemed to worked perfectly in Win7, Vista and XP.
Now I have created a virtual machine, one inside Windows, and then one inside Parallels on a Mac. In these two virtual machines, the executable file that installs a new version of the software only works properly if I choose the two options on the compatibility tab in Windows, "Run this program as an administrator" and "Run this program in compatibility mode for Windows 7". Now I have found this article: [URL]. This even let me set up my registry settings in the set up of my program so that one specific exe will just run properly. I am concerned about just patching something this way.
With Visual Studio running in the virtual machines, the code executes perfectly. When I run the executable that I JUST COMPILED from Visual Studio, that executable will only run properly with the choices stated above, or more specifically, this registry setting:
"c:\program files\onespot\onespotinstall.exe"="WIN7RTM RUNASADMIN"
The exact same PC that has been mirrored onto these virtual machines works fine. It has been impossible to troubleshoot where the problem lies. The line of code that gets executed to EXIT the main program finds the process, and does a gentle shut down. That works fine. Even testing inside that application works fine. But I never can get a return from the Process.Start line. Narrowing down to a line of code is not working.
What this program does is it it moves the firewall tab on my Zonealarm from Medium to High thru a 2 timers and I can put how long for it to say on High and how long to stay on Medium

I have opened an existing project and made changes in the design mode. (For example, I added a new button.) But when I tested the program using Start Debugger, none of my changes showed up.

View 2 RepliesI'm wondering if there is any code that I could use in VB.net so it can determine the computer's startup mode (such as safe mode or safe mode with networking).

How to write a program to transfrom DDMM.SS (2218.3118 DDMM.SSSS) to Radian mode, which 2218.3118 is export from the GPS reciever.
dd.mm.ss -> dd.mm -> Rad

We have developed a 'deployment tool' (say program A) which need to modify system registry, etc info which requires admin rights. This program will be triggered by another program (say program B).
Question, when B call A, how can B initiate A with admin rights? is there any command like A.exe /runas admin or any other way to achieve this. Please note that both programs are developed using VB6.
I have written a simple VB.NET program that connects to a MS Access Database. This program runs in Windows 7 XP Mode, but does not run properly in straight Windows 7. Somehow, the Windows 7 does not connect properly or read the MS Access database data properly with the DataAdapter.Fill method. I have dual monitors, so I can run the identical program side by side (one in Windows 7 and the other in XP Mode) - one works and the other doesn't (it doesn't crash, it just get "nothing" from the database when accessing - acts like it's not connected). Has anyone else run into this, or similar, problem with VB.NET and MS Access connectivity?
View 14 RepliesI work for a shop that maintains a fairly new app. The app still has its fair share of bugs, with numerous tickets coming in daily. The error information we're given with those tickets is not as useful as it might be because the application was compiled in Release mode, which I read is smaller and faster (makes sense).
Are there any ramifications to deploying a .NET application to production that was compiled in Debug mode? I would expect it would be a bit slower, but I've read the difference is nominal. This would assure us that when we get errors on tickets we have line number associated with those errors and this, of course, makes debugging much easier. major red flags that would prevent you from doing this? I'm tasked with researching the possibility.
I use a program called Taskix that allows me to grab a button on a taskbar (for programs that are active) and drag it to reorder them. So the functionality exists somewhere, but most obviously through some sort of API.
What I want to do is allow my users to choose if they want a particular window in my program to sort itself to the beginning or end of the taskbar list. I know I want it because I would prefer this particular window to be in front of my opened windows whenever I make it visible.
where I might be able to access an API function that accomplishes this? Finding something like this on Google has proven to be fruitless; for me at least.
This is applicable to C# and VB.Net. I am writing a console application, but one aspect of it I want to make representable in a GUI (that being downloads running, with progress bars). is it possible to write a console mode application that can also have a form in it that can be called from code inside the console component?
View 3 RepliesI cant figure why the VB JIT Debugger control transfers the error to the program when I run in Debug mode and goes on in an infinited loop... I am using VB.NET 2008 and MS Access as the database backend. What I am trying to do here is that whenever I catch an exception (I have some C# code dll added to this main program and it should catch the unhandled exception and the addhandler routine will follow suit. So the moment any unhandled exception is caught MyHandler method is invoked and I need to take the backup of the database (Delete if the original file exists, copy the *.bak file as the original file name(was created during new file development) ,name it as *.mdb ) show a customized messagebox warning the user to abort (custom crash dialog instead of the standard default one)Somehow Myhandler goes in an infinite loop stop at line Globals.startBackup inside Private Sub MyHandler..Any idea on this weird AppDomain.Unhandled exception and how to prevent this from happening? View 1 RepliesI am using Visual studio express 2008. I was working on a VB project for a few hours. Then I did something,(I think I just double clicked the form ) and I cannot open it in design mode. By Design mode I mean so you can see the controls, and ad buttons and stuff. The form still runs, if I run it. I see the form in the Solution explorer. From solution explorer, if I show all Files , then open FrmMain.Designer.vb, I can see my code. If I go to the project menu item and insert New Windows Form the new form works like I expect it too, I can see it. I need to be able to see my form.
View 2 RepliesI have got a serious problem and I cant solve it. Images on my form are not displayed during debugging. When I build the application, there is no problem. But in debug mode no images are displayed. What can I do about it?
View 1 RepliesI use the data binding mode to fill data into a list box, that is just fill all of the data in the table. if I want to group one of the table column and only display it in the listbox, how can I get this done? I know how to add a getData query to my table adapter, but how can I bind that new datatable to the list box at runtime?? cuz I need to put the data binding mode information in before I run the application and in the binding mode is no way to choose that getData query.

The resolution is not very good, but its ok.
However I need to get it to print in landscape mode, but I cant find the property for it. i searched the forums but I could only find threads for VB 6.
I need to add an option to a program of mine that enables "High Contrast" mode in windows XP.
