There are already multiple threads about this, but i don't have the knowledge about the different SQL databases/methods to make heads or tales from it.I am using an OleDbDataCommand, an OleDbDataReader and the following code
Dim Query2 As OleDb.OleDbCommand
Dim RetVal2 As OleDb.OleDbDataReader
Query2 = New OleDb.OleDbCommand("Select [section], [title], [id] From " & DtSections & " Where [volume] = " & volu & " And [chapter] = " & chapter & "", AccessConn)
[code]....
value)In order to evaluate an indexed property, the property must be qualified and the arguments must be explicitly supplied by the user. Type) Object?

In a nutshell...I have developed a site in ASP.Net and VB.Net which allows a user to create an order and submit it to a SQL Server backend database.
When the order is placed...an xml file is also produced, showing the items that have been ordered...which is then loaded in to a program to update stock quantities.
The code I have is as follows:
Public Sub butSubmitOrder_Click(sender As Object, e As EventArgs) Handles butSubmitOrder.Click
Dim sqlConn As New SqlConnection
[Code].....

I am not sure why this code doesn't work. I have follow according to the table field data and it I am still unable to get the SQL Datareader to work. I have checked the tables and all datafields, everything is correct. But I still am unable to read data from the database.
Dim connectionString = ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings("CleanOneConnectionString").ConnectionString
Dim myConn As New SqlConnection(connectionString)
myConn.Open()
Dim cmd = "Select * from [Member] where Email = @Email"
Dim myCmd As New SqlCommand(cmd, myConn)

I am gettting the following 2 errors:
Invalid attempt to call Read when reader is closed and sometimes Invalid attempt to call MetaData when reader is closed when attempting to read from a sqldatareader object. What I want is to list groups in listview. The last column is "Total Numbers".[code]...
It works ok for the first row but after that the first error generates. I don't want to include the COUNT function in the main sql cos then i would be required to group the rest fields (there are 9 of them totally). I tried MARS but it don't work at all in my connection which is like

"Invalid attempt to call Read when reader is closed." is returned when trying to use a SqlDataReader in a Thread or BackgroundWorker (Do While z.rdr.Read() in the bold sections - I know this code does the same thing twice....). I have looked at a few forum posts but I did not find a method to keep the SqlDataReader open when passing the arguments. How do I thread the SqlDataReader loop?

When I run my application the following code prompts an error. Ideally, I want to populate the TxtOracleNo with a value read from another table on my form based on certain conditions i.e., prac_no, prac_eid and pay_method is the same in both tables then populate the Oracle No on TxtOracleNo text box.
The error given is
"Invalid attempt to read when no data is present"
The function is shown below
Private Sub Oracleview()
'Open the database.
'Delete any existing record
Dim cmd As New SqlCommand
Dim conn As SqlConnection = GetDbConnection()
[Code] .....
I checked that data in the database and it is available in both tables. Probably, the problem is where I call the function. Presently, I call it on loadform.

I have an error that is during the query to a database ExecuteReader 'phase' of my program, i am assigning an .OleDbDataReader to a variable RetVal and then, i am giving this RetVal = Query.ExecuteReader, and then in the while the query is being read loop(While RetVal.Read) i am getting an error in runtime that is "Invalid attempt to call Read when reader is closed." I know this means i have to open the reader, but i don't know how to do this, as i have been using this process for a few weeks and haven't had this error pop up. (and i have managed to use the while loop)If you're not living on the edge, you're taking up too much room

why is the datareader closed? I had to change this from a stored procedure to dynamic because our IT guy was encountering trouble changing the sp permissions.. so there's definitely a time factor
Dim cmd3 As New SqlCommand
cmd3.Connection = connect
Dim dr2 As SqlDataReader

I'm using WMI code and VB 2008 to see NIC status. So far the queries are working, but the methods aren't. For example, I'm trying to set a network card to use DHCP, I get invalid function with this code:
Dim classInstance As New ManagementObject("rootCIMV2", "Win32_NetworkAdapterConfiguration.Index='7'", Nothing)
Dim outParams As ManagementBaseObject = classInstance.InvokeMethod("EnableDHCP", Nothing, Nothing)

