I've found the ability to make meaningful Intellisense-enabled comments on my functions and sub routines absolutely priceless.
I'm wondering if I can do the same when an Enum is defined. I'd like for each Enum highlighted in the drop list to have some information associated with it. Can that be done?
I am trying to get VB.NET XML Comments to work with IntelliSense, and maybe it doesn't work the way I think it does.
[code]...
This should, when you are typing in a function, display the "Get or sets the Patient Code" then below that, it should display a list of bulleted items with "Validation:" as the header? Maybe I am doing it wrong, but it doesn't seem to be working correctly.
I'm trying to put newlines in my XML Comments in VB.Net. I've read two other posts about C#, XML multiline comments in C# - what am I doing wrong? Adding line breaks to comments for Intellisense But the suggested <para> or <br/> tags don't work. This,
get Intellisense in Visual Studio 2005 to display the meaning of individual enum values for a VB.NET project. This already happens for enums that are a part of the .NET library?
I am using Visual Studio 2010 Prof. In C# I can create my own Enumerator and use it like this:MyEnum value = Now, Intellisense will suggest a value of MyEnum. In VB, when I write:Dim value As MyEnum = I get a huge list of every types. When starting to write my enumerator value (could be a word like "sunny") it filters out some types but I would like to have it like in C#. Anyway I will use the MyEnum type and no "String nor Objecte nor IntPtr...".
I've noticed that in C# XML comments and code comments can have different colors by changing the settings in Tools > Options > Environment > Fonts and Colors > Display Items:
- Comment: controls code comments XML comment: controls XML comments
This works well in C# <summary>This XML comment is green</summary>
I'm trying to declare an enumeration and one of the names I'd like to use for an item is not usable apparently. Where I am declaring 'STEP = 3', I get this error message in visual studio: "Statement cannot appear within an Enum body. End of statement expected." Is it possible to use STEP as an item name somehow? [Code]
I've hit a small issue on a project of mine. I have a comboboxcolumn on a datagridview and the items list has the items ("enabled" "disabled") as the values (stored at design time). When my sql table gets the value "Enabled" or "ENABLED" stored somehow as it's value then I throw a dataerror.
I am trying to avoid this dataerror, I was told to modify the value during the cellformatting event however with my experience the dataerror fires before the formatting. What is the workaround to this behavior? As a textboxcell type the error is not present, it's all because of the case sensitivity of the "items" list on my comboboxcell
Which is better, using a nullable enum or adding the value None=0 to your enum list?Using nullables requires more code, but I kind of like it since it forces me to think about the possibility. Otherwise I'm liable to forget about the None enum and fail to account for it being a special case.
I am primarily a C# developer; however, I am currently working on a project for a client who preferred VB.net. I have managed to switch over fairly well, with one frustrating exception. When editing a C# file in Visual Studio pressing enter will select an item out of the IntelliSense window and keep the cursor at the end of the selected statement.
However, when editing a VB file, pressing enter selects the item out the IntelliSense popup AND moves the cursor to the next line. I realize that this is a small thing, but it drives me crazy, because it makes it really hard to switch between C# and VB projects.
I have searched for everything I can think of in Google and found nothing. Does anyone know of a way to change the IntelliSense selection behavior?
I don't know if it's possible, but i want to change some of the defaults intellisenses. For example when i write try and press enter, the IDE puts the catch ex as exception and the end try, but i want that the finally word it's added too.
This might seem like an odd question, but is there a way to make it so that any form that is created based on another, would have some comments in the code behind of the new form?
For example, i create a form called frmONE, and i put in code like this:
Overridable Sub frmONE_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load 'Make sure you call these functions, in this order:
I've wondered this for a while, when I hover over an object's properties when the program is paused (from a breakpoint) I can see the values of each property but when it comes to a collection it wont list the objects in the collection unless I specify an index, how do I specify an index?Basically I have a form with a ToolStrip that has 12 items in it, I would like to see what the 12th item is but can't because it's an indexed property.
