Populating DataGridView Combobox Column?

Mar 26, 2009

I have an unbound DataGridView control that displays a few columns of account data. The first column is a combobox that I fill with data from a dataset of names filtered by what's in a customer field on the form. When you click on a combo on one of the populated rows, the available names come up in the combo. But if the first click in the datagridview is on a new row's combo, various (incorrect) names appear. Only after you click on one of the populated row's comboboxes, does the correct data appear in the new row's combobox control.

I don't really understand why this is happening. I have been using the EditingControlShowing event to populate and add the combo to the new row, but it doesn't seem to be working very well. I hope someone out there has some ideas about the correct way to do this.

C# - Dynamically Populating Column Headers In A Gridview?

Mar 6, 2012

I have a vb.net website with a gridview that currently has exam questions displaying vertically in each row like this:

Name question answer
-----------------------
Joe question1 answer1
Joe question2 answer2

[code]....

But I would like to change it, so that each question is a header, like this:

Name question1 question2 question3
----------------------------------
Joe answer1 answer2 answer3
Jill answer1 answer2 answer3

This makes it more readable since each user is only listed once.I would like to stick with a gridview instead of rewriting all my code.I am actually binding my data to the gridview via some other programmers class. I am using LINQ like this:

Return (From entry In report.FetchAllEntries()
Select questionID = entry.Question.QuestionID,
userID = entry.Session.User.ID,

Populating DataGridView ComboBox Column During Runtime?

Nov 16, 2009

I've got a window with multiple datagridviews. Each with data from a separate dataTable. All of which are part of the same DataSet. There are a couple of places where one DataTable has a field joined with the lookup dataTable from the dataset. For example a lookup table for LugSizes has a field called LugSize that is also it's primary key. Another table called Device Terminations has a field called LugSize to which the user can only select those values from the LugSize lookup table. I thought it would be as simple as using the Items.Add method for the combobox column whenever a new lookup table row was added to its own datagridview. Unfortunately, when I try to initially clear the items list, the data error event is triggered for every row.

Here's a sample of my code if it helps:

HTML

Private Sub FillLugSizeComboBox()
Try
If colDTLugSize.Items.Count > 0 Then colDTLugSize.Items.Clear()

[Code]....

Xml - Populating Treeview With XSD Elements And Attributes In VB 2008?

Jul 26, 2009

I'm trying to create a treeview in a VB 2008 project that shows all the elements and attributes of an XML Schema.The MSDN documentation for XML schemas seems to imply that by loading the schema into an XMLSchemaSet and compiling it I should get access to all the elements and attributes with their values but this doesn't seem to work in practice.

Using a for loop such as:For Each elem As XmlSchemaElement In compiledSchema.Elements.Values

I can use elem.Name to get the element name (and attribute name with a similar nested loop) for a simple type but this doesn't work for a complex type.Whenever (and however) I try to get values for complex types I hit a brick wall.

VS 2008 Manually Populating And Finely Tweaking A DataGridView

Sep 23, 2009

I've been playing with a DGV. Let's say for my question here, I want a grid that is 10x10. I would like the font in each cell to be Arial 10 regular. Only one character will be in each cell (I'll use "M"). I would LIKE the cells to be 17 pixels by 17 pixels. But, if I manually force the column width to be 17, I get about half of my M and three dots "M...". I'm thinking this is a padding thing but as far as I can tell, everything is set to 0. See code and then more comments below:

Private Sub Form1_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load
With DataGridView1

[Code]....

Question 1: How can I reclaim some of what seems to be lost space around the cell contents so I don't have to make them bigger than they need to be? I'd like them to be 17x17 with the single character centered within.

Question 2: Do I have to manually set the height and width of each row and column? I'm thinking the RowTemplate setting but can't seem to get it to work.

FYI: This is a new project with a DGV dragged onto the form. All changes have been made programatically.

VS 2008 Populating Textbox With Decimal From An Access Database?

Jul 7, 2010

I have a field in an access database with decimals in it. I am using ADO to read in the data and are trying to assign it to a textbox in a form. This works fine when its a whole number. But it doesnt seem to work when its a decimal for some reason.

I have declared the variable i have assigned the access field to as a double, but when i set up a test textbox which i point the variable at and times it by 1000, it doesnt work. Works perfectly when i change the access field entry to a whole number though.

This sounds like im not using the right syntax or something.

VS 2008 Populating Cbobox On Form Load For A Child Form?

May 14, 2009

i am having an issue populating two combo boxes on form load. The program will connect to an access database and pull data as instructed. Then as it pulls each record it puts it into the combo box.

This was working.. atleast i think it was. i dont recall it ever not working, however i wasn't looking for it.

My problem is that if when i load the MDI parent form and have it skip the selection form and the login form and load the next form in the sequence, it loads everything perfectly. However if the select form is loaded first, then the login form and then the form i need loaded, it will not populate. The only difference between the two different loads is that the login form calls a function that loads the form as a new project.form

I did this so that I can have multiple forms open at a time. I am assuming my problem is that I need to get the child forms handle then populating controls using that handle? but i think if I had to do that then I would beable to populate the comboboxes on the first form load using the login method of opening the form.

Here's my code.

vb.net
Private Sub frmLine1t5_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load
Me.Text = "Line " & LineNumber & " Test Form"

VS 2008 : Use Column Name For DataGridView?

Right now when I need to refer to a cell to update the text I do it this way:

Is there a way to use the column name for column #1 rather than the number? This way if I decide to add columns later in an update and it's not at the end of the current columns, I do not have to re-number all my code. I tried searching but must not be looking for the right keywords.
