VS 2008 How To Receive Pop3 Email
Apr 28, 2009
I have an application that needs to check a dedicated mailbox for mail, and then read and process those emails. The email account is an internet-based account, and I use a pop3 server for incoming mail.
how do I do this inside my VB program?

I am looking for a vb.net code for receiving e-mails without using any 3rd party libraries. I want to check Unread messages, Inbox and Sent messages. A Working sample is needed.
What is the default port for SMTP , is it port 25 (is it the same for all SMTP mail servers?). Which is more flexible in my case POP3 or IMAP ?
Edit: Someone please give me a sample working code for receiving mail using lumisoft (pop) in vb.net

We have a vendor that sends CSV files as email attachments. These CSV files contain statuses that are imported into our application. I'm trying to automate the process end-to-end, but it currently depends on someone opening an email, saving the attachment to a server share, so the application can use the file.Since I cannot convince the vendor to change their process, such as offering an FTP location or a Web Service, I'm stuck with trying to automate the existing process.
programmatically open an email from a POP3 account and extract an attachment? The preferred solution would reside on a Windows 2003 server, be written VB.NET and secure. The application can reside on the same server as the POP3 server, for example, we could setup the free POP3 server that comes with Windows Server and pull against the mail file stored on the file system.

I'm trying to make a email client but my biggest problem is finding a component that is (preferably) free. I need one that works with IMAP and POP3. Also would be nice if it could handle sending emails (Via SMTP). It would also be great if it worked with gmail.

how to setup POP3 access that DOES NOT cost money! I have a program that needs to receive email.I have looked ALL over the internet for examples and have come up with NOTHING! Maybe it's about time we all pull together and finally put a solution out here for how to do it. I know it's not THAT complicated because I am a novice as is my roommate and we had an email program about 4 years ago and it wasn't that complicated then, so I don't imagine it is, however, I did not save that email program that we built so I can not refer to the coding again!

I have posted about receiving email before and this is a follow up of my progress. I have only one form and it consists of 2 buttons, one for downloading messages from the server, the other, to disconnect the connection. I also have one listview and one textbox to display the message. I took the codes from a few open source programming website and compiled them. My program works as such that upon clicking the 'Download Messages' button, a message box will pop up and the user/admin will be asked to enter the POP3 account name. My doubts are I am not sure what POP3 account name to put in.

We receive an HTML document in an email which has some special pricing and products. I want to be able to parse the data, perform some lookup operations on it, assign some pricing markups, save it to a data source for future referance and do it with VB.net and a web browser. I'd really like to use MSHTML.HTMLDocument, but all the documentation I have is based on HTTP URL's, but since these HTML pages will be opened from an eMail or saved to a fileshare, they won't have the HTTP. I've also tried to read it as a text file and parse with RegEx, but it's not very effecient and to be honest, RegEx is still a fog to me.
Would anyone be kind enough to suggest a way to do this? Is MSHTML able to do it and if so; how do I set up a reference to a non-HTTP URL?

the application I'm building is ALMOST done. The ONLY final feature I NEED to add is the ability to receive email. Now I'm using VB 2010. How would I go about doing this? Would I use 2 listboxes and a form with labels on it to display the message. I haven't any code yet. How in the world do I do this??

I want to use IO.ports.serialport to receive ASCII data from an instrument (A Luxmeter for those interested). So far, i've been unable to read any single byte from the instrument using the IO.ports.serialport.A terminal window shows the datastream just fine, and I've used MScommlib to read the data without problems. I just had other problems with the latter, so I thought I'd give this IO.ports.serialport a try.The code runs fine, no errors. It just doesn't receive anything.Bytestoread stays 0 forever.I distilled the code to it's bare essence. What am I missing? Is it something obvious, or did I completely misunderstand the whole concept? (Which is not unlikely..)I did check the obvious, of course: settings, baudrate, cable is connected, instrument is sending, etc.[code]

If you're not aware of this command, it allows you to remotely rename a PC on a domain. The purpose of the application is to speed up renaming a few thousand PCs on a network.
Anyway, the app works fine, however when the netdom.exe command runs, the command prompt window pops up and obviously disappears when the command has processed. Is there anyway to capture the result from the command and either output this to a log, or stay on screen to be visible?
I am running the netdom command with the following
t.StartInfo.FileName = "C:windowssystem32
etdom.exe"
t.StartInfo.Arguments = " renamecomputer " & oldName.Text & " /newname:" &

I have found a simple UDP project at [URL] which is a project written in VB2003. I have imported it into VB2008 Express edition. I have no problems with the send part of the project. I'm able to send messages to internal (eg. 127.000.000.001) and external (in my case the other device has 192.168.0.100) addresses. Now for the receive part... I'm able to receive messagess sent form the same computer (127.000.000.001) but none of the packets are being received by the aplication if sent from an external source.

Im working on this one application/chatter. What it does, theres a server, and lots of clients. Client sends data to server, server process's it, and the client receives the data (unless its a command, like /process username). Heres my problem. My client has a login feature, like yahoo. Client sends username/password to server. Server goes through list of usernames. Then sends it to client, wether it matches. But my client doesn't receive the data. Can anybody fix this, with my client code provided? Let me know if you need server code, and the extra script files/vb files. [Code]