When in VS 2008 if a developer hits the ''' it generates the XML comment tags for you, but this only works when the project setting for "Generate XML documentation file" is checked. Is there a way to tell VS to generate the XML Comment tags, regardless of the project setting? I think it is possible that someone may want comments but not create a XML documentation file. In this case I am exceeding the current Team Settings, yet other developers don't want me to change this project setting. This forces me to flip this back before checking in the project. I have the same problem with other Project settings like "code Analysis". This is only a problem for VB.NET projects.
I have a TableAdapter I created in the DataSet designer. It contains joined tables and I set it up to automatically generate Insert/Update/Delete commands. I understand that I have to write my own UpdateCommand. I did so, in the DataSet Designer, for this particular TableAdapter.
The issue is that the Update Method is not showing up via IntelliSense, when I attempt to write code like this:
vb.net Dim x as Integer = Me.DPTableAdapter.Update(), IntelliSense does not show the Update Method with the parameters I set up.I created the same exact method with another TableAdapter, in the same manner, and it worked just fine.
I also call EndEdit on the BindingSource, I just did not put it in this post.
If I override a member (e.g AutoSize in the Button Class), then the intellisense no longer appears in the editor, forcing me to re-decorate the property. Is there an option somewhere that I need to check? ETA: Here's a code sample:
[Code]...
The intellisense explaining the AutoSize property doesn't appear.
We are using the .NET PropertGrid to edit the Usersettings of our application. If we use Strings or integers than it works perfectly. Now we need a propery, we call them "Vendor", that store a GUID of the Vendor from a database. But the user didn?t see the GUID in the PG. he can choose beetwen the venders Names in a combobox. This combobox must be loaded from the database I have start to try to solve that with following
I'm almost sure that I've seen this somewhere, but I can't find it anymore. Or maybe I'm imagining it, which would'nt be strange either.
When creating a sub or function and adding parameters used when calling it.
-Is it possible to list the parameters that I can enter when using it somewhere in my code?
E.g.
Public Sub MessageMain(ByVal Message As String, ByVal MessageType As String (List of possible values for MessageType)) Same for example as when you have boolean values in a sub/function. As soon as you use that somewhere in your code intellisense will present you with True/False to select.
I'd like the same for parameters in subs or functions I create and calling them from somewhere in my code. Saves me the trouble of remembering which options are available for those parameters.
I have an Enum file, as shown in first code block. Though it's first time I use an enum file, so maybe it's not correct to use it like this.. My purpose is just to be able to reference a global parameter from anywhere, so I can just type DataInterval.M1, and it will be treated as an integer... or.. will it not ? urther I have a property in my DataSeries class, of type DataInterval. And in this class I also have a bunch of methods Get/Set etc. to do different work on the dataseries (Inherits List(Of BarData)). roblem: The interval property keeps changing unexpectedly every time the GetNextCloseTime function is called.
''' <summary> ''' "Time Frame" of data series ''' </summary>
Application: Arrays are to be used for this. When button Add Student is clicked it should add all the information for a student and when Show Student button is clicked it should prompt the user for student's last name and student's information in a message box. Class ranking list box has an enum function to it and has to be stored be show along side other answers.NOTE: FindItemIndex if from the last application I did, i am suppose to use it in this one,so you can modify it the way you want.
I have an enum set with custom attributes. need to retrieve the attribute value in single statement ...
Public Enum Messages ''' <summary> ''' <value>(MessageText : Do you want to save ?)</value> ''' </summary> <StringValue("Do you want to save ?")> Save [Code] .....
Now I needed to retrieve the enum value like something below. Messages.Save.GetType().GetCustomAttributes...... something is possible in single statement itself?
I'm trying to pass data from the main form to a business class form for calculation.I have 3 types of cars and I can't get the code right to pass that to the business form. It seems correct to me, but obviously, it's not. This is the code for the calculate button, I can't figure out why its telling me that CarSize is not a member of the business form when I have it in the Enum statement at the top. I'm going by what the book says and this appears right according to it.
Dim CarTypeInteger As Integer 'determine the car size from radio buttons If LuxuryRadioButton.Checked Then
[code]....
In the book it says to specify the class name when declaring the enum on the business form. So to me it looks like it should be -RentalRate.CarSize.Luxury The error I have is 'CarSize' is not a member of the 'ChristiansCarRentals.RentalRate'.