I am having a problem with something seemingly basic and typical. However, I have tried and searched for many hours, I could not find a solution. I am using Visual Basic in Visual Studio 2008. I tried to bind a textbox to a numeric field in an MS Access table. When I enter an number to the textbox, sometimes it would be converted to another number when I tab out of the textbox. For example, if I type '123456.78', it would be automatically changed to '123456.781', '123456789' would be changed to '123456792'. The wrong numbers are stored in the database too. For smaller number, it seems to be OK. For example, '1234.56' is O

I have a textbox pulling an 'entryDate' field from my table using databinding. The field in the database is set to a 'Short Date', however when I bind that field to a text box and run the app it appends "12:00 AM" to the short date from the Db.
How do I get my databound textbox to simply display the short date which exists in the table?

I have a table of reports and queries that users of my application can run. I now have a need to allow them to execute a Function and I'd like to treat the function like I have my reports and queries by listing it in a table with a 'friendly user title' attached to it and then when the code executes, it would reference the name of the function that I have in another field of that same record. I can't seem to figure out how I can get VB to understand and treat the value in a field as the name of a function and execute it.
Table
Friendly Name Object Name Object Type
Report of Costs rptCosts Report
List of Costs qryCosts Query
List Active Emails ActiveEmails Function
In my current code I check to see what type of object it is that they want to execute and use either DoCmd.OpenReportor DoCmd.OpenQuery. Now I want to execute a Public Function that I have created that will open its own form to display the resulting requested information in.

I have the following code. I am loading the xml file, it's fine. When get into my loop and try to read the line I get unhadled exception and the following error
'Part ID="1"/SalesPrices/OrderPrice/GrosscostsAPiece' has an invalid token.
I have discovered that the reader is not liking the Part ID="1" part. How to overcome this problem considering the xml will always have that element as it is. Need to extract the value in the GrosscostsAPiece element.
document.Load(xmlFile)
for Each element As XmlElement In document.SelectNodes("document/body/Parts")
arr(1) = element.SelectSingleNode("Part ID="""1"""/SalesPrices/OrderPrice/GrosscostsAPiece").InnerText

My routine to check for updates is run as a separate process. Exiting the application is required to update, so a dialog asks the user, when an update is found, if they want to exit now. f they do, the code (from the update thread) calls Application.Exit().However, if the FormClosed event of any form that needs to be closed needs to access its controls, an invalid cross-thread operation is detected (which sounds pretty logical).

So I have a database in Microsoft Access (its path is c:database.mdb). There are two tables. Table1 and Table2. I would like to read each row of Table1 to an array, and write a row to Table2.
I have looked all over google, but I couldn't find anything that worked.

I have a question regarding how can i use a method name configurable to be called.
E.g
1.I have a xml file with three elements looking like this:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="iso-8859-1"?>
<root>
<element attribute1="a" attribute2="b" attribute3="Send" />
</root>
[Code]....
So after i add the values to the list, for example : element.ThirdElement() will have the value from attribute3 ("Send"). Also element.secondElement() will retain the value from attribute2 and so on.

I am trying to make an oledb connection to an Access database.
1. I added a component class.It said drag from the toolbox to add components.
2. I dragged over the Oledbconnection and OledbdataAdapter
3. I clicked on new connection string for the oldeb Connection and try to connect to the SHX.mdb datababase in the debug/ bin folder I don't have a username or password for the database and do not want to set one up.( is this possible in .net?)
4.As soon as I try to test the connection, I get the "invalid authorization specification" message. I can't get past this and do not really understand why I am getting this message.I have vb 2005 standard edition, not express edition.The exact same thing happens when I try to set up the data adapter to the shx.mdb database.
I am on XP2 and not logged in with a password or username. Could this be the issue or is there something else I am overlooking.Also, since I am coming from vb6 and ADO is there anyway to just write the code without having to use datasets, adapters and oledb connections to bound controls?
